DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APARTMENT 23: James Van Der Beek and Nahnatchka Khan on the Potential of Joshua Jackson or Other DAWSON’S CREEK Stars Guesting

July 27, 2012 by

With Joshua Jackson making it clear he’d be up for a guest spot on DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APARTMENT 23, the question became whether the people behind the ABC comedy actually wanted to stage the quasi-reunion.

“He’s so funny, that would be so great [if he came on],” James Van Der Beek (James Van Der Beek) told me Thursday night about possibly reuniting with his former DAWSON’S CREEK costar on his new ABC series. “You know, we’re trying to figure out how this season is going to play out. That’s a [question for the writers]. We would love to have him. We’ll figure the right time, the right place, when he’s available.”

Given Jackson’s history with mocking his past as Pacey (“How funny was that?” Van Der Beek laughed, when I brought up the Funny or Die skit), it wouldn’t be entirely out of the realm of possibility for him to embrace that humor again. And since Van Der Beek already plays a fictionalized version of himself, it means the potential of writing for Jackson (or any other former DAWSON’S CREEK star) is extra juicy for the writers.

“Somebody earlier told me that [Jackson wanted to guest star],” DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APARTMENT 23 creator Nahnatchka Khan told me. “I would love to have him on the show. I know that everybody’s schedule is crazy, but we would love to have them. We’re in such a unique position to do that because [Van Der Beek]’s playing a heightened version of himself, so he could do a heightened version of Josh Jackson. Because for some reason the whole DAWSON’S reunion [story] is in the air, we’re definitely going to address it in our show, in our season premiere. Where James is like, ‘Why is everybody always asking about it?'”

As it happens, the talk of a potential DAWSON’S CREEK reunion seemed to heat up in recent weeks when Michelle Williams (Jen on the WB series) told reporters at Comic-Con that she would “happily do a reunion show.” The only problem? Williams’ character wouldn’t be able to really participate in any future reunion, something that amused Khan.

“If she wants to play the ghost of Jen, that’s why she’s so suited to do it on our show,” Khan joked. “She could play herself and we could have this discussion on our show. [James could say,] ‘Michelle, what are you talking about? You’re not even alive.’ [She could say,] ‘I could be a ghost, I could be a twin…'”

Are you hoping Jackson finds his way to DON’T TRUST THE B—- IN APARTMENT 23? Perhaps another cast member? Or are you hoping the two shows remain as separate as possible?
