BONES: Do Booth and Brennan Love Each Other?

October 13, 2010 by

Yes, BONES fans, things are a little different this season.

Hannah loves Booth. Booth seems to love Hannah.

But what about Booth and Brennan? Despite all that has happened, do they still love each other?

I chatted with series creator Hart Hanson and he offered some insight on that and why the duo “still have a relationship that no one else can have.” We also talked about Brennan’s retreat to her “safe place.”

Check it out…

Loved it! You always ask the best questions, Marisa! 😀 I hope this put people’s minds at ease for a while.

Not sure HH actually clarified anything in this. When is that glass wall going to come down, Hart? And is it going to have to shatter into a million pieces to do so?

Thanks Marisa. Trying to get real info out of Hart must not be easy.

  4. Faith on October 13th, 2010 8:25 pm

What was the purpose of this, again? Was it to, yet again, make reassurances to shippers so they don’t get their undies into a twist(like they always do)?As IDKWTM said, HH really didn’t clarify anything. Not to mention, he switched topics on you, without hesitation.

Thanks for the interview, Marisa. I just wish you could have asked him something not B/B related. The plot? Other characters? That would have been more interesting because when HH is asked B/B questions, he doesn’t answer and is always cryptic. As a result, it feels like a waste of time lol

Great interview again Marisa (despite the trouble you had uploading it!!) LOL… you get Hart to answer all my questions!! Amazing!!! hahaha. Well done again…

Just like the show, I found this interview boring.

It still appears that HH has no idea what he is doing in the series. It’s his series and he should have some answers vice saying “I think…” at the start of each each answer.

This series has gone from being a well written character type series to one being ran by poorly contrive stories and misdirection of comedic episodes to maintain the UST. HH is trying to play magician by distracting people with his left hand while he’s trying to do something with his right. It’s not working for me.

HH had a perfect chemical formula between the two last year; they were both hot, the humor was sophisticated, the plots were fine. Why oh why did HH fool around with the formula. When it works and isn’t broken – DON’T FIX IT!

Someone mentioned they didn’t want the show to turn out like “Moonlighting.” Not in a million years! “Moonlighting” was rather on the stupid side with shades of “Remington Steele” wannabees. There was no depth of character, they were really not compatible, and plots were contrived.

Booth is not looking too good right now and I imagine that is not the result they wanted when changing the format. Things can have a way of backfiring on you, HH. Just because Brennan is retreating away from an emotional side
doesn’t mean she cannot emote and feel. She is feeling very deeply but doesn’t want to upset the applecart for Booth; instead she is trying very hard to suppress her feelings so that she can support Booth. That’s what people who love each other do: put the other person first. However, enough already!! Let’s get rid of the pathetic Bones and bring back the one from last year.

Get back to the working formula and leave the psychology to Sweets.

  10. mommahurley on October 13th, 2010 10:24 pm

I definitely think Brennan is “IN LOVE” with Booth…she just doens’t know what she’s supposed to do with those kind of feelings…they don’t have a scientific definition…you can’t measure them…And the person that has always helped her to understand those “icky” heart issues … Is kind of busy at the moment! So she’s trying to put it all away and ignore it, and rationalize that Booth will be, and is happier if the Hannah thing works out. It’s hard to be patient and wait for it…and I’m really not feeling chemestry with Booth and Hannah. It’s more like watching 2 people pretending to be in love cause they really just want to be in love…I do like the places it’s taking Brennan, and I’m waiting patiently to see what happens.

Hopefully, soon we will see Booth begin to pick up the vibe that Brennan is hurting…he could always sense it before…he’s a little distracted right now…but soon… When he realizes she’s put aside her own needs to support him, I hope he will start to re-think things. Remember when he said… “She’s not in love with me…if she was in love with me I would feel it”… well, I’m hopeing…pretty soon, be starts “feeling it”/ I sure hope so, becuase the vibe with those two right now…is killin me. But I’m in it for the long haul.

Thank you for the interview, Marisa! I love how he always has to ponder before answering to your questions.

  12. stacey3088 on October 13th, 2010 11:36 pm

One thing that’s bothered me is David B. has stated several times in interviews that Booth put it ALL out there and got shot down. I wonder if that is how Hart sees it too? I’ve seen a lot of people comment that Booth didn’t put it ALL out there. He said ‘I want to give us a shot’. He didn’t profess love, he professed that he wanted to take a gamble on them being a couple- for someone like Brennan, who has so many issues with what she perceives to be the ephemeral nature of relationships and love, how could she possibly agree to a gamble? Then he proves her point by stating that he will move on, that he’ll be able to get over her when he meets someone new. I’d very much like to know how Hart and the cast view exactly what went down here.

  13. Marypat on October 13th, 2010 11:40 pm

I am so disappointed with the show so far. I love the cast, but really dislike the way they make Bones sound like an idiot– i.e. Yes, Hannah is very hot, she is in Afghanistan. That was really lame, as were some of the other lines she was given. Bones was never stupid. I am rewatching series 1 and in comparison, Bones was a warm person in season 1– remember the scene with the foster child that she interrogated, who fell into her arms? It seems like the character has been developed over the last 5 years and is now just a parody of herself. As for Booth, he was the one who made her promise to meet him at the reflection pool in one year, which was so romantic. Then he came back flashing a picture of yet another blond (Rachel/Tessa/Hannah) and opened the conversation with “Did you meet anyone in the jungle?” (duh) which natrually prompted Bones to ask, “No- did you?” Very cheesy of Booth!

  14. Stephanie on October 13th, 2010 11:45 pm

Honestly, I have to agree with the other poster about the direction of the show backfiring. I used to adore Booth, but after seeing the first three episodes that have aired this season, I am really not liking the Booth I see. I understand that he is distancing himself, but something is lacking in the dynamic between B&B, and quite frankly, their relationship is the main reason I watch the show. Plus the fact that Booth’s sex life with Hannah is being shoved down our throats is not appealing at all. I LOVE all the change that we have been seeing so far in Brennan, but for someone who is supposed to be so intuitive, Booth is sorely lacking in that department since his return.

  15. Kim on October 14th, 2010 12:45 am

Hart and his crew aren’t getting that the story they are telling us right now is not what we want to watch. Hannah was poorly cast. She and Booth have no chemistry and are hard to watch together. Gratuitous sex is not entertaining television to watch. Booth’s character has been damaged beyond repair. Brennan in season 1 was more intuitive than season 6 Brennan is. Slap stick comedy doesn’t play well on this show. I rather enjoyed the darker cases of the first few seasons and the quiet humor the show used to have. This is now missing and the writing has deteriorated to boring cases, with little to no connection between the main characters.

Hart doesn’t give real answers to questions. He tends to talk in circles and never really gives an answer that clarifies what is being asked. This is annoying!

Angela and Hodgins getting married was anti-climatic and was poorly done. As a couple they are now boring and uninteresting. The baby storyline was so expected it was not a surprise at all. Their relationship is not enough to carry the show through half a season. Booth and Hannah have no chemistry and are painful to watch together. The actress cast to play Hannah, as journalist, is unbelievable. If Brennan and Booth are finally written as a couple it just won’t work. Why? Hart and crew don’t do well with the romantic culmination plots. They start out fine and are able to write nice little touching moments between characters. Where they mess up royally is when it comes to finally writing characters as interesting couples.

  16. Jen on October 14th, 2010 12:59 am

    A couple of things…

1st – I disagree with Hart… which I don’t think I’m even allowed to do since it’s his show and he WRITES it. Booth didn’t put it all out there in the 100th. He basically said “forget the FBI and the fact that they might end our partnership, let’s try dating, which, as you know from experience with other men, always goes well for you, and forget about this stupid line I drew years ago that you, my very rational, rule-abiding partner took for face value, because I’ve secretly been in love with you since I dreamt of us in a fantasy world during my coma just months earlier…”

    Okay… enough with that.

2nd – I think we’ve seen some reversion… to season 1 Brennan, as well as other seasons… But I think Booth has reverted back to season 1 Booth too. Back then, he was cocky and a little mean and until the third episode of the season, we didn’t see even a glimmer of the Booth we’ve grown to love appear. Booth, IMHO, has made the biggest strides backwards. Why is everyone all hating on Brennan. The woman needed time to sort through things and figure them out… and the one person who’s always helped her do that went off to find other women he could pretend to love.

I’m so mad at Booth right now… and I think Hart wants me to be sympathetic to Booth, but I’m not. I’m sad and disappointed. And I feel bad that a nice girl like Hannah’s caught in the middle of his fears and his denials and his issues.

Everyone blames Brennan for “saying no” and bringing this on… Booth’s just as, if not more terrified. I think it’s about time people start giving some of that not so pleasant credit to the man.

    I miss Booth.

  17. a.e. lee on October 14th, 2010 1:46 am

Right now, I’m sorry I was waiting for this season. The wedge being driven between Booth and Brennan is so blunt, I’m not able to see how any reconcilation can be achieved without some major unrealistic drama. And PLEASE get Miz D, out of the 50s shirtwaist, Beaver Cleaver’s mom! outfits. I get it, Hannah=hot, Bones=not so much, but good golly, her hair, the striped BORING cover every square inch of myself outfits….would it be possible to bring her ‘sexy’ back before I just give up and catch the reruns. For it to be a good drama and not just histrionics, Hannah and Bones need to be equals, right now she’s working on her poor pitiful Pauline bagde in the mollygrubby scouts. Booth, well, yeah, guy, lead around by his whoha, how much more sterotypic could that whole deal be.

Okay, loving the lots of skin Booth–Hannah’s cute as a speckled pup with a red bow and basically I don’t give a fig about any of them becos Bones is ‘broke’ imho–they start to have a tiny taste of verbal banter and Hannah the LIP pops us to stick her tongue in Booth’s face…please make it better before there isn’t anything to wait around for. Let Hannah have an affair with someone at the White House–I don’t care, just enough boring already.

I do love to watch Brennan, and I’m waiting patiently to see what happens. But I already disgusted to watch Booth and Hannah…

  19. Charlotte on October 14th, 2010 4:57 am

Thank you for the interview Marisa! Love hearing what you manage to eek out of Hart!

Very good news to hear that he still thinks Booth and Brennan love each other, I think so too.

I don’t really understand all the Booth-bashing. People are saying that he didn’t ‘put it all out there’?! The guy told her that he’d known from the moment they met me that they were meant to spend the next 30, 40 or 50 years together! It’s hard to imagine a more romantic declaration of love.

He’s not perfect, but man, has he been hurting. Look at his face when they’re dancing at the reunion and tell me that’s not a man trying to hold his crushed heart together.

I don’t mind him being with Hannah at all, I understand why he is – she’s warm, fun, engaging and not afraid to show she loves him. Must be a breath of fresh air for Booth after years of dealing with prickly Brennan.

It’ll be good for Brennan, this situation is making her FEEL things, and those feelings are going to be too strong to ignore. I don’t think she’s going to be able to keep those walls up and it’s waiting for them to come down that I’m watching the show for.

And when they come down, she’ll realise she’s utterly in love with Booth and he’ll realise that it doesn’t matter how ‘perfect’ Hannah seems, Brennan is the only woman for him.

Love this season, love how they’ve shaken it up, trust HH to take us on their journey. And trust you Marisa to wriggle spoilers out of him whenever you can 🙂

  20. Belinda on October 14th, 2010 5:50 am

I’ve been an avid fan of the show since day one, and I tend to agree with majority. Brennan seems to be getting dummer, but not in a funny genious way. Season 6 is starting off with the two main characters having lost their chemistry and going in different directions!
Having re-watched from season 1 it seems Dr.Brennan is getting more and more literal, and totally unable to wrap her head around any sarcasm.
I predict a drop in ratings this season.
It’s official….I have diagnosed her as having Assbergers syndrome!

  21. karly on October 14th, 2010 7:24 am

shut up everyone! booth isn’t an effing saint. he said very clearly, I want us to be together, and she said no. she said no, never, I cannot be in a relationship with you. all of your crazy internet people getting mad at Booth for what, being happy? he’s allowed to be happy! his job is not to wait around until brennan realises she’s a human being and finally take booth. so stop being so ‘booth’s being mean,’ you sound like little kids. this season is much more like real life, because this is what people do. when they are hurt, and angry, they try as hard as they can to forget the other person. of course he’s distancing himself! he can’t be in a loving relationship and a surrogate one. you guys shit me up the wall with this crap. it’s a tv show- don’t be such children and close your eyes at booth/hannah sex scenes. you didn’t mind all of brennan’s relationships. oh, but i forgot, Booth isn’t allowed to be happy. sorry!

  22. rynogeny on October 14th, 2010 9:25 am

I had some pretty serious reservations going into this season, due in part to specific things that were said about this season ‘resetting’ things and due in part to assumptions I made about where things were going.

I’ve been completely impressed by everything they’re doing. One of my two biggest concerns was how they’d show the Booth/Hannah relationship, somehow making it clear that he cares for her (isn’t just using her) but that it isn’t quite what it should be to be a real, sustainable love for him. So far, they’ve allayed my concerns on that score perfectly: he obviously cares for her but there is not yet any real emotional intimacy between them. Physical, certainly, but look at what they’re talking about when alone — Brennan and Hannah’s schedule. In the meantime, we’re still seeing the intimacy that exists between him and Brennan. Perhaps less of it, but it’s still there and it’s far deeper than what’s between him and Hannah.

The second concern I had was how they’d balance things to show B/B’s relationship without making it look like he’s ’emotionally’ cheating on Hannah. I watch the show primarily for B/B’s relationship (not only the romance but their relationship, even when it was just friendship) and was concerned about seeing that. But yes, it’s still there. Different, perhaps, but no less of a bond. And yet, because of how they’re doing it, it never feels icky to me in terms of what he’s saying his relationship with Hannah is. It’s being handled just brilliantly, IMO.

And Brennan? Watching her process things? Watching her grow the character right in front of us? I continue to be awestruck by ED’s acting skills, and would like to thump people in Hollywood who don’t seem to see that when awards time comes around.

In terms of Booth…it feels to me like some fans want Brennan to be a three dimensional character and for Booth to be a robot. As long as he never does anything unexpected — or real — they’re okay with him. But he loves her, and she told him no. People complain about how he didn’t really tell her he loved her in the 100th, but I think Brennan was quite clear on what he was saying. He referred to people who’ve ‘been in love in for 30 or 40 or 50 years,’ making it quite clear what he was saying/asking for. And I think if she’d not understood or believed that he was telling her he was in love with her, she wouldn’t have asked him in the following two eps, ‘is this okay?’ about the dance and talking about Hacker.

She knew exactly what he meant in the 100th, and said no because she wasn’t ready. And nothing he could have said would have changed that. In fact, I don’t think anything but seeing him in a relationship with someone else *could* have changed that. As long as her needs were being met in their friendship/partnership, she would never have changed, never been willing to risk. But Booth has needs as well, and I’m not talking sexual ones.

They may yet disappoint me, and my experience last spring taught me to be careful in managing my anticipation about where they’re going. But what I’ve seen so far is striking me as just brilliant.

  23. EL on October 14th, 2010 11:54 am

I agree with rynogeny that as long as the writers are using Hannah to distract Booth while Brennan figures out her own emotional reality, the story is working. But and it’s a big BUT, when she does, and it looks as if she will in episode 8, then B&B have to move toward each other. If Booth and Hannah break up and we know they will, TPTB can’t decide to throw a dozen more spanners into the works — Brennan decides to move on, Booth gets another brain tumor, the apocalypse begins, whatever. B&B have to come together in a believable and moving way this season for the show to work any longer for me.

  24. Lola on October 14th, 2010 11:59 am

Sorry – I’ve seen nothing ‘Brilliant’ in Season 6.

I’m not liking the dynamic between B/B or B/H

I watch this show for the B&B relationships as well and I’ve seen very little that satisfies me. In fact, there is much that just turns me off. I guess some can really delve deep and find some satisfaction. I don’t have the time or energy. TV is not an exercise for me. If I don’t get enjoyment, I don’t watch. If I want drama and angst there are other shows that do it much better. Bones was always an enjoyment for me. Not anymore.
I have’t seen growth in Brennan yet. She’s pretty much the robotic Brennan I don’t enjoy.

Booth has proven her right with Hannah. The episodes so far leave me rather empty and sad.

  25. EL on October 14th, 2010 1:17 pm

One remark that I’ve heard ED make and others is that ‘Bones’ is acting ‘just like real life’. If I wanted real life, I wouldn’t turn on the tv. ‘Bones’ is nothing like real life and great fictional loves like the potential that Booth and Brennan have are a way to escape from the problems of real life. In real life, Brennan would probably be institutionalized and Booth would be married with four kids. Forget real life and give me fictional catharsis — ie B&B together at last but still solving cases, bickering and disagreeing. It can be done.

  26. Tiffany on October 14th, 2010 1:17 pm

@ Lola: I agree. It doesn’t matter how fair the situation is (to Booth) or isn’t (to Brennan). It doesn’t matter if this is what would or wouldn’t happen in real life. The bottom line is: I don’t enjoy watching the show anymore. Booth and Hannah together is extremely uncomfortable and Brennan’s growth, however necessary, is painful. I get enough discomfort and pain in real life thank you very much. So I am going to stick around because I am excited about Episode 8 (first and only episode, so far, that I have ANY enthusiasm for), not only for the character developments I hope to see in it, but the premise sounds extremely interesting. But we’ll see where it goes after that. I want the show that I actually look forward to back, not the one I now dread every week.

  27. Emily on October 14th, 2010 2:31 pm

I just think the whole B/B thing is really immature. It makes no sense and it’s like Brennan has to change who she IS to be with Booth. IMO, that means they aren’t meant to be. Then, they are showing Brennan being all OOC and almost pining. And, people actually think that’s growth? Um, no. It’s not. I’m glad the over-focus isn’t on their will they/won’t they anymore. Hannah can stay as long as she wants. It’s about time we were brought back to basics. Bones is NOT a love story.

  28. jen on October 14th, 2010 2:49 pm

I am DISGUSTED at the Bones fandom at the moment. Some of you need to grow up and get some manners.

  29. mary on October 14th, 2010 2:53 pm

I love BOOTH AND HANNAH They are fun, cute and are totally gorgeous together. I love that Booth is happy, man has been like a kicked puppy for years. love that he is in a relationship now.

  30. john on October 14th, 2010 2:57 pm

total hannah and Booth supporter. They are super cute.

  31. karen on October 14th, 2010 3:02 pm

Bones fans seriously grow up. Booth isn’t a monk, a saint or a virgin. He is just a man trying to find happiness. And I am glad that he has found Hannah. They are not the end game/ Booth and Brennan are. Brennan said NO and now she has to live with her choìce, painful or not.

  32. jeri on October 14th, 2010 3:05 pm

BRENNAN IS SO ROBOTIC JERSEY SHORE WAS CRINGEWORTHY. AWFUL BRENNAN. LOVE HANNAH AND BOOTHIE BOY

  33. Kay on October 14th, 2010 3:08 pm

I agree with what some others have said, that Bones has lost it’s appeal. You can scream that Bones is about the cases, and not a “love story” until your blue in the face, but the fact will always remain that Bones is most definitely about Brennan and Booth. The fact that the writers decided to “reset” the show and regress the characters people have grown to love so much in the past 6 years, does not come off “brilliant” to me, it’s lazy. It shows me that the writers have lost their creativeness and decided “hey, lets just make them act like they were in the beginning so we have to rebuild them, which of course could take years, and leaves us time to twiddle our thumbs before/if we decided to hook them up. I won’t even get started on the cliche third party angst that was brought in as a blatant plot point to drive an even further wedge between the two leads. The relationship between the two lead characters is just awful to watch now. I have literally winced watching the past few episodes. My favorite show shouldn’t be giving me a headache while watching it. I miss what Bones used to be, it had so much potential and the writers got WAY too full of themselves and decided to take their egos to the show. I hope someday they realize that not everyone bows at their feet.

  34. abby on October 14th, 2010 3:14 pm

Booth has every right to find love and happiness. His life was pretty much in hold. It would be unhealty for him to live in the past, waiting for crumbs of the Brennan table. Make no mistake she said no and no means no. Nobody should have to beg to be loved or wait indefinately till they come around. Brennan has taken Booth for granted for far too long. About time she realized that everything doesn’t revolve around her.IT IS BOOTH’S LIFE NOT HERS

  35. Janet (ProfeJMarie) on October 14th, 2010 3:15 pm

I am not sure why some folks are frustrated with HH’s roundabout comments. I would expect nothing less – some people like to read the last pages of books before starting them, but many like the surprise and anticipation. As a writer, I cannot imagine why he would want to give away everything. And, it is TV – by necessity it must be dynamic. HH has a vision, but details change all of the time to fulfill that vision successfully, effectively.

I would think that the answers he gives are quite gratifying for those who aren’t actually sure what is going on. For example, he says that Booth and Brennan love each other. That speaks to the whole issue of how things will turn out, “in spite” of Hannah. He explains Brennan’s actions – disagree or not with how he and the team are writing it, that’s the way it is. Isn’t it helpful to know that?

It is one thing to not want to watch the show anymore, it is another to comment in such a way that does not indicate one has actually listened to the interview.

  36. peej on October 14th, 2010 3:22 pm

Am I in love with Booth and Brennan anymore? That’s the question. And no, not really. It feels like they missed their moment. Heck, while you’re at it HH, bring in a love interest for Bones, I don’t even care right now.

This little Hannah storyline managed to make me not care whether they ever get together or not, ruined Booth as a character for me and care even less about Booth and Hannah, the couple with absolutely no chemistry whatsoever. It’s like I can’t even be bothered to get worked up because she is so completely predictable as a plot device. Blonde, peppy and oh-so-wonderful. With a weird speech pattern to boot. Yawn. What a complete waste of my time.

Shoving them having sex in my face is about the biggest turn-off I’ve ever seen on this show. And that includes the maggot-ridden,skin-slipping, rat-infested rancid corpses. Impressive.

(The reason no-one cares about Hodgins and Angela is that they were thrown together in 5 minutes, married off and having a baby before we could even take a breath. We haven’t seen any build up, so we didn’t get to root for them – and that includes the honeymoon… and now we just don’t care – we are just not invested in them).

  37. mikey on October 14th, 2010 3:22 pm

I would be more than happy if Marisa had no comments to the posts. It is not her fault but thanks to haters GMMR has attracted the negative and nasty mean element of the Bones fandom. Be ashamed you so called Bones fans.

  38. nora on October 14th, 2010 3:23 pm

I really don’t understand why some people still watch this show.
I wouldn’t watch a show where I tend to hate one or several charaters or the direction which was chosen.
So people who hates Booth or Hannah or HH for doing their jobs, go away. I’m sure you can find a “happy” show where everybody is always happy and where love is like in a Disney movie which you watched when you were a kid.
Because if not, Bones is no more for you.

Yeah, you want to watch a show which isn’t like life. Sorry, but all good shows are like life. And life is not fair or always easy. Love hurts. Love is unfair. Unsaid love is killing . Love makes you make mistakes. Love makes you hurt the other one. And I’m glad that Bones is like real life.

What I find the most unfair is those who don’t “recognize” Booth or hate the “new” Booth. OMG, you just realized that he was just a man and not a knight riding his horse ? ( Suddenly imagining DB riding a horse is not a bad thought… )
Sorry for breaking your happy bubble. Booth is a man with his imperfections and that’s why he is this man we know since 6 years, with more complexity that it appeared at first look. And some of you can’t get it. Too bad for you.
And it’s so easy to forget that Booth has a past too. Right. You don’t care, you hate him…
Everyone always talk about Brennan’s past, her fear of abandonment, her fear of trust. But it’s the same for Booth. He was abandoned and abused by his alcoholic father dammit !!! And if you choose to have a small piece of reflexion and psychology, it won’t be hard to understand that he is damaged too.
He feels that he can’t be loved, that he is not worth it. And till now his romantic history didn’t prove the contrary. Rebecca didn’t want him, him the father of her child. And Brennan, the one he loves since the beginning said NO. Whatever her reasons, she pushed him back !
How did you want him to react ???
We’re not in a fairytale Disney story where the guy let himself die for waiting too long for his princess.
Booth HAD to move on. And like in real life, outside your little screen, he tries, like all healthy people in the world, to find love and happiness. And he found a woman who loves him, openly, easily.
Why should he have not let him fall for her ? He has strong feelings for Hannah. Maybe you can’t understand that someone can love 2 persons at the same time but it happens. His love IS Brennan. From the beginning and till the end. But for now, he tries to protect himself and his heart, and live a real life. That’s why he can’t let himself be close to Brennan. He can’t allow himself to let come back his feelings for her. And it will last as long as HH decided it.
And if you still think this is acting in a wrong way, then I’m sorry for you. For never having love someone in silence. For trying to stay in on piece. For trying to survive with a broken heart.

We all know B&B will be together. This path is necessary for both of them and after only 3 episodes, what Hannah is bringing to Brennan is priceless.
I love Brennan. I was here to fight for her, when haters came after the 100th. As she couldn’t act otherwise in the 100th, now she has to feel those feelings. She has to miss Booth. She has to suffer because it’s a part of love. It’s part of the process.

So whatever will happen, if you can’t stand this, please, move on and go watch something else and stop with those childish reactions.

( Sorry if I made typos. I didn’t read myself and my natural language makes me type wrongly specially when I’m angry after what I read here. )

Good job Marisa. Like always. You always know what to ask. Thanks.

I LOVE BOOTH I LOVE HANNAH . And guess what? I LOVE them together. They are hot and are so freaking cute together. Squishes them

Haters stop watching and get a life. or up your meds. or get a freaking life. buh bye.

  41. ASH on October 14th, 2010 3:34 pm

OMG Brennan is a robot. She is just an idiot. Doesnt know the difference between MTV and a doc. Again what a stupid witch.

  42. jackie on October 14th, 2010 3:36 pm

I adore Hannah and Booth. They are adorable. I hope they last. Up yours Brennan

  43. holand on October 14th, 2010 3:44 pm

I detest Brennan. Always will hate her. I have seen more affection from my goldfish than she has shown to Booth°s face over the years. SO BRING ON HANNAH AND BOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. Debs on October 14th, 2010 3:48 pm

i rather have HANNAH over Brennan anyday. That is how much I hate Brennan. A character that has only been in 2 epis has more appeal and warmth to me than that cold fish Brennan

  45. maxi on October 14th, 2010 3:49 pm

TEAM BOOTH AND HANNAH! Love those 2 SFM!!!!!!

  46. notgrownupiguess on October 14th, 2010 3:50 pm

I find some of the comments interesting. The ones which say that it’s good to see Booth happy. I don’t think he’s happy. If you think about his childhood, and past, and everything, then it’s just sad that he is looking for happiness in the wrong place (quoting him, from an earlier season), when clearly he is not truly happy. But that’s just how I see it all. If you see him happy, good for you.
I am more interested in finding out how this ‘happiness’ end for him, and how he deals with that, and how he finds his real ‘joy’. (pun intended?)
And I find it amusing how people need to have someone to blame. In this case Brennan. Why does there have to be someone who is at fault? No need to blame anyone here, they are both just doing the same thing they always did. I think…
If you look at the Booth and Brennan history, take account ALL you know of (before they met, and their journey together so far), and look at all the pieces, then can people really see that Booth was the giver, and Brennan the taker at all times? I find that statement interesting, cause it seems to indicate that people read the same scenes so very differently. I saw efforts from both sides, only they seem to speak a different language, and that makes understanding the other harder. (if that makes any sense)
I’d think it would be inteersting to see these two broken souls get together, and heal each other. Or was the soulmates thing they used in season 5 episode just random? Eventually they will get over their fears and doubts, and lines drawn, and reasons why they shouldn’t be together.
To answer the question: it is essential for the story to work that B/B do love each other. And not in an atta girl/boy kind of way.

  47. peej on October 14th, 2010 3:51 pm

^^ Are those last 6 comments written by exactly the same person, using different usernames by any chance?

At least try and mix up your writing style a little bit. It’s incredibly obvious.

  48. rynogeny on October 14th, 2010 3:52 pm

There are a number of responses I could make, and decided against, beyond noting that my explanation of why I’m enjoying the show was not intended to irritate those who aren’t.

But I will say that I think it’s probably risky to pin a lot of hopes on ep 8. I think it’s going to be fantastic and we’re going to see some really amazing things from Emily. But I’m not sure it’s going to be the game changer people are expecting.

And also? For those who keep insisting that Booth expects Brennan to change her whole personality for him…no. He’s never said or done anything to suggest that. He loves her as she is. But she does have to change in one fundamental way if they’re ever to have a relationship: she has to get to the point of being able to say ‘yes’ to such a relationship. She couldn’t with Sully, and couldn’t three years later with Booth. That is quite sincerely the only change I think he was looking for. If it’s not okay for him to have wanted that, then why even think in terms of a relationship between the two of them?

  49. peej on October 14th, 2010 3:52 pm

Sorry, notgrownupiguess, I didn’t mean your comment. I mean jenny, hann, ASH, jackie, holand, Debs and maxi.

  50. notgrownupiguess on October 14th, 2010 4:06 pm

@peej ha-ha-ha Thanks, I got that. Though at first I was confused. cause I hadn’t posted a comment here before.

@Marisa Thank you for trying to get answers to some questions. You are very, very good at what you do.

  51. maxi on October 14th, 2010 4:11 pm

peej, I have no idea what you are talking about. Maybe you shouldn’t be so judgemental. Maybe some fans do not want to write essays as a response. Still loving Hannanh and Booth

  52. peej on October 14th, 2010 4:20 pm

Oh @maxi you have made me giggle.

Love Booth and Hannah with all your heart, it truly doesn’t bother me. At all.

And fair enough, every other consecutive comment apart from those six are completely differently written, but of course, I believe you. Of course.

  53. FiyFiy on October 14th, 2010 4:23 pm

Brennan was so OCC in the Jersey Shore epi. I wanted to vomit and smack her. Yes she makes me want to hurl. I adore Angela, Cam and Booth so that is why I watch. Hart has ruined Brennan. And thank you Marisa for posting.

  54. maxi on October 14th, 2010 4:28 pm

peej, stop being judgemental. Maybe some fans cannot be bothered to right essays in their post. And who are you anyway the comments monitor??? I right for me and me alone. And for the record I LOVE HANNAH AND BOOTH SFM!!! So there.

  55. Kay on October 14th, 2010 4:28 pm

@mikey Oh so having an opinion that doesn’t jive with yours makes others “So called Bones fans?” Since when are you the almighty and get to make those kinds of decisions? I would love to know when the Bones fandom became so political. It used to be fun to be a Bones fan, and now it’s not so much anymore. If you’re not bowing down to the writers on twitter, you’re a “Bad” Bones fan. If you don’t like the 6th season so far, you’re a bad Bones fan. If you don’t think David Boreanaz is the best thing since sliced bread and drool over every inch of skin he decides to show, YOU’RE A BAD BONES FAN! Since when is being a fan all about being “good” or “bad”? Bones should count their blessings for ANY fan they have not just ones that agree with their every whim. I’m sick and tired of other fans telling others that they’re not good enough to be a Bones fan. Being a Bones fan is not by invite only, you don’t get to kick people out. Some of you people need to realize that. This is not High School, grow up!

  56. Daniella on October 14th, 2010 4:39 pm

I got to agree with some of the others. i have no problem with Booth and Hannah. I like them. They are pretty adorable. And I am all for Booth being happy and loved up. It is Brennan who is just weird and acting like a brain dead teenager. Jersey Shore was the pits.

  57. Chris on October 14th, 2010 4:47 pm

@debs that is how I feel too. Brennan has been so over the placfe character wise that I just don’t care for her at all. So I am 100% supportive of Booth and any relationship he has. And Hannah is so sweet, love her, they are good together.

  58. Janey on October 14th, 2010 5:07 pm

Thank you for the interview . . . . but the lack of respect in the comment section is not becoming at all. People you have brain filters use them and then click post. . . . And I like Hannah too, she is mixing it up and bringing a very cute Booth out to play.

  59. Noe on October 14th, 2010 5:10 pm

LOL, that was so obvious… And there are more!

  60. Anja on October 14th, 2010 5:11 pm

Why do some people who are loving season 6, Booth with Hannah etc. feel so annoyed if other fans are disappointed and not liking it?
I am not liking season 6 at all, but I am glad if others do enjoy it. What is the problem here? Why so much anger? It’s not a competition!
Anyway the producers are the ones who decide. I don’t like what they are writing now, I have the choice to either stop watching or watch and make my POLITE remarks. Aren’t we here to just SHARE our views, not to just look for people who think the exact same things as us? Once Hanson has decided, if some fans love this story arc, it makes me glad! I want the show to continue anyway, I am sorry if ratings go down. So, happy some people are watching enthusiastically.
But I expect same respect for my humble opinion, which is that I really dislike Booth and his relationship with Hannah. I don’t see any happiness there, just dishonesty. Again, my opinion. I would like to be free to express it without being insulted.

The thing I dislike most about season 6 is not Hannah, Booth or Brennan. It’s like some fans are becoming competitive, and fight each other. There is NO team Booth nor team Brennan in the show. Booth and Brennan belong together, and they are the key to each other hearts.
Brennan is supporting Booth in his endeavours to find happiness, Booth is supporting Brennan the same way. Why can’t fans understand that and do the same?

  61. Victoria on October 14th, 2010 5:29 pm

@Anja you make a very good point. There is no tolerance within the Bones fandom. Just a lack of respect for each others pov and others going on and on trying to make their negative voices heard here, on twitter and the forums.

  62. Judy.J on October 14th, 2010 5:36 pm

Haters? see that corner, in the far left, yes that is it, haters to the left. I love this season of Bones and I down with Booth and the gorgeous Hannah. They kinda are cute, hot, adorable and sweet and me not being a shipper, well I just adore them.

  63. Emily on October 14th, 2010 7:47 pm

@kay, since you seem to not be able to address the people(like me) who said Bones is not at love story, you can scream all you want and say Bones is about “Booth and Brennan” until YOU’RE blue in the face, but it’s still NOT a love story. Bones is about these two people with differences, solving cases together and finding justice. There’s a little UST thrown in there. It’s not a show about Booth and Brennan’s journey into falling in love. The show is still about those two solving cases, and finding justice w/ UST.

  64. rose on October 14th, 2010 9:24 pm

Where did the science of the show disappear to? Where does this season’s off-the-cuff comedy-wanna-be come from? This show was developed with a scientic background and basis, around which we learned to love the characters, but now it’s gone. The entire cast has had a huge wedge driven within it. Things are all just so unreal and unbelievable anymore, it’s very disappointing. Booth’s “giddiness” is just not realistic enough for his character, as the character has grown over the life of the show. His character has becomre flawed. Brennen, OK, I understand she’s coming to some emotional turmoil-terms, but for being as smart as she is as an anthropologist, she should have a WHOLE lot more insight to basic emotions… It’s just SO disappointing this season…

  65. Kay on October 14th, 2010 9:38 pm

@Emily I didn’t address you because I have heard that same mantra from others so I felt why not just address the general public, but since you’re so adamant that I address you and only you, I will fix it for you. EVERYONE! EVERYONE CAN I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE? IN MY FIRST POST I WOULD LIKE TO DIRECT MY COMMENT TO EMILY AND ONLY EMILY SO PLEASE DO NOT READ THAT COMMENT. NONE OF IT, IT’S ONLY FOR HER! THANK YOU! YOU CAN RETURN TO WHATEVER YOU WERE DOING NOW.

    Better?

As for Bones being about the cases with only UST thrown in, in ten yen years from now, when people talk about Bones, what do you think will be the first thing to come to their mind for the majority at least? Because I can guarantee it won’t be the cases.

  66. Tiffany on October 14th, 2010 10:33 pm

Personally, I think loving Booth and Hannah together is a waste of time and emotion. HH himself has said that Booth and Brennan aren’t an “if” but a “when.” What is the point in rooting for them when there is NO chance they are going to make it?

  67. Alexandra on October 14th, 2010 10:40 pm

Wow, one word for this season so far, boring.

the season premiere, i kind of loved what they did, starting all over again. But what bugs the heck out of me, is the lacking of chemistry between B&B, its just absolutely gone, because of Booth. The season finale, in the final scene, it was heart-breaking, and their chemistry was just amazing through the whole season. Also I agree with everyone else, the sex scenes are getting way out of hand, and i seriously don’t want to see that in every episode, it isn’t appealing!

I love this show, but jeez, where did all the good writing go? I miss it! and I miss B&B, cause they make that show so much more amazing with their chemistry!

  68. Emily on October 14th, 2010 10:56 pm

@kay – LOL that was pretty funny, ngl.

As for 10 years from now? Bones won’t even be remembered. It’ll be “Oh, that show with that guy from Angel? Yeah, it was pretty lame.” Sad, but true. It won’t be remembered like “Lost”, “Angel”, “Veronica Mars” and other shows that are long gone(with the exception of Lost) but still have VERY active fandoms years after the shows finished.

There’s nothing that stands out about Bones(for it to be remembered in 10 yrs) because all people seem to care about is whether B/B get together or not and totally base their enjoyment of the show on that. No B/B and people act like immature kids because they didn’t get what they want. Then, cry that they aren’t going to watch the show anymore.

Anyway, if you read my comment, I said it’s about two peeps who have differences(that would be B/B), who solve crimes together with UST thrown in. UST because in TV land two people of the opposite sex can’t just be platonic friends. There MUST be UST *eye roll* If there were no cases, the lab or squints, there would be no show and people would stop watching in droves.

  69. Emily on October 14th, 2010 11:01 pm

Just to clarify, the “people” I’m talking about are internet fans. I’m sure the non-internet people, who are the majority of the viewership, watch for a variety of reasons. The majority of the Internet fandom seems to only care if B/B get together or not.

  70. Nancy on October 14th, 2010 11:51 pm

They didn’t want the show to turn out like “Moonlighting” because would be the end of the show. I think the show is over now. Too many signs ilustrates this: less updates in web sites dedicated to “Bones”, less comments in blogs or forums, rating are lower than last season….HH is killing his show and doesn’t want to realize this.
By the way, I’m not watching the show anymore, I prefer to remember the three (maybe four) first season, since then watch the show has been only deception, frustration, for that I prefer turn off the TV.

  71. Inelitwus on October 15th, 2010 3:31 am

Ok my opinion abt season 6. Bones n Booth R really so sad even if Booth tries to be happy.
I don’t blame him or her. Both made a mistake. She said no coz she was scared he didn’t get her more time n moved on. But even now after the last scene from 6×03 we see that both still R in love. Booth loves Bones, n Bones loves Booth. Maybe some ppl see that Booth loves Hannah but I don’t for me only moved on n found someone who’s gonna love him coz his real love one said no IMO. Still believe in B&B coz they R meant2be 🙂 No matter what other ppl say. Now next move is for HH to make sth to bring them back!!!
Like I said long time ago 2 HH after 6×02 he shows us how much Bones is hurt. Ok she made a mistake she said no but that’s how Brenn is maybe some ppl forgot that she was abandonment child that she created a wall next 2 her n one day Booth showed up n he destroyed that wall but now for me he is hurting her more he shows her that maybe she has a right by telling him no then coz he shows that he is not responsible even if he moved on n has a GF he forgot abt Bones as a friend now IMO they R only partners from work nothing else. IDK why HH is saying that they R in love when he give us sth else?? IDK 6×08 give us sth that we actually know that Bones realizes that she loves him ok but which will be next step showing Bones sad n Booth happy? It doesn’t make sense at all. Ok show that Booth tries 2 be happy but at least stop showing sad Brenn coz I can watch it!!!!
HH should do sth but IDK what is in his head boo 🙁 If he wanna put B&B on the last scene of the last epi ever it’s sth wrong with him. If he doesn’t wanna put B&B coz he has some reasons ok but he must be honest with the fans n tell them truth. They will be watching still coz he will show them some respect IMO.
I didn’t believe that Hannah will be there only for 5 epi. Why coz when she is there they can make lots of epi right? Read lots of seasons even but who is gonna watch it?? Really I don’t mind Hannah coz she appears on Bones at the wrong place at wrong time n she will be hurt coz Booth doesn’t love her he moved on coz Bones said no ok I can go with that he found Hannah (someone who loves him n can love him 30,40,50 years) but he is not in love with her!!! For me putting Hannah in season 6 for whole season make no sense IMO. Sorry I won’t change my opinion. Now on the show we can see that poor Brenn is again betrayed by someone who she loves sad but true!!! IMO they R trying to show us sth funny like “Yo Wsup Yo” Dude to distract us, let us forget abt B&B or am I wrong??
IMO Bones is in love now she knows that but she wanna him to be happy even without her!!!
IMO Booth found that one who can love him n he moved on but he is not in love with her!!!
I don’t believe that he loves her. IMO he is having only sex with her nothing more. But only Brenn can show him what the making love when 2 ppl become one means 🙂 Just sayin’ 🙂
I don’t buy that Booth is in love with Hannah. IMO she is one of those who can love him when Bones said no right?? Maybe Hannah loves him but if she is not stupid she will go away when she will realize that B&B R meant2be 🙂 Really I dislike her n I wanna her 2 be gone ASAP but she is there so at least she can help B&B 🙂 But after that she must go! For me Hannah can die go aways without saying goodbye she must disappear coz she doesn’t fit there 🙂 IMO she showed at the wrong place at the wrong time so she must go coz she makes me angry especially when she tries 2 be nice. Really I’m not afraid of Hannah but really I can’t stand watching sad Bones!!! N Hannah doesn’t help me at all!!
But lately I don’t see nothing between them only sad Bones n booth kissing Hannah nth more. I don’t wanna them as a couple now with little steps but they should be soon 2gether not in a few minutes of the last epi ever!! 🙂
She is trying 2 be nice n with every scene with her it’s getting worse n worse !!!
Sorry but she pissed me off not for being with Booth coz I don’t see love between them but her face n smile makes me angry LOL. Imo she will stay there till season 6 ends!!! IMO HH is not that stupid to having her for a long time coz lots off ppl will go away n for whom he will be doing the show?? For him?? Nope so *fingers crossed*
Yes maybe some of fans like Hannah. They have right to like or dislike who they wanna. I don’t n I won’t like 🙂 I don’t say that ppl can’t like Hannah they can but I won’t 🙂 I love only B&B so it’s obvious I dislike Hannah or other ppl next 2 them 🙂 B&B R meant2be right?? For me only B&B R for each other 🙂 Right from the beginning 🙂 Yes we wanna see B&B as a couple it’d be sth nice 2 see 🙂 And worth 2 watch 🙂
Ok this is HH show ok but he must bring back B&B coz we miss them btw we don’t care Hannah right coz B&B R meant2be:)
Ok i watched n I liked B&B at the end 🙂 I missed them but I have a faith in them 🙂 N no one can take it away from me 🙂
Yes I saw latest interview with HH but what he can tell now when fans R really angry now?? He should bring old B&B ASAP n kick Hannah from the show IMO he should make from her serial killer so it’d be the easiest way 2 kick her ass LOL 🙂 HH said lots off thing n what?? He is such a liar LOL. But I can give him credit of trust 🙂 He must put them 2gether I can’t see sth else 🙂
For me Hannah could die n go away even without saying goodbye I won’t cry 🙂 I watch now Bones for ED she is amazing real funs won’t stop watching ITA 🙂 Emily is the one person for whom I watch #Bones 🙂 ED U rock 🙂 At season 6 U kick other sorry 🙂
Everyone can have own opinion or other point of view. It’s sad that all ppl or on Internet, or in front or TV who R called Bones fans R fighting. It’s pathetic!!! And lots of them forgot that Bones is abt Temperance Brennan n not abt Hannah Burley. Just sayin’.

  72. peej on October 15th, 2010 4:43 am

@Nancy – totally agree. Comments are WAY down on the internet. One watch-a-long thread I follow, used to get in the region of 600+ comments per episode. Now they’re down to about 220. That is a *huge* drop, even if you take into account that they might have started to post elsewhere. Forums and blogs are closing. Comments are down on facebook. In number and tone. The show is losing thousands of viewers per week. The fandom has started to quarrel like never before. None of these are good signs, if you ask me.

  73. Ann on October 15th, 2010 2:33 pm

The Bones fandom is really crumbling. Lots of fans against fans and not in a good way. It seems like you have the non-shippers, rational shippers who watch for more than B/B on one side and the fairytale, in the clouds shippers, who only watch for B/B and hate anyone who comes between them, on the other side. I’ve never seen it, this bad. I understand being impatient, but as some have said above, this isn’t a soap opera or a B/B love story. It’s more than that, and there are other aspects of the show that the blind fans are missing. It’s a pity.

  74. Beth on October 15th, 2010 2:54 pm

Wow. I am embarassed that I even came to this site after reading alot of the comments…… I definitely would not admit it to my grown kids, my husband or any of my friends. I just wanted to hear what others’ opinions of the first 3 episodes are. You people that make really lengthy posts are looking just a wee bit nuts! Just CALM down….Booth and Brennan are NOT REAL PEOPLE!

I still love BONES the tv show. I will admit that I am in favor of an eventual B&B romance, however, I will not try to rewrite the episodes or the ending. If I start hating it, I will stop watching. The End.

  75. barbiegirl on October 15th, 2010 6:27 pm

I must say that so far none of the episodes of S06 have been as entertaining as previous seasons..i know that’s just my opinion but It has been pretty boring ..even the cases aren’t interesting!..I’m still going to watch because i love the cast..hopefully HH can revisit some of the earlier episodes and see what made us love this show in the first place!

  76. DJ on October 18th, 2010 1:49 pm

I think that Booth’s expression when Brennan was on the ‘Dude” show was sooooo telling. He’s just fooling himself with the Hannah person. Booth and Hannah’s interactions are so contrived. His real feelings show when he’s with Brennan.

  77. parvati hobbs on November 16th, 2010 9:36 pm

Listen up people. First of all, in the 100th ep. Brennan didn’t say no to Booth, she said that she Didn’t Know how. Booth, who in the past would have guided Bren as he did with the crapy sex explenation in Death In The Saddle, was unable to offer Brennan the wisdom of his insight, which indicates to me that He too was in unchartered waters. It was after Sweets dared him to take a gamble and after sitting there and saying nothing when Bren said that they were not in Love with each other, acted on that dare without expressing to Brennan how he really felt about her. And being true to her charcter, Brennan said no initially. And unlike Hoggins, Booth didn’t fight for Her, He didn’t say she’s complecated and I’ll figure her out, He retreated and said that he would have to move on. So whats up with Booth? Perhaps He too has never REALLY been in LOVE. This Story has GREAT potentual to be a beautiful addition to the show. The deep Spiritual connection they share, the Trust and Respect they have for one another, COME ON PEOPLE!!! (WRITERS, HH). Watch Barbara Streisand and Jeff Bridges in The Mirror Has Two Faces. As for the Hannah presence, I truely believe that it’s bad casting and the lack of experience and talent that’s THE REAL PROBLEM!!!

  78. Elizabeth on December 8th, 2010 9:50 pm

I admit that I started watching the show because I loved the Booth-Brennan romance, but it’s not the only reason I watch now. I like the science part of the show and I find the little anthropological facts that are dropped in fascinating. I am a little disappointed about how season 6 has been progressing and I agree with those fans who believe that the characters just seem a little off, but it would make some sense that they would be different after being away from their regular environment for almost a year.
As to the debate behind the 100th episode, I believe that it was both their faults that things fell apart. But it doesn’t really matter does it? Because it’s happened. I agree that I don’t always want to see things happen like they would in reality because it’s not reality, it’s a fictional world and things can go the way we want them too. Only to a point though.
I still like the show and I am going to continue watching it because I find in enjoyable and I think that’s all that really matters.

  79. Kimmy on January 24th, 2011 8:16 pm

I LOOOVVVE Bones!!!! Now I wanna be a forensic anthropologist!! 🙂 This is taking a long time though. 🙁 I hate that stupid clown in season five after booth got brain surgery thts what made booth change his mind he was about to tell bones he loves er but then she said he’d remember in a few weeks he hates clowns. And he decided Sweets was right it was just te dream that was making him feel like that. I hope they get together except for then- they’d probly end the show cuz one would probably get killed off! Ugh it’s agrivating!!! Stupid Hannah! I am kinda mad right now…
