BONES: ‘The Partners in the Divorce’ You Ask, I Answer

September 22, 2012 by

It may be the weekend, but that doesn’t stop you guys from wanting BONES scoop, right? (That’s what I thought.)

I had the chance to screen Monday’s brand new episode, “The Partners in the Divorce,” and when I put out the call on Twitter for some questions about the hour, you delivered.

As per usual, the point of this is never to completely spoil what happens. That means plenty of teasing, but the intention is not to ruin your enjoyment of the hour. But hopefully you’ll still enjoy these teases…

[D]o they address what is was like for Brennan to be apart from Booth? And not just the other way around? – @phq2021 (via Twitter)
Someone close to Brennan attempts to get her to talk about what those three months on the run did to her.

[T]he preview of Bones 8×02 said it will have an S rating…care to share any details about that? 🙂 – @iBones (via Twitter)
Based on the number of questions I got about this, it’s safe to say BONES fans are nothing if not observant. And given what goes down in the episode, I’m giving whomever rates these episodes a little bit of a side-eye for that “S” listing.

Will all the unresolved anger lead Booth & Brennan back to therapy? – @romancemystery (via Twitter)
Booth and Brennan have different ways of handling their problems, but Sweets does play a role in both aspects.

Finn is the intern, right? Are he and Michelle still dating? How is Cam dealing with that now? – @NatesMama1128 (via Twitter)
He is the intern, but his relationship status is never mentioned. (On a quasi-related note, this episode was also the most I’ve liked Finn since he was introduced. So, there’s that.)

[F]rom the [sneak peeks] it looked like there would be some drama, but from the promo it looked like it was to be funny. which 1 will it be? will we finally see B&B talking seriously about their issues? – @Cysvital (via Twitter)
It’s much more dramatic than the silly promos made it out to be. It’s not a tragic hour, but if it had been as light as the ads made it seem to be, I think that could have bordered on disrespectful to the very real issues Booth and Brennan are facing. And yes, they are talking seriously about what has gone down between them.

Were you satisfied by the end of the episode with B/B’s issues? – @biba79 (via Twitter)
I really was. It’s not perfect — and they’re not perfect — but again, this is a legitimate, serious issue they’re dealing with. To pretend everything was perfect and joyful and sunshine and rainbows would be inauthentic and I think would have massively frustrated me. They’re on the right path.

My Q is: Are things going to turn so unbearable for BnBs that they’ll have to go back to the ‘just-partners’ status? #Bones@tmusings (via Twitter)
Heck no.

BONES airs Mondays at 8 PM on Fox.

    As always, Thank-you Marisa. Was really looking forward to this episode. Probably even more than the premier.

    More serious and angsty will be great as long as we can still see the love between Booth and Brennan (and no, I don’t mean “sex”, although the washing machine action was awesome). It’s too bad that the hand holding pic that was released by Fox was BTS, because things like that between B&B would be so sweet.

    I’m a little alarmed at the “Brennan is resentful toward Booth” comments I’ve read. Really Brennan? Maybe she should remember how she felt when Booth was with Hannah. Maybe she should remember that she kind of got herself into this mess by consulting with Ethan Sawyer without telling Booth.

    Anyway, love the serious dynamic as long as B&B are still together.

    Happy that they will finally discuss issues rather than “some things are better left unsaid” or by last seasons use of humor. Hopefully I will feel B & B love again by some honest discussions. I have not been able to enjoy them together since how they got together without really discussing H and his anger. Then last season was just too cutesy and silly for me, but I know the shippers loved it.

    I liked the drama back in the premier and actually watched live. Hoping for more drama and angst. If not, I will turn to HIMYM to watch an actual comedy

    @poirot,

    I don’t think Brennan’s resentment is necessarily with Booth; I believe she is aiming it towards Booth, but her real issue is her neediness of him. I remember reading a HH & SN interview where they talked about this. Brennan has always been independent until she began her relationship with Booth and her 3 months apart have shown her just how much she relies on Booth and is currently trying to get some control back(hence why she suddenly feels the need to make breakfast herself). Obviously, a relationship cannot work that way and B&B are facing tension.

    I, for one, welcome the tension because I feel it makes their relationship real and they actually talk about and deal with their issues (which I felt was very lacking last season). I am very excited for this season!

    Well said Cherise.

    phq2021 brought up an excellent point which I do hope is addressed. Everything I’ve read so far seem to only show Booth as the injured party here, since you know clearly Brennan was living it up with Christine, going on the lam and hiding from a sociopathic serial killer who completely discredited her and framed her for murder.

    @poirot: Ugh, really? Brennan got herself into this mess?! God, you Booth stans and your constant boner for his character is what ruined what was once a very well written show with a credible female lead. It doesn’t help of course that HH & Co panders to you lot. Also, I think Brennan was the one who was trying to start a conversation with Booth before he deflected by initiating that laundry room make out session. Cause you know, God forbid Booth and Brennan ever actually talk to each other and resolve anything on screen (without the interference of Sweets and Angela of course).

    Agreed adrienne, very well said Cherise. Based on the previews it does appear that Brennan is struggling with it. I do hope that we get some on screen resolution (finally!).

    @poirot

    What do you mean “Brennan got herself into this mess”? Yeah, she was consulting a friend of hers. Is that a crime? Does she have to tell Booth everything that she ever does? She was framed for murder by a psychopath, none of which was her fault. Don’t try and pin it on her.

    And yeah, maybe she should remember what it was like when Booth was with Hannah. Maybe she should remember how he treated her like crap both when he was with her and after they broke up. Then I think she wouldn’t feel so guilty about driving off. Seriously, season 6 forever left Booth on my sh@*list.

    Oh Booth and Brennan, “For all the sad words of mice and men, The saddest are these: “It might have been.”

    How lovely it would have been if it had worked out.
