THE BIG BANG THEORY: Bill Prady and Steve Molaro Tease ‘The Shiny Trinket Maneuver’

January 12, 2012 by

THE BIG BANG THEORY returns tonight for its first episode of 2012, and co-creator Bill Prady has an interesting tease for what happens: “Sheldon will be a better boyfriend.”

Um, Sheldon? Our Sheldon? True, his being a better boyfriend could constitute him doing nearly anything for Amy, but…really?

“I don’t know if he does,” executive producer Steve Molaro clarified. “But he attempts to learn it.”

“Sheldon learns to how to pretend to be a better boyfriend,” Prady laughed. “I think that’s the moral — we feel this episode will educate the men of the world of the shortcuts to appearing to be a better and more caring man.”

Does that mean the infamous relationship agreement will be modified in any way?

“Heavens, no,”  Molaro said. “That would be a whole ordeal.”

“As I understand it — and I have not read the full agreement, I’ve read an abstract of the relationship agreement prepared by an attorney — as I understand it, to make substantial changes to the relationship agreement would involve the convening of a relationship convention,” Prady joked. “A pretty great ordeal. So there will be no changes as a result..But like the constitution, it is ever present, underlying all our actions. All their actions.”

If you were looking for more details on Sheldon and Amy’s unconventional romance, you’ll also get some of that, too.

“On their ‘date,’ they refer to the minutes of their previous date,” Molaro teased.

“We learn they have a date night,” Prady explained. “We learn they have a date night and it happens fairly infrequently –”

“The first Thursday of every month, or the third Thursday in a month that has five Thursdays,” interjected Molaro.

“And we learn that the date begins by voting to accept the minutes of the previous date,” Prady laughed. “So we learn the dates are conducted vaguely by Robert’s Rules of Order.”

I mean…would you expect anything different?

THE BIG BANG THEORY returns tonight at 8 PM on CBS.
