TOP CHEF: ALL STARS Make Kiddie Food for Joe Jonas. Wait, What?

Now that the first elimination is out of the way, the remaining cheftestants are simultaneously relieved and on-edge. They survived one challenge, and are just glad to not be in last place. But if it wasn’t apparent that this competition is tough, it sure is now that someone has actually been sent packing.

The quickfire challenge has teen heartthrob Joe Jonas serving as judge. Youthful Spike knows who Joe Jonas is. Antonia has a young daughter, so she knows who Joe Jonas is. Dale T. does not know who Joe Jonas is, and thinks he might be a pastry chef. Hah.

The challenge is to create a midnight snack for a children’s sleepover at the American Museum of Natural History. Chefs always hate cooking for kids because of their unsophisticated palettes. But if I didn’t know any better, I could’ve thought they were asked to cook for aliens the way they were complaining and scrambling for ideas.

FRINGE: Preview ‘Marionette,’ Plus a Schedule Update

Good news and bad news for FRINGE fans: Thursday brings a brand spankin’ episode of one of the best shows on television…but it’s also the last fresh hour we’ll get this year.

However, the series’ winter hiatus won’t be as long as fans initially thought.

Fox originally announced that FRINGE would be moving to Friday nights starting January 28th, a seven-week break between new episodes. But now comes word that the show will return a week earlier (January 21st) for six weeks of uninterrupted awesomeness. The fun begins with “Firefly,” featuring guest star Christopher Lloyd. (Yes,  you read that right — “Firefly” — Just like the beloved Joss Whedon series of the same name which died on Friday nights. Someone, somewhere has a wicked sense of humor.)

Michael C. Hall Sings a DEXTER-ized ‘Santa Claus is Coming To Town’

To the brilliant writers of DEXTER: Michael C Hall has come up with a song that should definitely make it into the show next season.

When Hall appeared on LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON Tuesday night, he was asked what Dexter’s favorite holiday song might be. Hall said the lyrics of “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” would likely resonate with his character and he gamely belted out his version of the classic tune — with a few modifications.

GLEE: A Very Glee Christmas

There are times when GLEE’S overly saccharine, somewhat-preachy, borderline-ridiculous plot makes me long for the subtle poignancy of the Pilot (and to varying degrees, the rest of Season 1.) But if there were a time to be forgiving of such shortcomings, it would be Christmas, am I right? There was plenty of “that’s not what Christmas is all about” sappiness, and everyone trying to do the right thing *yawn* but you know what? I was okay with it. We DO need a little Christmas. And there are worse things this show could do than spread the joy.

LIE TO ME Season Shortened

Fox has decided against picking up LIE TO ME for a full season.

The show will complete its current run with 13 episodes (the final hours are set to air in January).

This doesn’t necessarily mean LIE TO ME is canceled, as the network could still opt to bring it back next fall.

Shortly after the news broke, series star Brenden Hines tweeted, “hey LTM fans. no back 9 for us, sadly. love you.” Hines has also tweeted pictures of the cast with the hashtag #buckupcampers.

Buck up, campers, indeed. Are you okay with this news?

A Charlie Brown Christmas | 8pm on ABC
In the Emmy and Peabody-winning animated cartoon from 1965, the gang mounts a holiday pageant as Charlie Brown bemoans Yuletide commercialism. Also: “Prep & Landing: Operation Secret Santa,” a short featuring the prep-and-landing elves on a covert mission to Santa’s office, with Betty White providing the voice of Mrs. Claus.

Glee | 8pm on Fox
“A Very Glee Christmas”
Finn tries to bring holiday cheer to McKinley High, and Artie discovers that Brittany still believes in Santa. Meanwhile, the teachers pick their Secret Santas and one particularly manipulative McKinley staffer rigs the gift-giving.

The Biggest Loser | 8pm on NBC
“Marathon”
Loved ones cheer on the final four contestants as they run a marathon; a contestant confronts her unsupportive parents; two out of three finalists are determined.

New Voices Emerge in the Season Premiere of NBC’s THE SING OFF

I hope you warmed up those vocal chords because THE SING OFF came back to NBC in a big way tonight.  The three week a cappella contest pits ten of the country’s best all voice singing groups against one other for a $100,00 grand prize, a Sony Music recording contract and the  title of SING OFF champion.

Those of you who were around last winter for THE SING OFF’s first season know that I was all about my hometown boys, The Beelzebubs from Tufts University.  The Bubs came in second place but I don’t think they’re complaining. The group is now arranging the music and providing the backing vocals for the Dalton Academy Warblers on the hit Fox show GLEE.  So those guys backing up Blaine (Darren Criss) on ‘Teenage Dreams’ and ‘Hey Soul Sister’…yup, it’s the Bubs.

But it’s a new season with all new songsters. Tonight we met the ten groups representing season two and heard as each performed their signature number for the audience, host Nick Lachey and judges Ben Folds, Nicole Scherzinger and Shawn Stockman.

There were some good notes and some bad, but without a doubt there are some really talented groups this season. Here’s my take on each.

CASTLE’s Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic and Tamala Jones Talk ‘Last Call’

CASTLE is back!

Sure, it’s only been off the air a few weeks, but the short hiatus was still hard, no?

In tonight’s brand new episode, “Last Call,” a dead bar owner leads to the discovery of some Prohibition-era secrets and delves into the culture of modern day watering holes.

“[The episode is] kind of focused on the bar culture in New York City,” Stana Katic (Beckett) previewed. “It’s got a real CHEERS feel to it. I think people will enjoy that.”

TERRIERS Cancelled

Just as we’re celebrating the renewal of one quality cable TV favorite, we get the bad news that another cable standout is getting cancelled.

FX has announced that it will not be bringing the critically-acclaimed TERRIERS back for a second season.

All we have to say about that is BOO!!

Good television is good television and we were just getting into this one. Sometimes it takes a second year for audiences to find a show. We love you, FX, but we’re thinking you made the wrong call here.

RIP, TERRIERS…

DEXTER Renewed For Sixth Season

Well, this is certainly a good way to start off the week: Showtime has officially renewed DEXTER for a sixth season.

“DEXTER is the best suspense drama on television,” said David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks in a statement. “To grow its audience so significantly in its fifth season is an enormous accomplishment by this amazing cast and crew.  This is the easiest decision I’ve made since I got to Showtime.”

Production for the new season will begin in the spring.

Anyone else thrilled that our favorite serial killer isn’t going anywhere?
