CASTLE Season 4 Premiere: ‘Rise’ You Ask, I Answer

September 7, 2011 by

We’ve got less than two weeks until the fourth season of CASTLE finally debuts …and, um, I’ve already seen the premiere.

(Please don’t kill me.)

The good news for you?

I answered some burning fan questions about the hour, so hopefully that will make the wait a little less painful and it will give you all some things to ponder while you wait for “Rise.”

Take a look…

What will the die-hard fans who did *not* like the finale (too dark, contrived, etc.) be able to enjoy about the premiere? – @TweetieSweetie4 via Twitter
I actually adored the finale, so I can’t speak with complete authority on what people who didn’t like the hour will enjoy about the premiere.

However, with that being said, I think there is a good, realistic balance for this episode. If you’re looking for humor, there is quite a bit in the episode, mostly at the most unexpected times. What happened in the finale isn’t dismissed and swept under a rug, but things are depressingly sad the entire hour, either. But as a warning, while there is a stand-alone case of the week, there is no doubt that most of the personal arcs in the season premiere are a continuation of the events that occurred in the finale.

Why was Castle’s daughter so angry in the promo clip? – @Kayy_85 via Twitter
Note to all characters on CASTLE: Don’t mess with Alexis. If you mess with her father, she will come after you. And if she thinks her father is doing something foolish, she’ll come after him, too.

Ooh – I’ll play! Did you enjoy it? Will the Castle/Beckett shipper fans survive the episode without being too frustrated? – @awayigo via Twitter
I did enjoy it! Whenever a show has a great finale, the pressure is on for the premiere to live up to it. “Rise” doesn’t have the same exact kind of dramatic intensity that “Knockout” had, but that’s a good thing. There are certain elements of the hour I’m practically crawling out of my skin to talk to you guys about, so I figure that’s a pretty good sign the episode hooked me.

As for what the Castle and Beckett shippers will think — it’s a rollercoaster for them. There are moments fans will absolutely adore (and I imagine will be rewound repeatedly) and others…not so much. Hopefully the good moments outweigh the frustration that will occur from other scenes.

Will we see Castle next to Beckett’s hospital bed? – @anadxof via Twitter
Castle does spend some time with Beckett in the hospital post-surgery and I have to say, Nathan Fillion’s acting in the scene was particularly impressive.

Do you know what are Beckett and Castle talking about in the swing scene? – @McMarty89 via Twitter
While I really don’t want to ruin that conversation, is it weird to say I felt proud of a fictional character? One of the two admits something about themselves that is pretty key to understanding their mindset and behavior. (Vague, I know. But it will be better if that particular nugget isn’t ruined.)

My main question is: Will the season premiere be the last episode for Beckett’s boyfriend Josh? – @Lentemorgen via Twitter
Poor Josh. If you ignore the fact that he’s crazy about Beckett, he — and specifically his chosen profession — does have some use, especially in the premiere. As for their current status: you’ll get the latest on their relationship in the premiere.

Will there be more Esposito and Ryan? – @JuJuAlmal via Twitter
With Beckett still trying to regain her footing at work, Ryan and Esposito get to take over a little bit in terms of investigating the “case of the week.” It’s fun to see them doing their thing and attempting to help Beckett…all while being a bit terrified of the new captain.

Is Castle’s guilt about reopening Beckett’s mom’s case in the first place going to carry with him all season? I assume Montgomery sent the mysterious files to Castle, will we see some resolution on who received those files? If it is indeed Castle, I can see his guilty conscience grow if he is to hide those files from Beckett. – Cheryl via email
You’ll find out what Castle feels guilty about almost immediately — and he’s not the only one who is assigning blame for what went down.

Oh and those mysterious files? That storyline is not dropped. Who gets them and what they do with them is very important and not confined to just one episode.

Did that help at all?

Not sure if it helped, but if you liked it I’m relatively sure that I’m gonna like it too, so that was nice to know.
But the wait is sooooo long.

Glad to know you liked it. With so many problematic things from last season, I was getting worried.

Thank you for answering the questions! I’m feverishly reading every bit of Castle news out there to survive through this wait. So jealous you already got to see the premiere. It sounds like an awesome episode, and even though not everything will be resolves (obviously), I have a feeling I’ll still be hooked!!
