SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: The Judges Talk Eliminations and All That Kissing

July 1, 2011 by

Was it just me, or did the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE judges have an extraordinary amount of fun this past week on the show?

“I think everyone enjoyed the show [Wednesday] night,” executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe said when I brought up the many kisses that occurred between the panelists after Melanie and Marko’s routine. “I’d much prefer it was a love fest than people shouting at each other. It was a lot of fun. I particularly enjoyed kissing Lil C, something I hadn’t ever done before.”

On a more serious note, Lythgoe did take a few minutes to chat about the eliminated dancers.

“I’ve always said I don’t think [Robert’s] dancing is anywhere near as strong as his personality,” he reiterated. “That’s just a fact of life with him. Dance is about technical ability and personality. Sometimes the technical side can outweigh the personality. With Robert, it’s the other way around. When it came to dancing tonight, I thought the other two boys were far better dancers. I thought the other two girls were dancing better than Ashley. But we then took into account Ashley’s work across the other shows, so we try and take everything in.”

And looking forward to what’s ahead, the guest judge slot will be filled next week by Carmen Electra, whom Lythgoe praised as “another gorgeous one with a terrific personality.”

What did the other judges (and guest judges!) think of this week’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE? Check out our video interviews with Mary Murphy, Lil C and Kristin Chenoweth (who also talks about her original music, new series and whether she’d write another book)…

I am a senior person who loves watching the show with my husband. The one thing we do not like is all the screaming in the audience. We feel it is inappropriate to scream during a beautiful ballet for example. It is also distracting to the dancers I would imagine. As Itzak Perlman said during one of his performances, Beehtoven called to say do not applaud after each movement, wait until I’m finished playing. I don’t mind but he does. The audience got the message and learned performance manners.

Hello, this is Daylee! I am a girl that wants to be able to see if us two can get the judges emails and talk to them about something. The reason is that we want to know when we can sign up and everything for that mumbo-jumbo. Anyways, I think that it should be okay to sign up. I have been dancing ever since I can remember. I one a dance competition last year and got fifty bucks. I was the one that choreographed the whole thing. It was so fun. I wish I could get an opportunity to do it again, but in front of a bigger audience.

Hello, This is Theresa! I have loved dance since I was a little girl, and my mom has taught me a lot. She taught me a few of her dance moves from the thirty dance competitions that she won. Almost every day I look up hard moves on the internet and accomplish them. I am not that flexible, but I still get told I have some great moves. Me and my friend Daylee will try our best to be on this show. It will be different to have younger people show a dance that 20 year olds’ would usually dance. 😀 This would be a great opportunity for both of us.

Thank you for taking the time to read this,
