Report: NBC Decides Against Moving Forward with THE OFFICE Spinoff

October 29, 2012 by

It seems we’ll be saying goodbye to all our friends at Dunder-Mifflin when the series concludes at the end of this season: THE OFFICE star Rainn Wilson (Dwight) has tweeted that the spinoff that was being developed around his character is dead. (NBC hasn’t responded to a request for comment at this time.)

“Farm Update: NBC has passed on moving forward with The Farm TV show,” Wilson tweeted. “Had a blast making the pilot – onwards & upwards!”

Selfishly, I hope this ends up benefiting THE OFFICE: Dwight and Angela have been through so much, and even if they don’t end up together, I’d rather it be because the writers choose it that way, versus having a spinoff dictate that.

Are you bummed we won’t get a Dwight spinoff?

I’m happy with NBC’s decision to not delve into The Farm, because I’m a fan of The Office. If the show were to make it to TV, Dwight would become too watered down, and his antics would become old, very quickly. I will, however, feel nostalgic throughout The Office’s final season, so I’m going to save the entirety of it to my DISH Hopper. Having a DVR with plenty of recording space, I never have to worry about picking and choosing which shows to watch, like I have in the past. Now I just need to convince one of my friends that work with me at DISH that Dwight’s mustard shirts are part of his character’s charm—you would probably never see them while he takes care of his beet farm.
