DUETS: The First Contestant Eliminated by America and Their Superstar Partner Speak Out

July 6, 2012 by

[Warning: The following post contains spoilers from the July 5th episode of DUETS. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, go do that now and then come back to see what the eliminated DUETS contestants has to say.]

After last week’s live DUETS show, did you see tonight’s elimination coming?

True, this was not the first time Olivia Chisholm had landed in the bottom two singers, but this was the first time America had the chance to give their input, so the potential to radically shake up the standings was there.

I spoke with Chisholm and her duet partner Robin Thicke after the live show was over to see how they were handling the news, what song they would have sung tonight, what’s next, and more…

Do you think the right person went home?

Yes, the right person went home. As for the rest . . .

I don’t know how anybody could deny the superior vocal chops of J. Rome and John Glosson. Between the 2, it’s hard for me to decide which is technically better: I think it’s a matter of taste. And on that basis, I’d have to go with J. Rome for his versatility and style. I think he has more popular appeal. But maybe he should have that mole between his eyes removed.

As to who should go, I think Jason Farol — adorable as he may be — is not (yet) as good as Bridget Carrington. I do like the tone of his voice and believe he’ll mature into a much better singer. His performance today was his best by far but he’s still not enunciating the lyrics clearly . . . very frustrating.

Bridget, on the other hand, is already a mature singer with less room to grow. I think Jason has more popular potential than Bridget does in the long run. Based on their performances to date, I think Jason should be the next to go . . . but I wouldn’t mind at all if America chooses him over Bridget. And with the voting power of teenage girls on Jason’s side, I think it will probably be Bridget who leaves next.
