CHUCK Recap: ‘Chuck vs.The Bullet Train’

January 21, 2012 by

THE MISSION – Sarah (newly intersected) and Casey set out to rescue Chuck from a bullet train in Japan. He’s being held by Nicholas Quinn, one of the most nefarious villains to appear on the show ever! He’s really, really bad! As bad as Shaw!

Using the intersect implanted in Sarah, the team seems to have captured Quinn but all manner of things go awry. Meanwhile, Morgan, Alex, Devon and Ellie are working feverishly back in Castle to find a way to suppress Sarah’s intersect before it can damage her brain irreversibly. Quinn’s minions capture Alex and hold her as a hostage.

Quinn uses Alex to force Casey into capturing Chuck and Sarah, but not before they join the rail version of the mile high club and spend time dreaming of the little white house with red shutters and a picket fence.  They believe they are so close to exiting the spy life that they can taste it. They are so wrong!

When Morgan and Devon fail to rescue Alex (after getting caught themselves), it falls to Jeff and Lester to do the deed, being directed by Casey over the ear bud com system.

Back on the bullet train, Sarah attacks Quinn in order to save her husband…only to be tranq’ed.  Quinn uncouples the last train car, separating Chuck and Sarah. He takes her back to California where he uses intersect flash cards to virtually wipe her memory of the last five years.

The last scene of the episode has Sarah waking up in her hotel room in Santa Monica (where she lived before she moved in with Chuck in Echo Park), and Quinn posing as her handler. He gives her her next assignment: kill Chuck Bartowski!

MISSION ANALYSIS – Yikes! Now we know why episode 12 is called “Chuck vs. Sarah!”

This episode was a fast and furious ride, just like the bullet train itself. Not much in the way of humor tonight, but Jeff and Lester are finally brought into the spy life, proving that they were right all along. (Remember Jeff scrawling CIA on a piece of paper several seasons ago?) The set up for next week’s episode was mind-blowing. Will Sarah recover her memory in time to abort the kill mission ordered on Chuck? Will Chuck be able to save Sarah? Will Jeff and Lester sing one last song? We’ve watched for five years and now we’re down to the end. If it’s done with the usual panache and style that Schwartz and Fedak have used at the conclusion of each previous season, there will be twist and turns aplenty.  Order up your tunaroni sandwich from Subway and get ready for the series finale, because here it comes.  VIVA BUYMORIA!

POINTS TO PONDER

“Canada?” -Lester

“What does deleterious mean?” – Morgan

YOUR INPUT – What did you think of this episode?  How do you think it will all end?

I’m thinking we’ve got a case of ’50 First Dates’ here! Sarah will have to learn to relove Chuck! 🙁

It’s obviously that there are two possible endings… 1. Sarah regains her memories, 2. Sarah doesn’t, but reloves Chuck… IMHO… I’d hate the second Scenerio…
