SMALLVILLE Recap: 'Dominion' - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

SMALLVILLE Recap: ‘Dominion’

April 30, 2011 by

Another episode of SMALLVILLE aired last night and if you missed it, all I can say is Lois was awesome! Not to mention Clark and Ollie’s crazy slow motion fight scenes, and the return of Zod! Before I get ahead of myself and continue to gush about the final hours of SMALLVILLE, let me get back to what went down in Justin Hartley’s directorial debut!

Using Slade Wilson as bait, Zod manages to get an unaware Clark to the Phantom Zone. Tess is at the controls and Clark wants to do this alone, but Ollie manages to transport with him. With only a small window of time before the gate to the Zone is destroyed, the duo show up and are unexpectedly face-to-face with Zod. And not a Zod we’ve seen before: he’s the angry and relentless General Zod – SMALLVILLE style.

Played by Callum Blue (who rocks as Clark’s nemesis!), Zod is in cahoots with Darkseid and hopes to get Clark on their team. He also has power over the crystal after Clark previously healed him on earth with his blood. Calling CK his brother, Clark is powerless and must “kill or be killed” in a makeshift arena while Zod watches on.

With images of phantoms, shields, swords and warriors, Clark and Ollie end up going toe-to-toe after Zod tempts Ollie with promises of a great partnership if the infected Green Arrow joins his side. In a round of amazing fight scenes, things heat up as the two duke it out, with blood and sweat just whipping past the camera. At one point you really question if Ollie is still his good-natured self after he stabs Clark with a sword! And although you know they’ll somehow make it out of there — at least Clark will — you wonder how the showrunners will pull this off.

Meanwhile, things turn ugly back at Watchtower, where Lois has discovered Tess’ plans to blow up the gate in two hours, which would send Clark and Ollie into nothingness. Lois is completely unaware of Clark’s sacrifices, so she holds Tess up at gunpoint. She finally tells Lois that Clark is in on the planned destruction of the phantom zone. We’ve seen Lois go into soldier mode before — but never against one of their own. She’s not willing to accept defeat as the soon-to-be wife of a superhero.

After Zod stops the fight between an injured Clark and Ollie, the Green Arrow rips the crystal from Zod’s neck and transports them back to Metropolis! And while things finally come to an end for the story of Zod in SMALLVILLE, and they guys are home safe, Ollie’s infection is still on the front burner. He’s worried about Clark’s reaction if he were to discover that Ollie is infected with the dark mark. Setting up for next week we see Tess and Ollie secretly meet up on a mission to find the weapon that can destroy Darkseid.

Clark returns home, not realizing that he has been gone for three weeks and that Lois has been holding on to hope this whole time. Explaining that she had a heart-to-heart with Tess over the destruction of the phantom zone gate, Clark was ultimately saved by his future bride.

Another great episode, but I’m sure the best is being saved for the last. And as much as I don’t want to see it, because it’s officially the end, I can’t wait to get a glimpse of Chloe, Clark and Lois’ wedding, and of course Lex Luthor’s return!

What did you think SMALLVILLE fans? Ya or nay on this latest episode?
