GOSSIP GIRL: Sara Goodman Talks the Serena-Steven-Sage-Nate Complications, Dan, and More

October 22, 2012 by

It’s GOSSIP GIRL Monday! Okay, it’s not totally a thing, but since there are very few scripted shows on tonight thanks to the debate, you really have no excuse not to watch tonight’s brand new episode.

And in honor of that, a few teases of what’s to come, thanks to GOSSIP GIRL executive producer Sara Goodman…

Serena/Steven/Sage/Nate just got super complicated.

Serena has undergone a lot of challenges to her relationships, but she was thrown for a major loop in last week’s episode, “High Infidelity” — her new boyfriend, Steven has a teenage daughter, Sage.

“That’s a pretty big challenge for a relationship,” Goodman teased. “Especially when the daughter is pretty much the same age as you are, and you know how badly you behaved at that age.”

And if Steven and Serena were to get serious, that could make Serena a stepmother to a teen.

“That’s part of [the conflict],” Goodman allowed. “And does she even know what that really would mean? You might think that’s fine in theory. Like, ‘Oh, we’ll be friends.’ But the reality of that and how Sage is going to feel about it — I think at the end of episode 2 you saw how Sage is going to feel about it…not that supportive, maybe.”

But, “it really happens” in life Goodman noted.

“I think that’ll be interesting,” she said. “And for us, it was also really nice to have someone at Constance, especially for the final season. To have someone back at Constance was really great for us.”

Of course, Sage has another in with our core group…she’s kind of dating Nate. And it’s possible his discovery of who she really is won’t completely shut down their romance.

“She is a girl, but she is a pretty sexy girl,” Goodman said. “And she’s legal…We’ll have to see what happens, but I think the deliciousness is there’s so many complications for all of them that could happen. Don’t forget Nate used to date Serena, so that adds a whole other layer to it.”

Drama!

The Dan of it all.

The man once dubbed Lonely Boy has had a rough patch lately, but Goodman assured fans of his will have a lot to look forward to this season.

“This is my favorite Dan season, ever,” she said.  “I really think that Dan, by writing this book with everyone’s real names — the chapters are each a character — and by using their real names and telling the truth, Dan is really going to step into his power this year, in a very different way than we’ve ever seen. And I think that people are going to be very, very happy about it…I think they’ll like where it goes if they stay on the ride.”

What’s to come.

As for what else is on the horizon, two specific episodes have Goodman excited.

“I love cotillion,” she shared. “I think cotillion is great. And Thanksgiving, it’s my favorite Thanksgiving ever. I love Thanksgiving episodes, and this one is my favorite Thanksgiving episode ever.”

And given how crazy GOSSIP GIRL Thanksgiving episodes can be, I can’t wait to see what they have whipped up for this year…

GOSSIP GIRL airs Mondays at 9 PM on The CW.
