FRINGE Recap: ‘Subject 13’

Tonight’s episode of FRINGE once again took us back to the 80s — this time to the aftermath of Peter’s kidnapping from “over there.” Six months after he was taken, the ramifications were still playing out in both universes and this look back allowed another layer of the mystery to be unraveled to reveal entanglements between our characters that had been previously hidden.

Unlike last year’s “Peter,” this episode was a total flashback, which meant no Anna Torv (Olivia), Joshua Jackson (Peter) or any of the other present day regulars aside from John Noble (Walter). While I certainly wouldn’t want this to be the norm, I didn’t really feel like they were missed for this episode. There is still so much left to explore from what happened when Peter and Olivia were kids and the work that Walter did back then that I was grateful we got to spend as much time as possible with their younger personas.

So let’s talk about what we learned in “Subject 13” and some questions the hour raised…

While other shows take delight in merely winking at their audience, whether it’s acknowledging an actor’s past work or delivering a message to the fans through dialogue, SUPERNATURAL has never been shy about knocking down that fourth wall and tap dancing all over it. It’s fantastic, really. Some of the best hours of television the show has produced has been their joyously meta episodes.

Comments Off on COMMUNITY Recap: ‘Intro to Political Science’

When dealing with politics, especially in times such as these, you are bound to run up against some archetypes. The dreamer, the schemer, that rather ridiculous person in the corner who came to the debate armed only with a catch-phrase and virtually nothing else (“POP POP!”).

It is often much the same when dealing with sitcoms. It is a genre constructed around certain prototypes that have been proven to sell. And the same could be said about COMMUNITY, to a certain degree. Except…not really.

Guess who’s ba-aack?

With Katherine freed from the tomb as a rather unfortunate side-effect of Elijah’s death, she’s camping out at the Salvatore mansion. She claims it’s for everyone’s benefit: supposedly she’s there to help them all in their attempts to kill Klaus and stop the sacrifice. As usual, however, she’s got some mind games to play along the way.

But can we trust her? Check out these previews and judge for yourself…
