BACHELOR PAD WTF Moment of the Week: Wicked Games

August 31, 2010 by

There have been times during BACHELOR PAD where it’s been really fun to laugh at the contestants. I mean, let’s face it — they often say stupid things, trust the wrong people, and yet act indignant when they are betrayed.

But this week? I felt legitimately bad for them.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand why the producers thought this was a good idea. Tearing people down on national TV? A gold mine. Not only do you get the immediate reactions, but the fallout could very well be long-lasting if manipulated right.

On paper, having Bachelor Pad superlatives seems like a idea.  But some of these categories went a bit too far.

Worst boob job? Most likely to be a bridesmaid and never a bride? Who is the dumbest?

Horrible. Horrible titles for anyone to have. I don’t care if they are the crazy reality show contestants.

Okay, some of those people might actually be well suited for their voted monikers, but to have other people validate it? That’s cruel.

After being voted the most shallow, Elizabeth insisted she wasn’t — only to admit she wasn’t exactly sure what it meant. Nicole joined others in voting herself publicly as the dumbest person in the house, but she lost out to Gwen who took home the crown when the secret ballots were cast. Gwen was devastated.

We all have fears and insecurities. Having them reinforced is bad enough, but on national TV –  torture. Seeing those women cry? Not fun television for me.

Am I overreacting? I know it’s a reality show so I shouldn’t be expecting positivity and light, but I felt like this went a little too far.

Let’s chat…

I think they could have still made that game enjoyable to watch with different questions. Preying on people’s insecurities is never enjoyable TV to me.

I was actually surprised Kovacs “threw” the game like that. He had to have known everyone was gonna put her!

More cruelty…more ratings…and we all support that when we watch those shows. As a mother of kids who have grown up in the ME generation that feels entitled to everything for giving nothing..and for whom being UGLY, MEAN< HURTFUL AND VINDICTIVE…seems perfectly normal "hey everyone does it" I worry for the future generations if show like these…which are just about every reality show…continute to use back stabbing, selfish self promotion, manipulation and cruelty, to sell a show.

    It's pretty disgusting.
