ONCE UPON A TIME: Adam Horowitz and Lana Parrilla Tease the Season Premiere

September 29, 2012 by

After spending 28 years trapped in Storybrooke thanks to a pesky little curse, the characters of ONCE UPON A TIME will find themselves in a slightly unexpected place when season 2 kicks off — the curse has finally been lifted.

“What I can tease about the premiere is we’re picking up right where we left off last season,” ONCE UPON A TIME co-creator Adam Horowitz teased. “We hope to go to some surprising places to try and keep the show familiar if you watched last year, and to also take it in a new direction. And to hopefully excite and surprise and give the audience the chance to be emotionally invested in this new direction.”

One of the new elements of the second season? Magic is no longer contained to the fairytale land.

“Well, now there’s magic in Storybrooke so that changes everything,” Lana Parrilla (Regina/Evil Queen) noted. “Although magic doesn’t work quite the same as it did in fairytale land. Everyone’s a bit rusty — it’s been 28 years, we’re all like the Tin Man from the WIZARD OF OZ. But it’s very interesting, people are waking up and remembering who they are. They have two sets of memories, very confusing for most. Regina has been found out, they know what she’s done, she has a lot of questions to answer.”

And since the townspeople often barely tolerated Regina as their mayor, having the knowledge of what she did to them in the fairytale land will make Regina’s safety an issue.

“I think she’s very realistic with the fact that she has created a lot of pain and caused a lot of pain for the townspeople of Storybrooke,” Parrilla acknowledged. “And she does take responsibility for the things that she’s done, but what trumps that is her relationship with Henry. I think she really cares that she’s going to lose him.”

But how far will she go to prevent that? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

ONCE UPON A TIME premieres Sunday, September 30th at 8 PM on ABC.
