FRINGE: Is Olivia Destined to Die? Anna Torv Admits ‘I Don’t Have Any Aversion to the Idea of That Being the Ultimate Sacrifice’

For more than a season, FRINGE has teased the future isn’t too bright for Olivia Dunham.
Between her morbid prediction in “Lysergic Acid Diethylamide,” her actual assassination by Walternate in 2026 (which is no longer a factor thanks to Peter removing himself from the timeline), September’s warning that in all futures she had to die, or her absence from last week’s trip to 2036, things aren’t entirely looking up for our girl. And when you add in what FRINGE showrunners Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman teased earlier this year about Olivia potentially being destined for something tragic, at this point, it would almost be more shocking if Olivia’s fate wasn’t something morbid.
But what does FRINGE star Anna Torv (Olivia) think about all these warnings that her character might kick the bucket?
I sat down with Torv on the Vancouver set earlier this month and we discussed Olivia’s fate and what she thinks of where her character is headed. And in order to make this not entirely super serious/depressing, we also talked about which character she’d like to have back and if fans should expect any more drama between Olivia and Peter…

I liked the interview, very good. But for me, definitely, Olivia Dunham is the hero of Fringe. It was she who has grouped this “our” Fringe team, crossed universes, dimensions, timelines and has experienced many moments “deadly” and, despite all survived. She even have died in a future result, we now think is unlikely. Olivia Dunham, is the synonymous of the Fringe, I think. If she no longer “exist”, Fringe, we know so far, also no longer exist.

It’s hilarious to watch the Olivia faction of the fandom (there shouldn’t BE “factions” but there seem to be) freaking out over the prospect of Olivia being absent for a while… I think the show would survive just fine, like it survived with Peter being absent for a while. Cue all the frenzied protests of how much more “important” Olivia is to everything. Wrong, guys – Fringe is a show about 3 main characters (Walter, Olivia, Peter) and NO ONE is too important to put offscreen for the purposes of the story. The story is key.

Yes, I’m also convinced that the main of the Fringe, are the three characters: Olivia, Peter and Walter, of course. But these three, that I think is the real hero of Fringe, is the FBI agent Olivia Dunham. And since we’re talking about a possible “sacrifice” of Olivia Dunham, is that I repeat: no Olivia, there is no Fringe. So it happened with Peter and Walter. Without them, in my view, there would not be the Fringe, we know.
Yeah, well, a lot of fans feel the same way about Peter and/or Walter. And for a while, there WAS no Peter, and everything was fine. Methinks the Olivia faction is just a little bit too big for its britches.

You must have forgotten the sad spectacle that Peter / Josh fans gave the world last summer. All sorts of pathetic accusations and innuendos went on for months and months.
Yes, Fringe has three main characters, but make no mistake the hero of Fringe is Olivia. It’s been like that since the beginning of the show and the show is at its best when focused on her. The proof is this season, they focused on Peter’s return and his impact on the other characters and it’s been a mess.

but dont forget, he is just 33 years old , he has a lot of time to proof himself as an actor.
anna torv on the other hand is also 33 years old, but in hollywood that’s too old already, and after fringe is back to playing somebody else love interest.
because that’s the roles available for woman.
many say that brad pitt cant act, that george clooney doesnt have it in him to act, but still they manage to have an oscar nomination.
joshua jackson reminds me of george clooney, he has the same charisma and like josh, george found fame until his late 30’s.
so for the people who keep insulting joshua jackson, be aware that joshua can make it big time in the future.

And Anna doesn’t own the show, didnt create the show, if the writers want to focu on somebody who ISN’T OLIVIA, they can do whatever the hell they want to. Get over yourself. Olivia is not the only character on this show. Amazing how Olivia fans treat the rest of the characters like they do not matter.

Peter hasn’t been the focus this season. Maybe that’s why S4 has been a mess.
