Save Life Unexpected and Help Some Kids In Need - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

Save Life Unexpected and Help Some Kids In Need

November 3, 2010 by

News has broke that The CW will not pick up LIFE UNEXPECTED for the back half of its second season and viewers are distraught, expressing their disappointment via online blogs, fan forums and twitter too.

We at Give Me My Remote are on that same page, sad that LUX — one of our favorite new shows this year — is facing an early dismissal from the schedule. So we’ve decided to do something about it.

In honor of LIFE UNEXPECTED’s premise — a foster kid in Portland, Oregon who finally finds a loving home when she reconnects with her biological parents — Give Me My Remote is asking fans to make a “Save LUX” donation to Portland’s Boys & Girls Aid, a reputable organization that has been helping Oregon’s children for 125 years, finding homes for those in need through adoption, shelters and foster care.

Between now and the end of the calendar year, you can give to Boys & Girls Aid as a sign of support for LIFE UNEXPECTED. 100% of your donations will go to Boys & Girls Aid and we’ll announce the grand total of your charitable contributions on December 31st, 2010.

Every cent counts, so please give, even if you can only afford to send a few dollars.

In addition to your donation to Portland’s Boys & Girls Aid, feel free to send light bulbs — as LUX means “light” — to The CW offices here in L.A.

You’ll find all the information you need below, so read up, write a check, mail a lightbulb and comment below, telling us why you want LIFE UNEXPECTED to stay on the air. Consider the comments section your very own unofficial petition.

Checks for Portland’s Boys & Girls Aid — made out to “Boys & Girls Aid” — can be sent to
Save LIFE UNEXPECTED
c/o GIVE ME MY REMOTE
P.O. Box 691813
Los Angeles, CA 90069

Lightbulbs in support of LUX can be sent to
Ms. Dawn Ostroff
President of Entertainment
The CW Television Network

Burbank, CA 91505

Let’s keep LIFE UNEXPECTED on the air — or at least lobby for a few more episodes so the series gets tied up right! — and help a few kids in need while we’re at it…

UPDATE 11/8: Give Me My Remote is proud to announce that we’ve teamed with Los Angeles non-profit, IBG Inc, for their upcoming Conversation Series event featuring LIFE UNEXPECTED’s Liz Tigelaar, Shiri Appleby and Kristoffer Polaha. Tickets are on sale now and all proceeds will benefit Boys & Girls Aid as well. Seats are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot as soon as possible.

I agree 100% with keeping Life Unexpected on the air, and I also think this petition is very important. The show helps people realize that they are not alone, and that even though you’re different you can still fit in. At least to me it does. I recently just got into the show. And from catching up on the first season, I don’t really understand why the CW cannot see what we see, and how great the show is. So, keep Life Unexpected on air! They change lives and give us something to look forward to!

  2. crystal on November 3rd, 2010 7:42 pm

They have to renew Life Unexpected, it’s so unfair of the Cw to renew the other shows that lets face it( have no meaning to them but to bore us with trash, sex and drinking) Lux means something and since it has aired made my friends and I closer. we get together every Tuesday night with snacks and watch the last weeks episode before the new one and discuss what we liked and etc….. I don’t know what we will do without this show. Cw please renew it give our show the credit it fully deserves. I will be sending in my donation but these actors have done so much to save their show as well as “us” the fans…..

  3. Kate on November 3rd, 2010 7:44 pm

I love the characters on Life Unexpected and I will be so sad to see them go, please we need to keep this show on the air!! It makes my Tuesday better!!!!

  4. tw111 on November 3rd, 2010 8:27 pm

OMG! My son is a “BIg Brother” to a child through this organization in Portland!!!
I hate to see LU get the axe as well, so it will be easy to send them a donation…..

  5. allie c. on November 3rd, 2010 8:54 pm

i have to agree with the other people RENEW LIFE UNEXPECTED !!!!!!!!!!KEEP IT ON THE AIR !! , i mean how can CW cancel this show can’t they see that this show means something to US out of all the other shows !! this show i can really say helped me value my life and my parents, if they cancel this show!!!!! i can tell you there going to at least lose (one viewer which is me) never again will i turn on my tv and switch it to CW and watch all the shows they give on there, WE need to keep LUX alive !!! this show BRINGS SOMETHING MEANINGFUL TO LOOK FORWARD TO ON EVERY TUESDAY !!! SO KEEP THE SHOW ON THE AIR, WE LOVE THIS SHOW AND LUX !! people keep petitioning!!!

  6. Nicole on November 3rd, 2010 9:07 pm

I’ve been watching this show ever since the first season aired and right away I was hooked. I pretty much live in this show and when I heard there wasn’t going to be a second season I literally almost had a heart attack! This show has more talent and realism than almost any of the other show’s on the CW and I think you can relate and get the most from this show. When I found out they were going to continue with a second season i’ve never been so happy. Why on earth would the CW take that away from people when it makes them feel good and gets them through tough days, weeks or whatever. I would appreciate it soooo very much if the second season could finnish airing!!!

  7. Cory on November 3rd, 2010 10:12 pm

This is perfect, because I happen to have leftover lightbulbs right now. I mean, yeah, I would use ’em eventually, but right now they’re just sitting there collecting dust. Since they’re, like, a dime a dozen, I can send these bulbs off to Dawn now and get more when I need ’em.

    I wonder where she’s gonna put ’em all… 😉

  8. philana on November 3rd, 2010 10:13 pm

we really need to keep life unexpected on the air. it is one of the best on the air right now it shows what can really happen to a foster child when she meets her parents again and how everyone has to deal with new situations. this show has helped me change my views on life. if you are having a really bad day you can watch an episode n realize lux was n in a worse position the you were and there are a million and one true life examples of her and tasha.

  9. Mockingbird on November 4th, 2010 1:02 am

This is such a good idea- we can show our support for a great show and help kids who need it. One of the reasons I love LUX is that the characters feel so much more real than the ones on other shows. They’re struggling, make mistakes, and are trying to figure out who they are and where they fit in the world.

  10. Dawid on November 4th, 2010 6:45 am

I also love the show mostly because characters are so real. All of them make silly mistakes, take chances or have regrets about not taking one. Let’s hope we can save Life Unexpected. It’s lovely and unique show and every week I’m waiting for a new episode impatiently!

Also I will definitely send a letter to the President of Entertainment and hopefully I will be able to send a donation also..

  11. Hannah on November 4th, 2010 6:05 pm

I love in the Uk and are only a few episodes into the first season but the show is awesome me and my friend are in school every monday morning discussing it. We sing aling to the theme tune, its just great, I can’t believe the CW are already canceling it when it hasn’t had the proper time to start they should at least renew it for the second half of the season, it is unfair that story lines have to be quickned just so we can see how it turns out, the show shouldn’t be rushed and with loyal watchers I hope we can get through to the CW that we arn’t backing down easily.

  12. @francovalenz on November 4th, 2010 6:27 pm

No me gustaría que Life Unexpected quedara fuera del aire, es el único show que veo en la TV, desde el primer capítulo me conmovió y lo he seguido capítulo por capítulo. However, how can i make the donation from Mexico?

  13. Rachel on November 4th, 2010 6:40 pm

That’s a great and generous idea!
I agree with all of you. The difference between Life Unexpected and all the other shows is that the other shows are only made for entertainement whereas LUX changes lives and makes you see things differently. We can learn so much with that show!
I’m crushed that it’s been practically confirmed that it’s not coming back but at least it’s still airing and we have new episodes to look forward to. We can keep it alive forever anyway.

  14. Andreanne on November 4th, 2010 10:59 pm

Life Unexpected, is a show that isn’t just about teenage drama, but about a complete family, that tries to go through difficulties as a family. I think it shouldn’t be cut from the air, because I think (and I don’t think I speak only for myself) Life Unexpected is one of the rare show, that carries good values such as family.

  15. Gabriele on November 5th, 2010 3:26 am

A little question about the light bulbs. Can we already start to send them right? Thanks and great idea 😉

  16. Keri on November 5th, 2010 9:11 am

What a great idea! I am devestated that LUX is possibly ending. It’s my favorite show on the air right now. It is so insightful, unique, touching, and charming. I am completely invested in the lives of these characters. They are so flawed, relatable, and loveable. LUX is different from the shallow sleeze and scandal on other CW shows. It has been a breath of fresh air. Liz and cast deserve a chance to tell these stories!!!! PLEASE RECONSIDER CW!!! I am not going to let this show go without a fight. SAVE LIFE UNEXPECTED!!!!!!!!

  17. Cristal on November 5th, 2010 12:28 pm

It’s a shame that the CW is possibly letting this show go. Just when their reputation and one of its ONLY original series with heart and integrity continuously gets rave reviews for it’s quality, they want to pull it. The truth is, and it’s not secret, the CW is a dying network and it’s so far from what the WB had – family, real people dealing with real issues, and a heart. Once OTH goes off with their series finale, which I feel isn’t too far off, those viewers are going to look around for something similar to watch and when they look around the CW all they will see is fantasy and an obsession with material things…those people will ditch the CW as well as the LUX viewers and it will leave the CW scratching their heads and wondering where they went wrong. THIS is what they are doing wrong.

This is the first show in a really long time that I’ve seen with heart, integrity, and a cast full of people that actually cares about their fans and takes the time out of the busy day to interact with us. It’s not about the money, it’s not about the fame or the glamorous things — it’s about a family, onscreen and off, and keeping that alive in a world that is obsessed with the superficial and and the latest scandal. These are real people dealing with real problems. THESE are the shows that need to stay on air and if the CW gave it more than just ONE year, more than just 13 EPISODES each season to cram all that genius and story in Liz’s head then I am sure they would not regret it in the long run. But the day that OTH goes off air, and if they cancel this show and keep all the sci-fi/scandal/fantasy shows on there, and with the Smallville series finale approaching…all those loyal viewers the CW thinks they have are all going to ditch the network for one that treats their shows better and actually listens to what the viewers want. Funny that their target demographic doesn’t want to see scandal, they tuned into LUX for the family qualities but when the CW stepped in to make their changes to the show people were actually turned off.

  18. katrine on November 5th, 2010 1:00 pm

Life Unexpected is one of the best shows out there! I d0nt kn0w why CW
made a very very bad decisi0n. I really hate it when good shows end while the sucky ones still airs. Its the only show there that has a great story and tackles family issues in n0n boring way. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.. The show touched n0t just the hearts of american viewers..so as the ones from asia, like me– SAVE LUX!!!

  19. John on November 9th, 2010 6:53 pm

This show is great. I look forward to watching how the show plays out, to cut it short simply isn’t fair to loyal viewers.

    Thanks,

    JB

  20. Lauren on November 11th, 2010 7:12 pm

Life Unexpected is truly one of the best & most original shows on television! With all the crime and law shows on tv, Life Unexpected is wonderfully refreshing! It is heartfelt, meaningful, funny, and very well-written! Please do not cancel this show! The cast and it’s loyal fans are extremely devoted to this amazing show, so please give it the chance it deserves!!
    Thanks!

  21. Christina on November 11th, 2010 11:30 pm

Please do not cancel this show. Life Unexpected is one of the most original shows on network television. The story lines are extremely well written. Each episode is heartwarming, funny and beautifully acted. Liz and the cast are devoted to not only making this the best show, but also to the fans. They are extremely open and giving with their viewers.
LUX deserves a fair chance. It deserves to have another season.

    Thank You.

  22. magellan on November 17th, 2010 7:22 am

before you decide to cut this show, be fair with yourselfs…

We are bored with detectives and lawyers stories…

This show is like a part of our lifes….

    Please think and consider carefully!!!

  23. Marissa on November 17th, 2010 2:40 pm

What a wonderful idea!!! I absolutely love this show and hope that the CW will change its mind. If not, maybe another network would be smart enough to pick it up. I think it is unfair to judge a show in the Tuesday 9pm timeslot when it is up against the biggest show on TV (Dancing with the Stars). Let’s hope the ratings go up after Dancing is over next week!

  24. lovedine on November 23rd, 2010 2:37 am

i don’t understand why the CW is canceling life unexpected. i am like so frustrated right now because every time i get attached to a show it gets canceled. than i find myself watching the old episodes over and over again longing for more. life unexpected is a really good show. i love love Cate and Baze. i am definitely going to do the whole light bulb thing and the donation. i love this show so much and i am like in awe with shiri Appleby. she is so incredible. some-days i find my self not watching anything on TV unless shes in it. shes such a talented, beautiful, amazing actress.

  25. loryl on November 24th, 2010 4:27 am

This show is Amazing, and i cant wait each week for the next episode to come, out and it is going to be canceled already?! Why is it the best shows always get canceled, do people not know what good is anymore?! I wish i was rich because i would pay them myself to keep the show going it is so good. We all need to work together and get as many people to watch this show as possible, introduce it to your friends, have it on more than one tv at a time, whatever you can think of, promote it anyway you can if you think this show is as good as I do and do not want to see it canceled!! Bring up the ratings!!

  26. natalie harrison on November 24th, 2010 9:05 am

DO NOT CANCEL LIFE UNEXPECTED to many shows get canceled way to early. the CW are worried about not having enough ratings, how about thinking of the people that do constantly watch the show. why should the people who love the show get punished and be dissapointed because use are not satisfied with how the ratings are.

  27. Devin Hurley on November 24th, 2010 11:35 am

OOOOONNOOOOOOOO!!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. NO! This is the only TV show I watch! I <3 this Freakin show!! NO NO NO NO! YOU CANT CANCEL IT!

  28. Amber on December 1st, 2010 4:17 am

Hate to see a good show like this go ,so we can watch some sappy tv show about more vampires like that story isnt overatted . Maybe the cw could make a show like bring it on , oh wait they did it’s called hellcats. The one original show not stolen from a hit movie is life unexpected and their gonna cancel it.

  29. Rebecca on December 1st, 2010 4:48 am

Please DON’T cancel life unexpected, I would seriously be very sad. I LOVE this show, Im from Australia and my housemate and I look forward to life unexpected every week (unfortunately it does not air in Australia…which if it did it would go so well). I’ll admit my life revolves around life unexpected, my housemate and I talk about it all day whilst at work and then come home and watch it. I recommend it to my friends all the time! If it is cancelled…I have one request PLEASE take another season to wrap it up, so many TV shows get left with loose ends and its SO FRUSTRATING…hell if CW let me, I would write the rest of the seasons as long as I got closure. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT CANCEL IT!!!! AIR IT IN AUSTRALIA!!!

  30. maddie faunce on December 1st, 2010 5:02 pm

Please keep this show. its is my favorite show on the cw and honestly they keep One tree hill going after it lost any normalcy and its completely stupid. everyone dies or gets shot or leaves its stupid, life unexpected at least has meaning people can relate to and the charachters we have all grown to love.! keep it! please.

  31. Krystin on December 3rd, 2010 10:37 pm

I hate that it’s getting cancelled. It’s such a good show and the story is getting so good right now. I’m very upset that they keep some really dumb shows but get rid of this amazing one.

  32. Kristin on December 7th, 2010 11:29 pm

I really hate to see the CW ax this show while keeping on others like 90210 and the Vampire Diaries. I know the blood sucking thing is in right now, but it’s all over the place. LU is BETTER and different than what is out there. I have been a #1 fan to One Tree Hill since the beginning and will stay by it until the end, but……LU touches me so much more.

  33. Nessa on December 8th, 2010 12:03 am

PLEASE PLEASE DONT CANCEL THIS SHOW !!!!
    this show is amazing.
it touches alot of people’s lives.

SOMEBODY (another network) please pick up this show !

  34. Asia on December 8th, 2010 12:17 am

You cannot cancel this show! Its an awesome break from all the stupid reality shows and while many people cannot relate to the family, it is still touching. The actors are all doing an amazing job and the story line is unlike any other show. Why get rid of it and replace it with something that is EXPECTED?

  35. amanda loriaux on December 8th, 2010 12:33 am

i will stop watching the cw if they don’t continue this Show , i never miss an episode and i don’t leave my chair or talk to anyone when it is on.wHEN I THINK OF THE CW channel i think family and this show SAYS IT ALL WHAT HAPPENS in real life what people truly go through ,vampire dairies is FAR FROM LIFE I DON’T WATCH IT FOR MANY REASONS TOO MUCH SEXUAL CONTENT FOR MY KIDS TO See.life unexpected and heartland is ALL I Watch on the cw .i will help in anyway possible to keep this show going.i guess when its no longer on air maybe everyone needs to stop watching the cw channel and see how ratings are then.i can’t stand a show IS PUT ON AIR THAT is really good and helps ALOT OF PEOPLE and When IT gets So good you can’t peel yourself AWAY BAM THEY TAKE IT OFF AIR.How Freaking retarded. So tell me how to help in saving THE Show???

  38. loryl on December 8th, 2010 3:19 am

KEEP THE SHOW PLEASEEEEEE! Its the only show i wait for each week, who likes toesdays!? I DO CUZ LIFE UNEXPECTED COME ON! The show lingers inside me after every episode like a drug making me just crave moree and moree! This show is all i have to look forward to, and without it, yeah i got nothing….. Its an amazing show and it gets better and better each episode!! The episode that was on tonight, could be a good one to watch in a place to help people coupe with abuse, seeing as most children that have been abused hold it inside them like they are the ones at fault n think people will look at the differently if they say anything to anyone. This episode teaches children that your family and people you are closest too will NOT treat you any different or SEE you any different for it. This show is amazing, you should NOT let it go, especially when it just keeps getting better and better.

  39. Nikki on December 8th, 2010 4:46 am

PLEASE PLEASE keep this show on the air! This is by far my favourite show!

  40. Rina on December 8th, 2010 5:34 am

You know I am so sick of the CW cancelling good shows to keep pointless, out-dated shows on the air– most of their other show have already ran their course. First it was The Game now Life Unexpected. I wish Life Unexpected never went with CW and went with another network. I love this show I pretty much cry during every episode it really makes me thankful for the life I have, and had made me think about fostering a child. Anyways, I hope the show gets picked up by another network and we can keep watching the show. We need to find out what the future holds for Kate and Ryan — Lux and her life, and Baze.

  41. Johanna Allyn on December 8th, 2010 4:50 pm

I am so upset about this cancellation. It is the first time I have ever watched the CW channel. I don’t know what good shows need to do to stay on the air. I have been watching television for more than fifty years. I should rephrase that I have been watching GOOD TV programming for a long time. I do not waste my time on reality, game, soap operas, etc. I have to cul my premium channels to find things to watch. If nothing good on networks or premium, I just let my news channel run. I like the lawyer and CSI shows. But there are so many copycats, I’ve become bored with those. They have over saturated the market. As an individual, who fostered children that we adopted and a staff member in a Social Work Agency, I am so touched to read these comments. I was enjoying the show so much that I really had not thought about the good that it could propel. I know there are happy endings in some foster care. I also know that there are many, many kids trapped in foster care. If they are not returned or adopted in their early years or have any questionable factors, I’m afraid the aged out end up like Lux and Tasha. I am retired now. I can see the show is reaching different audiences in all generations. I wonder if that is a plus or a problem. Maybe the spread is too broad to market. WHAT I DO NOT WONDER IS LIFE UNEXPECTED AND LIZ, BAZE, KATE, RYAN AND LUX ARE PEOPLE I WANT TO STAY IN MY LIFE. I will send a donation to confirm that statement. Thank you for this forum and your support.

  42. Sammi Flynn on December 8th, 2010 11:58 pm

Please don’t cancel this show – it’s one of just a few that is worth watching. I really look forward to it every week. I’m much older than most of the fans, but I like good acting and this show has it.

  45. Laura on December 11th, 2010 1:47 am

I am extremely upset about the show being canceled. I have been a die hard fan of it since the series premier and if I do miss an airing I jump right online to watch it AS SOON AS IT’S AVAILABLE!! I love it, this and One Tree Hill are THE ONLY CW SHOWS I WILL WATCH! I was banking on this one to last since this may be the last season of OTH …I love Life Unexpected, great story line and its real life stuff. I swore if this show goes off I would NEVER watch the cw again even when OTH is on …i will download them before I watch it on THE CW…they keep stupid shows on but get rid of great shows! I am seriously livid!

  46. lanz on December 14th, 2010 2:19 pm

    keep it short and simple

JUST KEEP THE SHOW DONT CANCEL IT.

  47. Claudia Poe on December 19th, 2010 1:57 am

I became hooked on this show from day one. The peoples’ lives are complicated with real life problems that are not usually seen on TV. We are so wrapped up in being politically correct that we ignore the ramifications of the choices that we have made and the consequences that affect others How often do we get watered down versions of shows such as this? This show is not a fairy tale of rich kids who get everything they want and are so board that they experiment with drugs, sex and manipulating others lives. Personally, I know very few people who are so privileged. However, I do know people who have made mistakes and would like the chance to make them right only to learn that they have to negotiate through the fallout from their decision. Our shows no longer teach morality, but it would be nice if we can at least bring some understanding of the many issues that Life Unexpected brings to light: the Social Work system, reintegrating and re-establishing family ties, keeping a marriage alive and healthy work, the importance of honesty and trust, the need to be loved and the lengths that we will go through to get it, and the capacity to forgive and go on when there is the smallest amount of hope. Taking this show of the air to replace with the superficiality of who’s the next model is a travesty. Do we not place too much emphasis on beauty already. Every person is of worth and deserves to learn that.

  48. amanda on December 24th, 2010 4:09 am

I’m really really mad they’re canceling Life Unexpected! This was one of my favorite shows and it’s on the list if shows that I MUST watch every week. I get cranky if I don’t watch my shows. It’s not fair that they are canceling it 🙁

  49. Aj on December 27th, 2010 10:38 pm

  50. Abby on December 29th, 2010 8:21 am

I am sorry to hear this show is being cancelled. The characters and storylines are very compelling & it gives this mother a chance to sit and view with her 15 year old son. We are heartbroken the show is being cancelled. Please give it another chance.

  52. loves_life_unexpected on January 3rd, 2011 6:51 pm

Please keep Life Unexpected on the air!!! Its an amazing show!!!!

  53. Jade on January 18th, 2011 7:33 am

Too many times I’ve seen great shows ended because the network doesn’t want it. This is the one thing I look forward to Tuesday nights after I get off work at midnight. Sure I have to DVR it, but I love it! I’m a 26yr old mom of two who loves the characters, storyline and extremely talented group of actors and actresses. KEEP LUX ALIVE!!!!

  54. Juliet on January 19th, 2011 3:38 pm

I don’t get why they have to take Life Unexpected off the air. It is such a good show that shows us what life throws at us. It’s better than all of that other crap you guys show us. I mean seriously Vampire Diaries has to be the most pointless show ever! And all the other shows show us sex, and a bunch of other useless nonsense. I LOVE the idea of sending in cash and light bulbs for a good reason! But I also think that to show you guys how good and awesome this show is and how much we want it on air, bye giving money and shipping I am so willing to give money to charity. So please put life unexpected back on air, and I don’t care how many comment I will have to put on it has made my family come closer and exspress our problems. It also shows us what real reality is like. I am sorry but Nikita and and Vampire diaries are impossible to understand and are very dumb and unreasonable!

  55. MissPrina on January 27th, 2011 2:04 pm

OMG!! I really like this show and loved it even more when the trial happened & the whole Baze’s dad affair thing. It was gettin goooooood!!! I hated how they ended it with no explanation (or a SEASON THREE!!!!) of how everybody swapped and got to where they’re at now. Wtf happened when Kate talked to Julie after seeing her pregnant??? There’s so much potential in this at least for a final season 3!!! PLEASE!!!!

How could they cancel the show. It’s like the best show ever. Producers if you are reading this please do know that the show has fans even in Macedonia!!!
I don’t know what made you decide to end the show but it’s a huge mistake. You’ll make a lot of people happy if you decide to keep the show running. Life unexpected was so beautiful and it felt so real. I fell in love with the characters so much and i simply cannot accept the fact that it is canceled.

How could you cancel this TV show.
Seriously you really should keep this tv show on air. It would make happy a lot of people. A lot of people were dissapointed when they learned about that. I was, and sad.
You must continue, please for all the fans of this Tv show.. End this way, it’s too easy and THIS suck. Not the TV show.
Please, do it, for the fans, for the future fans.

Stillreally upset about this show being off the air. Tv is not the same and is quite boring. I wish another network would pick up this series and rerun it, I think the fan base is large enough and really hate “lux” on the secret circle

I hate to see this AMAZING tv show go!
I loved cate and Ryan! And I LOVE the Romeo and juliette love story with Lux and Eric, although she was 16 and he was 23. But I miss the show:(
