SCANDAL: Darby Stanchfield Teases What’s to Come

January 10, 2013 by

SCANDAL is back tonight! And for Olivia Pope and the rest of the gang, they’re still reeling for Huck’s (wrongful) arrest for the attempted assassination of Fitz.

Huck’s capture would be terrifying no matter what, but as Darby Stanchfield (Abby) pointed out to me during a recent interview, the fact that he’s being held under the Patriot Act means that all bets are off.

“Anything can happen to him,” she teased. “He’s not in prison, he’s not in jail. The government has him. And the show is called SCANDAL, and it’s all about secrets. The audience is in for a huge lump in their stomach. It’s just going to be a really intense episode and for as intense as the last one, I thought it was even better that this is the first one coming back. So much happens in this episode, it’s great.”

As for what else is coming down the road, Stanchfield hinted Abby’s romantic life isn’t going to get any easier.

“Well, by no means is David and Abby over,” she said. “That relationship continues to be really complicated and dysfunctional and scandalous, and dangerous, too. We still have a David Rosen problem that hasn’t gone away.”

But in the grander scheme of the show, the two worlds (the White House and Olivia’s crisis management team) will continue on a collision path towards each other.

“The other thing is does Fitz wake up, does he die,” Stanchfield said. “The White House world and the Olivia Pope world, they come together closer and closer with each episode. For Olivia, they’ve kind of been these two separate worlds as Huck has gotten involved, and now framed for the attempted assassination, both worlds become more and more involved. And that’s going to be really fun for fans to see: them interacting more.”

SCANDAL airs Thursdays at 10 PM on ABC. And make sure to keep up with all the latest news at the show’s official site.
