GOSSIP GIRL 100th Episode Preview: Josh Safran and Stephanie Savage Tease ‘G.G.’

January 26, 2012 by

GOSSIP GIRL’s 100th episode is right around the corner, and yes, after viewing the hour, I can say it is as crazy a ride as you would expect.

While I can’t spill too much about what happens (I do want to survive to see episode 101, after all), I can tease a little bit of what goes down — and executive producers Josh Safran and Stephanie Savage met with a few reporters to answer our burning questions about the hour — so keep reading…

“Well, it’s not an exaggeration to say that the crew has been planning Blair’s wedding since the pilot — not exactly knowing what that would be — and that Blair has probably been planning her wedding since she was a teeny tiny girl,” Savage noted. “Vera Wang made her dress and the bridesmaids dresses and that felt like a great fit because Vera is such an iconic New York character, and she’s actually someone we’ve been trying to get on the show since season 1.”

In fact, the producers noted they had been very close to getting Wang (who appeared in last week’s episode) to appear on the show a few years back.

“And it almost happened at one point in season 3 and then scheduling [got in the way],” Safran shared. “And also, Vera Wang, if you’re going to have a wedding dress, it’s going to be Vera Wang.”

“And growing up in New York, that’s your iconic ideal of what that princess dress is,” added Savage. “So we were so excited that was a great fit — literally and figuratively — and we were so excited we were able to shoot at her store and she played herself and the two dresses we had for Blair were just beautiful and the bridesmaid dresses are great. I think it’s one of the most beautiful looks that Serena has ever had on the show.”

“It’s definitely a Pippa moment [for Serena],” Safran joked.

But before the bride and groom can get their chance to say “I do,” they’ll have to make it past a certain evil priest who has made it his mission to take down the mostly-happy pair.

“He wants his standing, he wants the royal ear,” Safran explained when he was questioned about Father Cavalia’s motives. “A lot of times you hear about these countries where the person on the religious sides of thing controls [the royals] more than anything.”

“It’s very BORGIAS,” Savage joked.

As to whether Father Cavalia will get what he wants, that remains to be seen. It’s safe to say that if you’re a fan of any of Blair’s relationships (whether your chosen pairing is with Chuck, Louis, Dan, or even Nate), you will have at least a little moment to enjoy in the 100th episode.

And if you happen to have an hour to kill before GOSSIP GIRL’s big 100th episode on Monday, I’d definitely recommend rewatching the series premiere so you can catch all the nods to the pilot.

“I think I went out of my way to put 15 [homages to the pilot in the original script] and there are now 7 in there,” Safran — who wrote the 100th episode — told reporters. “I watched the pilot like seven times, even though it’s ingrained in my head at this point.”

The importance of this milestone is also not lost on the producers.

“It’s very hard to get to 100 episodes,” Savage said. “THE OC got to 93 episodes. CHUCK got to a heartbreaking 91 episodes. 100 episodes in our industry is the standard of success and achievement, so especially to get there on a serialized drama, especially on a show about young people, especially on a cycle where there was a writers strike, it’s a big deal.”

GOSSIP GIRL’s 100th episode, “G.G.” airs on Monday, January 30th at 8 PM on The CW. Will you be tuning in? (And make sure to come back to Give Me My Remote after the episode airs for details on what’s coming up next…)
