Fox President Kevin Reilly Talks About the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Changes

January 8, 2012 by

SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE fans were thrown for a loop when executive producer Nigel Lythgoe broke the news that the results show was being canceled. Now, Fox’s President of Entertainment, Kevin Reilly is speaking out — kind of — about the decision.

“We’re rejiggering the format on [SO YOU THINK YOU CAN] DANCE and already we have people saying, ‘How is that going to work?'” Reilly said during his executive session. “We just thought creatively — I think it’s a nice change of format for [SYTYCD]…we want to get a few more shows on in the summer,”

After his session, I questioned if there was any concern on his end, given that SYTYCD is one of the few shows where the results show truly matters.

“I think the fans are going to end up liking it,” Reilly said. “Some of the purists may say, ‘Oh, I wanted a dedicated night,’ but I think it’s going to make the show itself more exciting. I think it’s going to be a fun experiment. I know the producers are excited about it. I think the fans are going to like it.”

What do you guys think? Are you willing to give the new format a chance?
