BONES: Michaela Conlin, TJ Thyne and Tamara Taylor Talk a Bumpy Pregnancy and Baby Hodgela

November 4, 2010 by

BONES is back!

After a baseball-induced hiatus, Booth and Brennan return in an all new episode this week. And while we’re excited for tonight’s hour — featuring former SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE star Stephen “tWitch” Boss as a street performer in a special guest spot — what really has us stoked is the Hodgins-Angela pregnancy this season.

So far, we haven’t seen too much on-screen emphasis placed on Baby Hodgela, especially since it’s supposed to be a secret (poor Hodgins doesn’t realize everyone already knows and they’re just keeping quiet), but there is more to come. And as Michaela Conlin (Angela) and TJ Thyne (Hodgins) tell it, it’s not going to be the smoothest of roads.

It almost makes sense though, no? With all the angst going on in the Brennan-Booth-Hannah triangle, of course we’re in for more drama with Angela’s pregnancy.

While the cast won’t spill on how dramatic things may get, Conlin, Thyne and their co-star Tamara Taylor (Cam) did talk about what kind of parents Hodgins and Angela will be. Watch our chat in the videos below…

I love Bones and have really enjoyed the lasr 5 season. The character lines and story development has been beautifully written and the tension has been well balanced with the casework to make it feel real and not contrived. Going into season 6 there has been a shift and things have changed. Now with the thought of pregnancy drama along with the supposed not there, but really there love triangle Bones is dangerously close to become more of a soap opera then the well written dark dramedy it had become. Unfortunately, for me, it used to be a show I could barely wait a whole week to see and I would watch the episode several times to absorb it all. Now I dread it all week, wondering what new plot device, unrealistic dramic twist, or damage to the characters I love is going to happen. I DVR it but I can barely sit through the first airing, there is no re-watching the episode. I miss the fast pace cases, the great support cast and their involvement, and I miss the flow and chemistry without the soap opera angst. So I will be watching in hopes that it gets better because all the time and emotion invested in this show has made it one of my all time favorites way to escape real life.

I’m hoping that Angela’s line about not telling in the premiere episode was meant to be one of those things that we’ll look back on and laugh about (since she broke her own rule!) rather than foreshadowing something bad. I can’t wait for Hodgins to find out Angela already told everyone about the baby after specifically telling him not to say anything. That should be pretty funny.

I could definitely see them going the traditional route with the baby’s name, too. They seem like the type who would give their kid a kooky name, but everyone forgets that Angela supposedly had a really crazy given name that she changed once she hit 18, so I could see her going super traditional with the name just because of that.

I hope they give this story a bit more screentime soon. Angela & Hodgins are my favorite characters after Brennan!

Things are never easy for Jack and Angela??? 😮
You know, with pie, if the filling is rotten, you don’t really notice the crust because the whole thing just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. “Jack & Angela” are part of a well made crust. However, the filling of the pie called, “Bones” is Booth & Brennan and it’s clearly gone bad – because it definitely tastes AWFUL.

Sorry although this is a cool interview, I find that I don’t actually care that much about them. I *love* Hodgins and I’m ‘meh’ on Angela since they destroyed her character, but asking me to pin all my hopes and interest on them as the B couple (while the SO storyline is all in my face) is asking a bit much, seeing as I found their entire reunion one of the most ill-thought out and ridiculous in the history of television.

Oh, we’re stuck in a jail cell? I still love you. Let’s get married. Yep, that was the beautifully written storyline we were hoping for. And then we miss out on the honeymoon as well. No build up, no investment = don’t care.

I’m afraid the lack of comments on this article speaks for itself.

Michaela said ‘he’, so are they having a boy??? i know it’s waaay too soon for them to know (a family friend is prego and they said it’s not till like 2nd-3rd trimester that they find out)

and i bet that’s how the season will end….her having the baby!!

  6. amanda on November 5th, 2010 5:11 pm

Jerrytart, i so agree with EVERYTHING YOU SAID!!

  7. Courtney on November 5th, 2010 5:15 pm

As the mom of a stillborn and with friends who’ve lost their children.. I just hope n pray that it doesn’t end “really bad.” Please make sure n give us a heads up that it’s not going to be anything like the baby dying b/c I don’t want to watch. I love the show and I love the hodgins and angela.. i just don’t wanna see anything really bad, lol. I’m SOOO glad the show is back though. I wish all the cast members and characters of Bones, the best of luck!

Well, I have to admit I was disappointed in last night’s episode. SHeesh, just when you think the writers found a way to keep the show interesting (Angela preggers) (Booth new love interest) they go and mess it up. So, last time the show was on the intern was the dude that was working on cars, last night its Vaziri. Then the whole Hannah getting shot and her and Bones bonding at the end, sheesh I wanted to puke. Where is the gritty, action packed episodes that made me watch this show every week? Please go back to a storyline with punch. Take away some of the angst, and insert some good ‘olebutt kicking action like the old days.

  9. E. Johnson on November 5th, 2010 5:34 pm

    For Courtney,
I am truly sorry for your loss. I agree and hope the writers will make the baby plot line a happy one.

  10. Eva Bleecker on November 5th, 2010 5:38 pm

I love this show but can/t stand the character of Angela, nor the nasel talking actress that plays this overage sexually liberated , bi-sex, dizz that could not remember her first husbands name because she was to blitzzed . This is too good a show to muck it up with this kind on low class crap. Now she has gone from a” what?” to a high tech genious? I would be happy to see as little as possible of her.

  11. Vicki Sandoval on November 5th, 2010 6:08 pm

@ Eva Bleecker! wow… Angela is the heart, the anchor, of the show. She is the nurturer, the artist, the lover of all things. And the COOLEST THING EVER is having Billy Gibbons from ZZTop starring as her father! Perhaps you don’t have enough imagination to include Angela in the great balance of the show.

  12. Dani on November 5th, 2010 6:13 pm

Ok, so i’m going to get ALOT of hate mail for this, but I LIKE Hannah! I think she gives a personal edge to the show that none of the other characters have been successful in doing. Hodgens and Angela are personal, but they are personal AT WORK, not at home. In fact we don’t even know what they are doing other then the whole baby thing. I like the idea of Booth and Bones getting together, just like all fans that have watched the show since the beginning, but Bones pushed that away, maybe just for the present, but Booth shouldn’t have to sit on his hands for another 3 or 4 seasons- until right before they cancel the show- to have someone to love him back. I like that Hannah speaks Bones language, (the end of the show) and that she respects the relationship Booth and Bones have without being jealous. However, I don’t think she thinks as highly of Booth as Booth seems to think of her, her comment about him proposing tells me that she’s not looking for the long term with him, at least not at the present. I think I don’t mind the idea of Hannah sticking around longer.

  13. Cyra on November 5th, 2010 7:21 pm

I have watched Bones since the very first episode. I really enjoyed the Jersey Shore episode and was really looking forward to the one that aired on Nov. 4. However, most of that show left me wondering what was going on. The most exciting thing in the whole show was Hannah’s story. This is supposed to be a show about an FBI agent and a forensic anthropologist, not about the agent and his love life. Please get back to the original premise of the show A.S.A.P.

  14. Mary on November 5th, 2010 8:32 pm

I think the stories are stupid and that Bones and Booth belong together. I also think that bones hair cut is nasty with a capital N.

  15. Kathy on November 5th, 2010 8:55 pm

I agree with a lot of you…the show used to be one I couldn’t wait a full week to see, I didn’t even mind watching re-runs over and over again. But this season seems different, more soap opera-ish…and, I wish they’d bring Zack Addy back!!!!!
Oh, and Bones herself…she doesn’t seem to be the same overly intelligent woman I came to love, admire, and respect!

  16. Trista on November 5th, 2010 9:24 pm

I have to agree that the show just isn’t as good this season. I’m another of those “couldn’t wait for it every week” and now I find myself just waiting for it to be over so I can watch Fringe.

  17. Meg on November 5th, 2010 11:03 pm

I don’t entirely agree. While I think that the show’s focus has shifted, I don’t believe that’s an entirely bad thing. The crew at the Jeffersonian in a family… Without all of it’s individual parts getting their dues its not gonna work. In season four, Cam had the whole Michelle angle, season three Sweets was brought in, etc. I think after getting viewer’s hopes up witht he last two episodes of the fourth season, they felt a little pressure to produce someone’s offspring.
I really like Hannah too. I didn’t think I would, considering how she was brought on to the show, but I believe her and Brennan could be good friends and as a character, Brennan needs more than Angela.

  18. Pete on November 5th, 2010 11:03 pm

I still can’t wait for Thursday night, the show just makes me happy, I do miss when someone touches bones and she woops their ass, it looks like she has gained a little weight, and I thought she was a vegetarian in real life. Where is her dad/brother I wonder? What happened to Zach, I wonder why he left the show? Sweets was hilarious with the Shakespeare thang, that was clever. I’m a rambler-sorry

  19. suzanne warner on November 5th, 2010 11:05 pm

i love this show also, but havent been enjoying it as much as before, It has become very soap opera in the story lines. Bring back the sexual chemistry between Bones and Booth. the mystery is what its all about plus the solving of the crimes in the way only Bones and Booth can do.

  20. Cris on November 6th, 2010 10:56 am

why I must wait so much to see Bones in Spain! I love Bones and always see it twice a week in “La Sexta” (tv channel where we can see you in Spain). you have to give then an interview to spanish could listen you in English but could understand the interview. you could tell “La Sexta” program called “Sé lo que hicisteis”(“We know what you did” in English)

  21. Crystal on November 6th, 2010 12:07 pm

Like Kathy…I would love to see Zach back on the show….or at least a mention of him now and then. What…did the whole crew just suddenly abandon hIm? If you love someone that much…which they all supposedly did.. you don’t just suddenly forget about them. And why are they still changing assistants every week when the first show of the season Bones told the dude fixing cars (I forget all their names….except Zach!!) that since she was back that his scholarship would once again be available and she obviously considered him the best of the bunch. And why does Bones seem to have dumbed dowm from the last few seasons? She had been making great strides in trying to become “human”….now she’s even more robotic in her responses than when the show first started. Where’s the fluidity? Sorry…just had to rant!! I still love the show and the characters, although they have all lost some of their initial quirkiness. My final words……Bring Zach Back!! 🙂

  22. kathie on November 6th, 2010 2:22 pm

i too was disappointed in this week’s episode. when hannah demanded a gift from temperance and she gave her the sun glasses; i thought what a spoiled brat. she is taking advantage of the uniqueness that is bones. too bad booth was not there to hear that exchange, he could see just how shallow his gal pal is…

and as far as the pregnancy is concerned, hope they have a son and call him zach. after all,he was (is) hodge’s best friend…

  23. Judith Friedman on November 6th, 2010 3:24 pm

I love BONES but could do without a baby for Angela and Hodgins. Not necessary and a baby doesn’t belong on a show about criminals, death and skeletons.

  24. Diana G on November 6th, 2010 4:37 pm

Love the show, but have lost a little interest this season. I don’t like the hannah character at all I agree she comes across as a spoiled brat. I have noticed Brennan and Booth aren’t shown as much together as before. Aren’t they supose to be partners. I don’t like the switching of lab personnel get a person and stick with it. I too liked Zach. When I heard hannah got shot last week I was hoping she would leave the show No such luck. Get back with the basics that really makes the show. To many changes this season! I’m going to continue watching and hoping for changes for the better.

  25. Carla on November 6th, 2010 8:57 pm

Hey all, “Zack” is in the looney bin and doesn’t want to come out, remember he told Sweets he really didnt kill the man who Gormongon’s apprentice wanted him to kill…but he struck a deal so he doesn’t go to prison! So get over it! Angela and Hodgens belong together, why not have a little baby? It’s all part of real life, sex, marriage, sex, baby! I don’t like the Hannah character because she is going to be real sad when Booth has to choose between the two of them one day and he chooses Brennan because he still loves her; even though she can’t love him! Someone needs to teach Brennan how to really love a man, maybe Sweets?

  26. Joe Zachary on November 6th, 2010 11:44 pm

Bring Zack Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love angela and hodgins and all the rest but we need ZACK BACK!

  27. hayu on November 8th, 2010 10:27 pm

    i love Bones
but somehow i feel something missing in this 6th season
i can’t enjoy it much like the previous season
maybe it’s because Booth relation with Hannah
coz after watch Bones and Booth so long
and hope that they will be together in this season
suddenly here comes Hannah from now here…

  28. WantstheREALBonesTeamBack on November 19th, 2010 11:23 am

Dani, I’m with you on some of this. Specifically this:”I don’t think she thinks as highly of Booth as Booth seems to think of her, her comment about him proposing tells me that she’s not looking for the long term with him, at least not at the present.”

Hannah comes across as both greedy and shallow. Bones saves her LIFE, and she *demands a gift* on top of that. I note there were No gifts at all in her hospital room, even Seely didn’t bring her flowers…odd, that, no?

Perhaps though we are being prepped to hate Hannah. Since the majority WANT B&B to be as in love and together as they were in Booth’s coma dream – and the “I’m pregnant so no more wine’ moment is one of the most poignant in the show’s history, I personally would like them to be friends with benefits. That has hilarity written all over it.

As for poor Zack, he was ‘thrown under a bus’ for the sake of ratings. He didn’t even KNOW he was to be the apprentice of Gormagon till the last minute, and the fact that the whole “Family of Bones” just leaves him alone in the asylum when Sweets (who SO doesn’t get enough screen time, ditto Angela & Hodgins) is supposedly his doctor…smells bad. I do know from his YouTube account that he was/is dealing with serious bipolar issues, so perhaps that was a factor in Hart Hanson throwing him off the show so abruptly when he was *such* a popular character. So, aside from the two episodes where he came back in Season 5 (?) we will likely never see him again. This is VERY damn sad, as he had undeniable appeal and the viewers loved him. His story arc was always fascinating.

More later, pain is taking over and broken foot bones suck.

  29. Erika on November 21st, 2010 1:16 pm

I really don’t like Hannah, and the sad thing: I tried. I have set and myself over and over again that she can’t be that bad of a person if Booth loves her that much, but I just can’t make myself like her at all.
After watching the episode where she gets shot, and MAKES Brennan give her the sunglasses, I seriously think she’s a brat, even if she tried to play it off as a joke. And the way she reacted when she thought he was proposing, that makes me think that she’s not in it for the long haul.
I think that if Angela and Hodgins have a boy either the first or middle name should be Zack. They need to bring him back at least once, this season anyway. They’re talking about doing a spin off, and as much as I love the Bones and don’t want it to end, maybe if they start the spin off, B and B will get together. Every cloud has a silver lining, this is mine.
