Is Leonard Nimoy Returning to FRINGE?! Producers Spill

October 28, 2010 by

Oh Christopher Lloyd, you tease.

Lloyd — an upcoming guest star on FRINGE — told the audience at a STAR TREK convention last weekend, that Leonard Nimoy would be appearing alongside him in the 10th episode of FRINGE’s current season.

Um, say what now?

When we last saw Nimoy’s William Bell, he had sacrificed himself in order for Walter, Peter and Fauxlivia to cross back over to our universe. Not to mention that Nimoy announced earlier this year that he is now retired from acting.

So will Nimoy really be reprising his role as Bell?

Sadly, you can file this under “too good to be true.”

According to FRINGE show runners/executive producers J.H. Wyman and Jeff Pinkner, “as much fun as that would be, it is sadly untrue.”

Bummer.

Can you imagine how epic it would have been to have Lloyd, Nimoy and John Noble sharing a scene? Oh well.

Are you okay with letting William Bell rest in peace?

    I think the only way he could show up again is in an Obi-Wan Kenobi kind of way, since he has joined the energy of the universes like the force haha, like in Brown Betty that he was like an animation.

    What happened there? Was Lloyd dreaming? Was he given bad information by Bad Robot (and hung out to dry by them?)–or is this part of some November sweeps publicity stunt? One would think he is far to professional to just make that up.

    @Christopher – My guess is that the quote is taken WAY out of context. I’m not necessarily blaming GMMR…but somewhere along the line…someone got mixed up on exactly what was said and why. My guess is it was meant as a joke by CL…or something else was said to explain away the comment that we’re not getting access to.

    @Christopher and Jess: I have NO clue why CL said what he did. You guys legitimately know as much as I do with that. However, the EPs were explicitly asked if Leonard Nimoy would be in the 10th episode and that was how they replied. So unless they flat out lied (which wouldn’t make sense. They could have just as easily said “Wait and see” or “no comment.”), Lloyd might have been mixed up or he was misquoted at the STAR TREK convention (I wasn’t there, which is why I was waiting for official confirmation to write about it).

    If Lloyd wasn’t misquoted/mixed up, my guess is that his character meets a young William Bell and he just assumed it would be Leonard Nimoy. OR it could be possible that LN is coming to visit the set, but he won’t be filming (though I believe he recently had surgery, so it might not be in his best interest to fly right now). I can’t imagine CL would just throw a lie out there for no reason.

    I WISH this was true. Seeing Chris Lloyd and Leonard Nimoy together on FRINGE would have been amazing. But sadly it appears it isn’t 🙁

    @yis: I love that idea!
