FRINGE: ‘Back To Where You’ve Never Been’ You Ask, I Answer

January 7, 2012 by

FRINGE fans, you may want to thank the weather gods for having the World Series pre-empt the show (and therefore pushing the planned fall finale to this Friday), because believe it or not, that “Wallflower” cliffhanger was kinder to be in suspense about for a month and a half than “Back to Where You’ve Never Been” would have been.

I had the opportunity to screen “Back to Where You’ve Never Been” earlier today, and to celebrate the eighth episode, I’m answering five of your questions and giving you three of my own teases.

Keep reading for more!

Will we get any good Peter/Olivia scenes? – @_overthere via Twitter

Peter shares scenes with more than one version of Olivia in “Back to Where You’ve Never Been,” and there are certainly interesting aspects to every one of them. However, there is one teeny throwaway line of dialogue in the episode about Peter’s thoughts about one of the Olivias that stuck out to me. I can’t wait to dissect it with you in this week’s recap.

Is that Walter’s old crossing portal we see in the previews? – @FringeBinge2011 via Twitter

It is! A few of our characters use it (and a familiar location) to cross over to the altverse, where a large portion of the episode is set.

Will we see shirtless Frank again? A duel with him & Lincoln? LOL – @Lola4Fringe via Twitter

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there’s no Frank (shirtless or otherwise clothed) when we check in with the altverse. It is a pretty big hour for Seth Gabel’s Lincolns, as the duo come face-to-face for the first time. And let’s just say they aren’t meeting under the best circumstances.

Without telling names, is anyone going to die on Fringe’s next episode? – @iwontfakeit via Twitter

At least one character we know is gravely injured before the hour ends. (No, I’m not counting a one-off guest star. A few of those didn’t end up so hot, either.)

Do you know if any of the characters will remember Peter and if so when? – @Kayy_85 via Twitter

As far as remembering Peter and their history with him, that would be a bit tricky since Peter still needs to find a way to return to “his” timeline. An unexpected person does recognize Peter, though…

And now my teases…

Thanks Marissa! You always do great Fringe previews.

Hoping this episode will appease some of the fans who have been getting antsy for the pace to pick up. Also hoping Peter gets to come to the fore more, as it sounds like it does from your preview, to also appease the Peter fans who have been lamenting his lack of screen time this season.

So glad the Friday Fringe Famine is over!

I soo cannot wait especially after what you shared.
Spread the word to watch live!!
    Fringe Rocks!

    Marissa,
how would you rank the episode?

  4. Zepp on January 8th, 2012 12:08 pm

Thank you, Marisa, for this opportunity of being able to question it and to hear their opinions about what might come around in Fringe. I have two questions for you:

Peter is now inserted in a world that never knew him, but because of their knowledge of the past, he quickly adapts to this new context. Do not you think that Peter will become a kind of leader, a reference point, main Fringe team from now on?

And Nina Sharp? The universes change, but it remains the same mysterious figure, ever. You also do not think, Marisa, she will be a more important character, most notably in the representation of a supposed “dark side”, which operates in the universe – now others – Fringe, from now on?

    Thanks.

I think everyone has forgotten that when Bell pulled Olivia into the alt. universe at the end of season 1, he told her that he has seen history repeat itself enough to know that a war is coming & that she was the only one strong enough to stop it & that she will need Peter by her side so they were already preparing us for this. Bell didn’t say he had seen it once before he said enough to know…so I believe that it will come out that this has happened already so many times that it is full circling back around to get it right. And I also believe that’s why Peter & Olivia did not recognize each other from when they were kids….GOD DO I LOVE THIS AMAZINGLY UNPREDICTABLE BRILLIANT SHOW!!!!!! I say take off ALL of the reality shows if need be just to keep Fringe on TV forever!!!

  6. Jennifer on January 8th, 2012 2:39 pm

I forgot to also remind everyone of the bright yellow lights that continued to flash between her & Bell during that talk & also Nina sent her to see Sam Weiss & the first question he asked her was have the headaches started…..Nina giving her injections that cause migraines…..hmmmmm

That is bull! We were SUPPOSED to be thinking about 4×08 for 2 months!

  8. Zepp on January 8th, 2012 3:41 pm

Excuse me, but I have two more questions for you, Marisa.

With this approach evident, with the romantic, loving, between Lincoln and Olivia, do not you think Marisa, that Peter could somehow start a loving approach, with Bolivia? A probable future of a “non-existent” baby Henry, could, in terms, to be depending, of these encounters and passionate relationships on Fringe?

I personally consider the shapeshifters 2.0, one of the highlights of science fiction in Fringe, no doubt. What do you think they would be a para-military group, treasury stock, for purposes unique to their needs and beliefs, or they would be a militia led by Walternate, for example?

    Thanks.

  9. Zepp on January 8th, 2012 3:59 pm

Please excuse me for my poor English. In the second question, which reads:”…, treasury stock”, please read: “…,with own shares”!

    Thanks.

I have always wondered about Charlie dying in season 1, then a few episodes later he is back ~ alive ~ and nothing is ever done to explain his 1 show return that was as if he had never died. It made me think there was going to be a timeline aspect introduced later on and it’s finally happened, the writers will stun us with another fantastic twist very soon I’m sure.

Absolutely the best show I have ever watched.

  13. Jennifer on January 8th, 2012 5:15 pm

TG…..Charlie did not die in S1 he died at the beginning of S2 when the shapeshifter took over the nurse’s body & was after Olivia in the hospital, Charlie chased after it & it took over Charlie & killed him & then the shapeshifter had to maintain Charlie’s body because his machine was broke & thought it would get more answers from Olivia since he had been her partner & he did just that before she killed him.
Also, if in fact this is the last season..God that makes me sick to even imagine a world without Fringe, I hope we don’t find out its all been a dream & the reason I say this is because remember back in S2 when Peter & Olivia were in Seattle on the case with the Dr that was stealing dreams, Peter told Olivia in the hotel that night that when he was 8, Walter told him to say something 3 times before going to sleep every night & Peter touched his temple & counted 3 times as he sd it to Olivia & the next day in that Dr’s office there was a poster of a woman pictured as doing the same thing as Peter did & that device would steal your dreams so you wouldn’t remember anything & Peter sd he didn’t dream from 8-19 & I think that is also why he forgot what Walter had done & also why he didn’t remember Olivia when they were young.

sooo glad Fringe is finally back. Peter will play a bigger role in the next few episodes he is missed. Last season??? isn’t it bad enough Chuck is over for good this time?! so much crap on TV why do they always cancel the good shows

  15. Jennifer on January 8th, 2012 6:09 pm

I think we will find out that S2 Dream Logic episode will somehow come in to play in the end & find out that is why no one remembers him.

I love fringe i don’t want it to end i would like it to have at least 1-2 more seasons!! How do i vote for fringe to stay on fox or can’t you? lol

    I LOVE FRINGE!!

  17. Shawn on January 9th, 2012 8:38 pm

TG… I believe that confusion you are experiencing is because Charlie did die in the 2nd Season Premiere (Ep. 201)at the hands of the Shapeshifter and then later Shapeshifter Charlie dies in Ep. 204.

However mid-way through the 2nd season they aired an “Unaired/Lost” 1st Season episode as a Special episode at a Special Date (The Monday before the Winter Hiatus Premiere according to fringepedia.net). It is appropriately titled “Unearthed” as it was unearthed from the Fringe vaults. Because it was a Season 1 story, Charlie was still alive. Not to say that it couldn’t be an alternate universe, but until I see I evidence otherwise I’m sticking with it being from the 1st season.

I bet the unexpected person the reconize Peter will be David Robert Jones when he returns. I am super excited for this friday!
