Seth Gabel added to FRINGE’s Comic-Con Panel! But is Joshua Jackson Attending, Too?

July 20, 2011 by

Guess who was just added to the FRINGE panel at Comic-Con?

Warner Bros. has confirmed to Give Me My Remote that newly minted series regular Seth Gabel (Lincoln) has been added to Saturday’s panel, which already includes series stars Anna Torv (Olivia), John Noble (Walter), Lance Reddick (Broyles), Blair Brown (Nina) and Jasika Nicole (Astrid), plus executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman.

So what about Joshua Jackson (Peter)? Will he be appearing on the panel with his costars?

Contrary to other reports, the studio says Jackson is not currently confirmed to appear at Comic-Con. (Wait, does that mean there’s a chance we won’t be getting Pacey-Con 2?! Boo!) However, that shouldn’t keep you from checking out FRINGE’s panel this Saturday from 4:30-5:15 in Ballroom 20!

How many FRINGE fans will I be seeing there?

I’m really not very happy about all this coyness about Jackson’s status with the show.

My formerly white-hot enthusiasm for Fringe is starting to turn into merely relaxed curiosity.

What are the panelists going to talk about? We can’t talk about last season, since all that was wiped out of existence (and relevance?) And we can’t talk about what’s coming up, because nobody has any idea whatsoever what is going on. (And I doubt anyone will be allowed to ask questions about Peter or Josh.)

Is there some kind of contract dispute going on? Why would they do this with one of the characters we love? Can’t someone in the TV community get to the bottom of this strangeness?

@???? why should Josh participate in a panel where I am sure people will pick on him over stupid Olivia.

  3. asukar on July 20th, 2011 12:31 pm

What is going on here? Just like the first post, I’m starting to wonder if there is some kind of dispute. Or even if they have something against Josh Jackson. First they reduced his character to complete irrelevance and now this? I don’t know if they’re just playing with the fans, but at this point, whether he goes or not, they’re giving a terrible impression.

I am actually starting to find this ridiculous level of secrecy rather insulting. Obviously, they don’t owe us anything but heck I even sent FOX some redvines in the hope of getting a season 4 and now the show has decided to go the dumbass Lost route by being monosyllabic and trying to be all mysterious. My issue with it is that they never used to be like this, they were open and forthcoming with info about the season ahead and the story ahead and now, nothing. You don’t maintain a fanbase that way. Bring back the showrunners I remember that actually let the fans in on what was happening in FRINGE and not answering every question with a question or keeping Josh jackson off the cast list as though he weren’t attending Comic Con when he clearly is. The inherent problem with so much secrecy means that when the season is over and done with people will be like ‘Huh?- all that hush, hush for this?’

  5. ???? on July 20th, 2011 12:59 pm

I don’t mind some secrecy about upcoming plotlines – who wants to know everything? – but, showrunners are PUSHING IT when they concoct a plotline where a beloved character DISAPPEARS COMPLETELY into apparent irrelevance. And then the actor who plays him, doesn’t show up at events and genuinely doesn’t seem to know what’s happening (has anyone read interviews with the stars lately? They seem just as upset and in the dark as fans). There is a line between intriguing your fans, and confusing them so badly that all they can do is wonder what is going on behind the scenes, rather than speculating about future plotlines. And when that happens, all sorts of ideas cross the fans’ minds (and rightly so).

Oh, and Seth Gabel. I love him. But what are fans supposed to think when they hear he’s become a regular… and that Josh’s status seems up in the air? Sadly, if Josh’s screen time is cut back (AGAIN) I fear Seth will be the subject of a fan backlash.

This could all be as innocent as Josh having prior commitments, but come on showrunners, I consider myself a real adventurous viewer but you simply left us all dangling with a big scary black hole all summer. Not cool. Not FAIR.

Josh’s status with the show is not in question. (And the EPs have joked the storyline isn’t a contract negotiation/dispute: https://www.givememyremote.com/remote/2011/05/20/fringe-jeff-pinkner-j-h-wyman-and-akiva-goldsman-talk-about-peters-disappearance/) The only thing in question here is whether he is at Comic-Con, which, as of now, Warner Bros. says he’s not confirmed for.

  7. Part1234 on July 20th, 2011 1:11 pm

I say Anna Torv has something to do with this. If you didn’t notice, I don’t see her being all concerned about Josh possibly having his job questioned, all she cares about is how she will get to play another version of her character.

  8. Part1234 on July 20th, 2011 1:11 pm

At least John Noble cares when he tried calling Josh to find out what’s up.

  9. Part1234 on July 20th, 2011 1:15 pm

Marisa Roffman, if that’s true then where is the reassurance? Where is the “Josh is a valuable asset to the show and we will do our best to bring him in?” but no, all we get is, “Josh still has a contract”. THAT’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

They are so quick to praise Seth gabel about what a great asset he will be but do the writers ever say that about Josh? NO THEY DO NOT.

    Josh deserves better.

Last year at this time, Comic-Con time, we the audience already had a vague sense of what Season 3 was going to be like. We understood the possibilities and the premise. And I think most people were excited.

This year, the showrunners have left us with nothing to speculate off of. I mean, everything over the past 3 years has been wiped out. Forgive fans for feeling like they’re part of a weird, possibly cruel experiment by a couple of mad scientists (who seemed nice enough, like Walter…)

All this is to say, that the reason why fans are going crazy with wild speculation that is about the show itself (the production part), is because the showrunners left us with very little else to go on. Josh’s absence from Comic-Con is not a small matter adding fuel to that fire.

  11. guest on July 20th, 2011 4:37 pm

To part1234: Anna Torv has nothing to do with this, the way some Josh Jackson fans insult and abuse Anna is getting out of hand.

Anna Torv knows just as little of what is going to happen as Josh Jackson. Just watch the interviews with Marissa and the ones she did in june. The showrunners never inform the actors, they usually get the script 3 days before shooting.
In every interview Anna Torv has done during her promotion in Europe, in her vacation time, she has been talking about Josh, always in a positive way, which I still have to hear from Josh about Anna.

If she is being asked, also by Marissa to specualte about season 4 what will happen to her character in season 4 WITHOUT Peter , then it is normal that she does talk about other storylines and possibilities. If I recall correctly Josh Jackson hated the Olivia Peter storyline, and he thought the final was genius for erasing that storyline to never revisit again.

So far I am more bothered by the amount of attention Josh Jackson is getting, first because of the final, then because he had to be excused at Paley because of a film and walking red carpets, then in every interview Anna Torv has done promoting Fringe she was asked about Josh, and also John Noble who had to answer questons why he will not be at Comic Con.

They have made Peter special , no reason to do the same with Josh Jackson.

At Comic Con there were 5 and now are 6 wonderful actors, Anna Torv, Blair Brown, Jasika Nicole, John Noble, Lance Reddick, Seth Gabel. I do not think there are many other panels where so many actors of the main cast are present.

Last year I was on pins and needles waiting for Comic Con and the beginning of Fringe season 3. This year, I couldn’t care less about Comic Con without Joshua Jackson, and my enthusiasm for season four has been reduced to one question: Will Peter (Josh Jackson) be back quickly? If not, I’ll cease to exist as a viewer. I think the the producers took this tease too far. Instead of creating intrigue, they’ve alienated many of their fans.

  13. partqw on July 20th, 2011 5:28 pm

Oh here we again, why don’t you ever SHUT UP ANTO?

  14. partqw on July 20th, 2011 5:32 pm

Btw, ANTO, you are the most annoying, rude, arrogant, idiotic Anna torv fan I have ever been in contact with. You act like EVERYONE is only supposed to love Anna torv and Anna torv only . I don’t like you and you make me hate Anna torv more and more.

  15. partqw on July 20th, 2011 5:45 pm

Btw, guest, who the hell are you to say how people insult Anna when you have done NOTHING BUT INSULT JOSH OVER SHIT HE DIDNT EVEN DO?

I used to be tolerable of Anna but people like you ruin it and somebody needs to shut you up cause YOU ARE ANNOYING AS HELL!

  16. Emily on July 20th, 2011 5:58 pm

Good to see that Anto is still spouting the same stuff. Things never change.

Not happy at all to hear what’s going on at comicon. It’s really unprofessional and me like alot of other people are just sick and tired of the little stunts that Pinkner and Wyman are pulling at the moment.

Josh is a part of the show like all of the other cast members that are going to be there and I think he should be there in some capacity. The fact that he isn’t is awful. I’m losing interest in the show by the day now.

  17. Queg on July 20th, 2011 6:32 pm

Looks like the TWOP crazies are out in force. (see the usuals above)

  18. HELL on July 20th, 2011 6:42 pm

    hey!
about what the showrunners are doing in comiccon; If this is a game, it is guetting sick. If this is a joke it’s getting really ANTO-annoying.
I don’t hate Seth, but they seem to over praise him and terribly reduce Josh. I m a Josh fan, and I never complained about the poor screen time he was given, and the weird triangle and all that reduced his character. But now it’s getting rediculous, they’re litterally giving Seth josh’s place on a plate of gold. I was always wondering about the reason the showrunners avoid talking about Josh and keep praising Seth as if he was a miracle. which I don’t find impressive at all. But if it turns out to be because they’re actually planning on giving Lincoln Peter’s place, I’m out. Josh’s fans also deserve to feel what John, Anna, and now Seth fans are feeling. wether it’s a game to surprise us with a peter return or not, it’s really played in a rather rediculous and annoying way.

  19. Donna on July 20th, 2011 7:05 pm

I guess I just don’t understand what the showrunners could possibly be thinking. Are we supposed to be excited by the prospect of not seeing one of our 3 fave characters on screen at all? I think much of the above “discussion” is deeply immature, but really, any rational fan has to wonder – why is it always Joshua Jackson who gets shunted off the screen for these storylines? You know, I liked the dual world stuff last season but I also really hated Jackson’s lack of screen time. Now we’re not gonna see him… at ALL? I, too, have to wonder what is going on here. I have no clue.

  20. Milly on July 20th, 2011 7:42 pm

Queg, why are you having ago at TWOP? None of the above people are from TWOP. So, can we get our facts straight and not insult the wrong posters.

    Thanks.

  21. Queg on July 21st, 2011 4:26 am

emily is from twop, her posts sound exactly the same on twitter, twop and everywhere else she peddles that nonsense.

  22. asukar on July 21st, 2011 5:55 am

Trying to spot emily’s supposed nonsense. No luck. Care to enlighten us, Queg?

  23. Emily on July 21st, 2011 8:48 am

Queg, I hate to tell you but I don’t post at TWOP. I read what they have to say on occasion, that’s why I’m familiar with the posters and how they post, etc, like alot of other people. You seem to be confusing me with someone else. It’s not like there are not other people, saying the same things I am saying. I don’t post on twitter either.
