FRINGE: J.H. Wyman, Jeff Pinkner and Akiva Goldsman Talk About the Two Universes. Plus, What Crazy Fan Theories Have They Heard About Season 4?

May 27, 2011 by

Remember when our biggest FRINGE concern was over which universe would survive? Good times. Now we have a main character who may no longer exist.

But once upon a time — okay, a few short weeks ago — one of the big questions of the series was which universe of the two would be the sole survivor. When I talked with FRINGE producers J.H. Wyman, Jeff Pinkner and Akiva Goldsman earlier in the season, they seemed to imply that there would only be one universe left standing when the battle came to an end. But given how the season ended, is that still the case?

Plus, given all of the speculation about FRINGE season 4, what is the craziest theory the producers have heard? And what do they think of LOST co-creator Damon Lindelof’s theory about next season?

Take a look…

These three guys are great, and the way they and Anna Torv and John Noble respect and value each other, fantastic.
Both paley events were a breath of fresh air, the way how Anna and John talked about Fringe from the pilot on, and how much they value the other actoors and everyone else in the show.

The only thing I am dissapointed in is that they have given Josh Jackson this much attention through this last episode with that ending, end that is not becuase of his flat acting but the line of the Observers.
Jackson has been so negative about the showrunners, even JJ Abrams and his co-star Anna Torv, he does not deserve the attention. The show is not about him.

I am far more interested in what will happen now between the two Walters and Olivias, how much will they be different, what will that mean for the two worlds, who will be mr. X, why is there still a Mr. X in season 4 endless possibilities, and no doubt brilliant performances from Anna Torv and John Noble.
Everyone is so impressed with Anna and John , their acting, their chemistry on and off screen , their genuine warm loving friendship.

“Jackson has been so negative about the showrunners, even JJ Abrams and his co-star Anna Torv, he does not deserve the attention. The show is not about him.”

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING?? Josh also respected the showrunners and Abrams and loves their work! He is 100% fan of this show. He’s so excited to work with them and the other actors every day! He has never been negative with them, Anna included! The fact that you were disappointed with the finale that was focused on Peter (you have to understand that he is a crucial character to the show and the mythology) and not your favourite charactes doesn’t allow you to talk nonsense about josh!

  3. asukar on May 28th, 2011 10:15 am

Don’t worry, jade86. The guest above is a know Torv-obsessed troll, also known as Torvite or Anto, who spews the same venom about Josh everywhere. It’s only now that this troll happens to like John Noble. Could be because he’s been praising Torv lately.

  4. Emily on May 28th, 2011 10:23 am

Well said. This is the same girl who goes on every fringe blog and spews the same spiel over and over. She hates Josh and John because she claims they took the spotlight away from Anna in season 1 and 2. Don’t know where she got that from. Plus she hates Josh because he had a profile before he came to Fringe and again he at times she thinks has taken the spotlight away from Anna. So, consequently she rubbishes him everytime and even makes stuff up about him and sees things in interviews that are not even there, to further her agenda.

She is so obsessed with Anna and only Anna/Olivia matters to her and she thinks the show should only be about her. She has also raved on about how Anna hasn’t got any love with regards to Awards etc, when Anna is the only one to have received an award. When people mention John, she says only Anna deserves it because she got mistreated in season 1 etc. You get the picture.

All of a sudden she loves John because he has been praising her, but before that she was rubbishing him too.

And it goes on. It’s really disturbing.

  5. FP on May 28th, 2011 10:59 am

It’s true that this girl is so obsessed with Anna Torv that what she says is an embarrassment, but what about the obsessed Josh/Peter fans that populate the Internet too? Wait, those are awesome because your bias doesn’t allow you to say the same about them. Both John Noble and Anna Torv said that the show is the star and they are so right, but there’s not a single place to go where we won’t find these petty wars between fangirls.

  6. Fine on May 28th, 2011 11:27 am

    agh!! Stupid AnTo is back!
one question about those obssessed people? are they robots? I mean I find them everywhere? they never give up!
2 people makes you feel like the whole webfans are obssessed with Anna or Josh but in fact they just change nickname and post then reply to themselves …. agh!! psychos!
@FP, Obssessed people are everywhere and not only fangirls, in fact there is a huge difference between fanGirls and Obssessed fans, don’t forget the fan boys as well! haha! but seriously those people do bug me a lot I find them everywhere!
there are an Obssessed Josh fans, nobody denies that, it just happend that today and here -or every day and everywhere- we were lucky enough to have this AnTo is a desperate/brainless Anna Torv lover. whenever he does not find his medication he runs bashing and assaulting everybody else.

  7. Fine on May 28th, 2011 11:30 am

sorry EDIT: to have this AnTo GIRL WHO is a desperate/brainless Anna Torv lover. whenever She does not find her medication she runs bashing and assaulting everybody else.

  8. Emily on May 28th, 2011 11:39 am

FP, I only know of one obsessed troll for Josh and one obsessed troll for Anna. Both are as bad as each other, in that they bash the other actors on the show and go around saying crummy things about them that are not true, simply because the characters/actors are not getting the recognition/respect that they think they should be getting.

That’s the problem that people have with them. They post everywhere using different names and it’s the same stuff over and over. People defend the actors because the lies they put forward aren’t true.

There is a difference between obsessed fans and fangirls/fanboys. These two are in the obsessed fan/trolls category, unfortunately.

  9. Fine on May 28th, 2011 1:49 pm

    @Emily
Oh! yeah I also know two Obssessed people one about Anna the other about Josh. Both annoying and unbearable.

  10. guest on May 31st, 2011 6:36 am

To the commenters above: read your own posts, and see who is the obsessed one, just the way you react says it all.

I am posting at this site to make a fair comment about the behaviour of Josh Jackson this season, I do not post elsewhere. perhaps someone else has the same conclusion. I have read other boards, TWOP almost completely ignores Anna Torv or put her down and just drools over Josh Jackson, I noticed that the few posters in favour of Anna have left because of that.
There are many boards that are just filled with Josh Jackson fans, and abusing Anna is their favourite occupation, all because of statements by Josh in the media.

And really comparing my comments to those made by Jackson fans is insulting. I do not abuse and call names, I do not bash and insult or worse.

There are many more Fringe fans who find his commenting annoying.

I am not the only one who praises Anna Torv for her acting, I am glad to say, and both Anna Torv and John Noble deserve the attention, not just because of their acting but also because of their attitude, modesty, great care for each other and everyone else involved on Fringe.

  11. rayray on May 31st, 2011 8:06 am

Grow up guest. Not everyone is obligated to like Anna torv and those people who like josh Jackson are ENTITLED to like him. Who are you to tell anyone who they can or cannot like? BTW, why should it matter if people like Anna or not?

  12. rayray on May 31st, 2011 8:14 am

Care to explain what comments josh had made about Anna besides not liking peter and olivia together ROMANTICALLY? Oh BTW, its not like I recall Anna saying anything about josh either. I say you are very paranoid and is just looking for trouble and pissing off the josh and Anna fans with your utter bashing of josh all due to your annoying crush on Anna torv.

  13. Vinicius Passos on May 31st, 2011 8:50 pm

Only one universe has survived, and it was Over Here. But Peter “rewinded” the story to a point when both universes were still stand and changed everything.

  14. luis ramirez on May 31st, 2011 9:03 pm

I remember the producers saying the show was once going to be only focused on WALTER 😀 so no olivia is not the main character in the producers minds

  15. RkyMtGirl on May 31st, 2011 9:07 pm

Wow, some people get really intense about their shows :). I, personally, love the entire cast. My son introduced me to Fringe and at first I told him I wouldn’t like it, but I watched every single episode and fell in love with the writing and the acting. Yes, I love Ana. I also love Josh, John, Lance and Jasika. I am waiting rather impatiently for the season premier!!

  16. Cindy on May 31st, 2011 9:15 pm

People! This a TV show with a cast and characters and storyline. Of course, we all have our favorites but the shows works because of the chemistry between the cast members and the creativity of the writers and directors. We should come together to keep the show alive instead of sabataging and backstabbing! Jeesh!

  17. Giobbistar21 on May 31st, 2011 9:42 pm

I’m a fan of all the characters. I know for a fact that Jackson,Noble, and torv love the show. In regards to the guest, Anna Torv got most of the attention season 1, Noble got season 2 and Jackson got season 3. Does this mean that Jasika Nicole will get season 4? The fact of the matter is you have to diversify the show or risk having a one dimensional (no pun intended) perspective. I like it this way, and I do hope Peter returns by the season 4 premiere.

  18. Matt on May 31st, 2011 10:10 pm

    Here is my theory:
The worm-hole in 2026 Central Park to the Permian has been used to create alternate time-line(s). These time-lines are kept as close to the original as possible via occasional corrections made by the Observers. The alternate timelines are being used to develop a method of saving the original timeline using a machine invented by Walter. Peter (who never existed in the original timeline) was added as the variable. He was created to be the instrument of saving the universe(s) .

The 2026 (or later) Walter invented the machine to be able to manipulate and destroy Walternate’s universe. In one of the alternate timelines Peter did destroy that alternate timeline’s Walternate universe. But destroying Walternate’s universe eventually led to the destruction of Walter’s universe.

When, in an alternate timeline, a method of saving the two universes appeared to be promising, it was applied to the original. When Peter used the machine to build the bridge, the Observers knew both universes had to be saved for either to survive and felt this was the best hope for saving them. They then forked Peter and the bridge to the original timeline. Since Peter had never existed in the original timeline, he disappeared.

Wow. In reality, Josh Jackson is both too professional, and too nice, to say bad things about (well, anyone really—he is Canadian, after all!)–about the rest of the actors on Fringe, or the writers & crew. He is very appreciative, very supporting of the show and all involved in it. In their most recent interview, the producers said how smart he was and what an asset, when writing the season finale.

Sounds like a certain fan could benefit from some Brown Betty…

  20. Vistar on June 1st, 2011 4:55 am

I am a fan of the show. I love the writer’s twist and turns. Love the way it makes people actually think for a change instead of feeding them a story, start to finish and “telling” them the endings before the end so they think they’re clever. It’s great as I’m tired of formula tv.

I find myself turning the information that I do have, around in my head to try to figure out what is next. If Peter didn’t exist, what about the baby? Is Peter responsible for the Observers? The two Olivia’s become best friends? Both Walters combine to give Massive Dynamic incredible discoveries? Trade between two Universes – who is the ambassador?

Plenty to think about rather than focus in on one specific….

All the actors are terrific BTW.

  21. Blhue on June 1st, 2011 9:18 pm

I love Fringe; even when what’s happening is not to my liking… it is MUST viewing and when I find a ‘rerun’ I watch it again… surprising what one can miss/overlook!!

And, I love the cow… must be my farm upbringing… here’s to more FRINGE; coming soon… when does the next segment/season start???

PS: All the actors and their characters are AWESOME…

  22. SurgaTV on June 2nd, 2011 1:40 pm

the show enjoys a symbiotic relationship between its characters. the sum of the whole is far greater than each individual component. some are more principle characters than others, but you need every last one of them to make Fringe. Would the show be the same if Astrid wasnt there, or if even the cow was removed? Wayne Gretzky was an amazing Oiler, but he wouldnt have won the Cup without the rest of them team

  23. Emily on June 6th, 2011 3:56 am

Why are you bashing us guest? Your the one that goes on every site possible and has a go at John and Josh because you think Anna is not getting the attention she deserves. Everybody knows it’s you because you say the same thing over and over. We are not obsessed, you are. You are the one that goes on rants everywhere and we are responding to you.

Again, you are showing your delusional attitude towards the Anna love. Anna is loved everywhere (that’s all sites), but people are entitled to like who they want. Whether it be John, Josh, Anna, Lance and any of the others. So, don’t get mad at people for liking who they want to like. It’s a tv show and the show is an ensemble cast. It’s not the Anna show (like you want it to be) and people watch the show for different reasons. So, don’t bash people for liking who they want to like. The show would not be Fringe without all of the characters.

I go to TWOP and nobody bashes Anna there, so I don’t know where you get that from. Everybody loves her there. You seem to be confusing Anna with Olivia I think. OLivia is the character and being a tv character, viewers may not always be happy with what that character is doing. I’ve seen comments on Olivia but never Anna. So, I think you have it mixed up. If I recall, alot of viewers weren’t happy with Peter either, this season.

As for the Josh stuff, what the others have said. He loves the show, the cast and the writers. He got ridiculed by some sites for going out and actively asking viewers to watch the show live. He took it upon himself to ring back a radio station twice, to keep the talk about Fringe continuing on that show.

This show isn’t just about Anna Torv either, or Josh or John. It’s about the whole cast and they each take turns with the storyline. Olivia got the ending for the season finale in season 2, and Peter for season 3. They all take turns. Anna got given an actors dream this season with all the different versions of characters she got to play, as well as a whole season of awesome material to act with and your complaining because Josh’s character got the final episode. Sheesh. That’s just crazy.

Not only can it be much more likely for you
to quit altogether from frustration if you begin with excessive too early, nevertheless, you could injure yourself jumping
into activities you have not prepared for an extended time.
Or for anyone that like to adopt their jogging more seriously, it is
