BONES: ‘The Body and the Bounty’

October 15, 2010 by

It’s that time of year again, BONES fans: our last episode before the Fox baseball break. So we’ve got to make this one count!

Before we get to a breakdown of “The Body and the Bounty,” I want to bring two quotes from this episode up to the forefront of the discussion. The first is from Bunsen Jude, The Science Dude (played A-MAAAA-ZINGly by David Alan Grier) to Brennan: “If at first you don’t succeed, you pick yourself up, and ignoring all the doomsayers and mopey-dopes, you try again.”

The second quote is from the second bounty hunter to Booth, “It’s the thrill of the chase, right?”

Was anyone else as encouraged by those as I was? Though on the surface the lines appear to be case-related, in my opinion they spoke right to the heart for both Brennan and Booth. They may never admit it, or put them into context of their relationship, but I feel we can do that. Brennan can try again; Booth can be intrigued by that chase again. What do you think? What OTHER lines were meaningful to you? Before we get to that, let’s take a look at what went down…

THE CASE:

Two ‘freegans’ are dumpster-diving and find a human skeletal head. Once the remains end up back at the Jeffersonian, the team ascertains that the male victim was killed at a particular altitude in an area of West Virginia that houses a particular bug and is localized by an Ollie’s BBQ restaurant. It seems obscure, but it’s just another day at work for our favorite team, who make their determinations from the hair remaining from the victim’s bushy beard.

Brennan leads the lab work, assisted by our regular squint squad, and she’s joined by “Dude,” as she calls him. He’s interested in having her as a guest on his science show. (P.S. Did anyone else notice the “THE LAB” sign during the science show? Is it me, or is that from “The End in the Beginning”?) Brennan is more concerned with solving the case, and when Greg Garing provides important information to Booth on their victim’s identity and occupation, B&B hit the trail to find out who could have killed Ray Cominsky, a bounty hunter.

Suspect number one is Charles Braverman, the $1 million mark Cominsky was chasing. Sweets profiles Braverman’s wife Molly and determines she’s the type to have been manipulated by his heavy-handed behavior. When B&B go to question her, Braverman shows up, and in a burst of much-needed adrenaline, Booth and Brennan are caught up in a foot chase complete with gun play. Brennan refuses Booth’s advice to stay down and back, and the suspect jumps through a window, injuring himself while running away. There, Booth and Brennan come up against a second bounty hunter after Braverman, Janet LeBlanc. Booth lets her go to continue her chase, and interrogates Garing again.

It’s not until Hodgins and Dude figure out that the murder weapon is a potato gun and Brennan concludes that Braverman’s injury from jumping from the window will likely land him in an emergency room that Booth really gets a good lead. He and Brennan arrive to the emergency room and see Charles and Molly Braverman (who are trying to escape) and Janet LeBlanc (who is holding a beanbag gun). That’s the murder weapon, and Booth takes her into custody, leaving Brennan free to join Dude’s children’s science show.

THE SQUINTS:

It was fun seeing Sweets actually in a session, and even more fun to see Booth bust in on it and force him to wrap it up in under two minutes. Also, we can’t let this section go by without mentioning Caroline’s cougar reaction to Booth. Am I right? She knows what’s up! As for the rest of the Jeffersonian team, it was awesome to see them all jump right in with excitement over Dude’s involvement in the case. Hodgins and Cam were particularly endearing in their quoting and experimenting in this episode.

But Angela wins Squint of the Week for her one-on-one conversation with Brennan on how it will be important for her to appear on the Dude’s show — girls all over will see her and begin to dream big. Awesome! I loved Angela telling Brennan that if she has a daughter she’ll name her Temperance. Though she won’t be called that, because “it’s awful”! Hahaha!

BOOTH & BRENNAN:

If we’d only gotten the “perfect murder” conversation, I would have been happy with this episode. But, we got SO MUCH MORE B&B in this episode, don’t you think? It’s not loving looks of devotion over coffee, but still…they are really getting back to feeling comfortable with one another. I know there is some debate out there on why Booth doesn’t refer to Brennan as his partner. My feeling is this: Sometimes he does, and sometimes he doesn’t. While we haven’t seen them use the word “partner” much this season, I don’t think that in this episode it was a blatant omission. Thoughts from you?

I loved when B&B were talking on the bench and Brennan said that people should stick to their strengths. Booth replied that people should evolve. My impression is that it’s more for Brennan to come around to the idea of love than it is for us to come around to the idea that he’s “moved on” (second P.S.: anyone getting as tired of those two words as I am?). Either way, I was glad to see Booth and Brennan get back to their roots so to speak and work the case together.

As for the end, I wasn’t sure there was anything I could love more than Brennan exploring the fascinating world of the Jersey Shore in last week’s episode “The Maggots in the Meathead,” but I think Brennan in that bones-lady costume leading the children in the science cheer might just be my new favorite thing. That and the shared thumbs-up from Booth, of course.

There is so much more to discuss in this episode: Tootie, BONES drinking games, Brennan’s bickering with Sweets, and of course, the quotes I mentioned at the beginning. All in all, I think this might have been my favorite episode of season 6 so far. Not necessarily because it was Hannah-free, but more because it was funny, intense and filled with good, old fashioned B&B bickering.

Do you agree? Favorite line? Favorite moment? Favorite “Dude” saying? Discuss below!

I didn’t love it as much as the previous 3 episodes. Hodgins and Cam were funny getting so excited over the science dude and Angela was fab in her scene with Brennan. She was looking better than she has this season too.
The case was a bit “meh” for me.More focusing on the science guy than the actual reason for him being there. By the middle of the episode I just wanted to slap him every time he said amazing! Really hoping he’s a one off not a regular squintern.
Loved how into the kids science show Brennan got though and it seemed Booth kinda saw a new side to her which brought back a few feelings, judging by the look on his face at the end.

Thought I had a couple of favorite lines, and liked the potato fun, but didn’t see how it fit into the crime until the bounty hunter used it on Braverman, making it a rare ‘aha’ moment for me….everything was wiped off the board when Brennan went from dissmissing the Science dude to coming out in that Bones lady outfit! And the thank you she gave him was one of the best moments yet!

I enjoyed the episode, and now I’m going to write contradicting things – I was pleased that B&B were more relaxed around each other, it was fun to watch the banter and the warm interactions between all the squints. But there’s an elephant that’s supposed to be in the room, and with the only mention of his girlfriend being about their post-coital haze it felt too much like B&B are just pals now – UST gone. Not a good thing that.

The quotes you mention at the beginning – “If at first you don’t succeed, you pick yourself up, and ignoring all the doomsayers and mopey-dopes, you try again.” and “It’s the thrill of the chase, right?” can be applied to B&B I think, but their double meanings would be missed by most viewers, no? Particularly as the episode was more lighthearted. I would have liked to see a sideways look between them to signal that the quotes were meaningful.

Loved the science dude – we were hit over the head with him, but it was all so happy – like childhood is supposed to me. I would likely have that reaction to Mr. Rogers if he suddenly appeared. Always love Caroline! The conversation with Angela and her saying she would name her daughter Temperance – I actually felt a little teary – I am very pleased they are showing T&A close again!

ED/Brennan at the end – priceless. A little campy, but she leaves a big smile on my face when she keeps her promise in such a charming way. Little gripe – i thought it was a little creepy that they had Booth put a (pretty big) kid into his lap (would have loved to see Parker there!). That was just weird. If you ignored the little girl though, it was nice to see Booth really smile with Brennan – the thumbs-up was nice, but again, the interaction between the 2 of them needed to be highlighted there, it got a little lost in all that was going on at the end.

Here’s my continuity question… Is Booth not remembering Tootie and how Tootie tells a product of his brain tumor?

  5. Monica (@texmex327) on October 15th, 2010 9:09 am

I loved this episode, and not only because it was Hannah-free. David Alan Grier was absolutely hilarious as the Dude. I loved that Brennan called him that too, it made me giggle.
I did notice the Lab sign. I had watching season 4’s finale right before I watched the new episode and went HEY, I know that sign. LOL. (Yes, a sign that I watch WAY too much TV).
Booth & Brennan discussing the perfect murder was absolutely hilarious. Booth saying he always gets his man, in this case woman 🙂
Absolutely loved Brennan in her Bones Lady constume. I wanna be her for Halloween and wouldn’t mind have someone like Seely Booth admiring me from the crowd. I think if Parker had been there, it would have made it a little more sweeter. But the look of admiration on Booth’s face was so adorable.
I think we got the glimmer that yes, he is still dazzled by her. I think he can still see himself with her in 30,40,50 years.

  6. thesciencegirl on October 15th, 2010 9:24 am

The look on Booth’s face during the children’s show at the end reminded me of how he looked watching Brennan perform at karaoke at the end of season 3.

I liked the break from Hannah, although there was less emotional depth to this episode (it’s the first one that didn’t make me cry over Brennan’s heartbreak).

LOVED that Hodgins and Dude did an experiment together. Loved Angela’s conversation with Brennan. And my favorite part was the perfect murder conversation.

  7. Janet (ProfeJMarie) on October 15th, 2010 9:25 am

I’d have to say that this was my least favorite episode so far this season. But, given how good the other 3 have been, that isn’t cutting it down at all.

I like your reference to “the thrill of the chase” and that phrase caught me while watching because Booth paused after she had said that and he had an interesting look on his face. I was wondering what was going through his mind at that moment. Maybe there really was more to that line, after all, right?

Enjoyed the Booth-Brennan banter about the perfect murder . . . the whole way they discussed it in the car and at the dumpster scene was so “them” which was indeed heartening.

The “partner” word . . . I don’t know if it was blatant or not . . but it was obviously missing when Booth introduced themselves to Molly Braverman at that apartment. I’m not sure about other times.

I have to say that Hodgins has been stellar so far this season. He has had some great lines and interactions and has been fabulously reflecting other characters (like a mirror, not contemplative).

Wonderful conversation between Angela and Brennan and aren’t those hormones great with Angela being brutally honest about the name “Temperance”? Hahaha. And so lovely to see Brennan do such a sincere performance on “Mr. Dude’s” show.

My favorite part, though – was not the exchanged thumbs up, but the fact that Booth was so nervous for Brennan. It was the cutest thing and that particular part, in this episode, summed up his feelings for her. He would not have been so nervous for anyone else on the team – and not just because they are more “with it” for the the show. I don’t know how to explain it, exactly, I just felt that is was a genuine jittery-ness in, I don’t know, empathy? A “good” nervousness, I guess, is all I can say. 🙂

  8. Vee on October 15th, 2010 9:27 am

While I certainly enjoyed the veiled meaning of lines, on the whole I felt the episode was rushed and kind of disjointed. I hated the silly costume they put Brennan in at the end, and if Parker loved that show so much, why wasn’t he there to see it, and why wasn’t it more emphasized that maybe Brennan did it because both Booth and Angela had personal reasons to want her to? Booth could see she was making an effort to change – I didn’t like that Angela and Hodgins don’t act like a couple, I felt some of the delivery was very different than the characters had in the past, even though the lines were there – like Caroline’s asides were not quite as smooth, Cam was a bit too perky, Brennan had an interestingly subtle anger thing going at Booth but it didnt follow through the show – the perfect murder conversation was like B&B of old and that was fun. Perhaps they are both trying to keep their distance because Booth knows he would reveal his whole heart and doesnt want to be hurt, and Brennan is confused and not fully able to commit to him just yet. I am waiting for the moment when, in a moment that should be importantly intimate, Booth calls Hannah Bones and the truth of where his love is has to be faced – please let it be soon – I like the Hannah character even less than the marine biologist one. I liked the last episode more – this one felt like filler just to advance certain bits of the plot – I guess when it comes back after baseball it will be like starting anew, with Hannah hopefully shot only in an attempt to woo Booth which of course would make him dislike her and want someone he could trust with his life, etc, etc. I miss the comfortable banter and meaningful looks and little signs of affection that always made this show sweet and the relationship of B&B fun to watch. Ang and Hodgins too were missing their usual tight interaction. The awful name line was great tho.

  9. Lisa (BoothyBones) on October 15th, 2010 10:35 am

I guess I must be a lover of angst, because even though I really liked this episode, it didn’t thrill me as much as the first 3 eps of this season. That being said, these were some of my fave moments:

The entire conversation about the ‘perfect murder’ was VERY comical….Dude! (so funny that Bren kept referring to him as Dude)…Hodgins making a drinking game out of the kids science show while in college (come on, we’ve all done something like this, right?).

I thought this exchange was hilarious! Booth: Caveman fought the T-rex, it’s a fact! Brennan: I can’t tell if you’re joking….I hope you are.

‘It’s a Barbarity that Clarity is a Rarity’ Oh yeah, we should have known our girl would appreciate this statement 🙂

Yeah! Angela/Brennan girl talk….I’m so glad that Booth and Angela were able to talk Brennan into doing the science show.

I’m surprised Bren was defending the Bounty Hunter at the end…and then…’I have no rebuttal to that statement’ LOL!

It was very cute at the end how Booth was nervous for Bren and also very proud of her 🙂

  10. Marta on October 15th, 2010 10:38 am

This was a fun episode without being too over the top or too riddled with angst. The team seemed to function as a team and we got some nice little moments with everyone: Caroline’s cougar moment with Booth offset by her moving with the science dude at the end; Angela’s push for Brennan to do the show offset by what looked to be a little anxiety at the end for her friend; Cam’s own take on the science dude: her “merriment in the experiment” moment that offsets all her qualms about experiments at all. Hodgins as the perfect fan boy was just precious.

These people really seem to love their work and love working with each other. While some of the dynamic between B&B has been replaced by HB’s presence and the new line drawn between them, I think these are little steps toward a bigger chance for Brennan to grow and Booth to find he’s looking in the wrong direction for love. Yes, the UST is gone right now, but do you really expect Booth to be lusting after one woman while he’s bedding another? Let’s put both B&B in the “too honorable to go there” category. This episode showed a thaw in the Ice Age between B&B. Booth allowed himself to respond to his partner without holding back and Brennan got a chance to let her inner child out for a moment.

I think we can all thank him for that.

  11. Owl on October 15th, 2010 12:02 pm

So I am going to have to admit that when I heard Brennan mention Tootie, I bounced up and down and went “TOOTIE! From Man in the Wall!” Yeah… I just watched that episode again last week, so I was excited. Also, wasn’t the “my car, my topic of conversation” quote from season 1? And yes, the Lab sign was from the Ending in the Beginning. And the fact that squinterns was used three times in a row? Awesome. And Brennan with the gun was a fun throwback to earlier seasons (it was the beanbag gun, if you look really closely, so they had both the murderer and the murder weapon in their hands in the beginning!).

This one had a theme (only in the lab, not the case) of reaching your inner child. Cam, Hodgins, Angela (only a tiny bit) and Brennan all seemed to do that with “Dude” around. The way Brennan called him “Dude” reminded me of my little sister during her calling everyone “dude” phase. Caroline also told Booth that he was too grown up when he let the bounty hunter go. Even Caroline started doing the motions for the scientist’s oath thing. Also, there was that theme of science education (they had a commercial relating Fringe to science ed close to the end as well), which I loved. Angela’s conversation with Brennan? Excellent, not just for the naming her daughter Temperance, but that idea of getting girls to dream big, and to get them into science. Our local elementary students don’t have science or social studies/history where I live (and haven’t for a while, I learned more about science through Bill Nye, the Magic School Bus, the Natural History museum, and the local nature centers than from school). Speaking of the Magic School Bus, they used a similar group and pattern of notes for Bunsen Jude’s TV show as in some of the Magic School Bus music… and Brennan’s outfit made me think of Ms. Frizzle. Also — Brennan in “teacher mode” (with the Dude) is always really interesting.

Sweets was great in this one. He’s still doing sessions (so funny), and his back and forth with Brennan about the escaped couple was interesting (although we just call our highways by the numbers on the East Coast). One thing I like about Bones is that instead of just telling the facts, they build conversations around them — it’s more engaging that way. He wasn’t in the last scene, which surprised me.

@Morgan — that was probably just to help people along who have never seen Man in the Wall before.

Brennan and Booth’s bench conversation was interesting. “People should stick to their strengths”? It makes me wonder how many times people have told her that (actually, Booth already has, in earlier seasons). It’s sad, in a way, because sometimes you discover you have other strengths when you go beyond what you know your strengths are, and it’s a chance to grow/evolve.

There is so much more I could say, like how emerald ash borers aren’t rare (they’re an invasive Asian species) or in Virginia, Cam’s reaction to the “perfect murder” conversation was amazing, and that all of the kids on the TV show were just adorable… but I won’t. Overall impression was “adorable” — which I have only used for one other episode. Not the best episode, but I love it.

  12. Samantha on October 15th, 2010 1:07 pm

I really liked this episode! It was funny, interesting and it felt like Bones. And not to be a hater, but I do think it has to do with Hannah’s absence, not just her as a person but there was no MENTION of her either! In the other three episodes, she was mentioned or there and it felt very un-Bones like. I have said it from the first episode, I feel like she is being forced on us, and it feels unnatural for the show’s chemistry. This episode was so much better!! Maybe B&B’s chemistry wasn’t quite the same, but it was much closer and the episode overall had a much better vibe.

Plus, Booth at the end was SO cute, how he was nervous and then sat down with the kids and gave her the thumbs up, oh, that man is so in love with her. He is just kidding himself by denying it or thinking he has moved on, cuz both last week’s end and this week’s end show that is not true!
I was afraid “the Dude” was going to be cheesy but I actually really liked him in the episode. It didn’t feel awkward or out of place.

As for the quotes you mentioned, I feel like they could mean more than they do or maybe we are reading into things, because I felt the same way as you, hoping that it would help Brennan see she hasn’t lost Booth, that she can try again.

Bummed we won’t get another new episode for a while… maybe there will be the world series will be a sweep and then we can get back to new episodes!!

  13. Samantha on October 15th, 2010 1:13 pm

Oh my gosh, and I forgot “The Lab” sign, I noticed it right away… and it me or have they been peppering things from that “dream” throught the last season too??

  14. Lenora on October 15th, 2010 1:31 pm

I liked this show. I find it interesting that no one mentioned the fact that Booth was letting Bones drive in the beginning of the show. The only time he does that is when wants to get something from Bones or he is giving her a treat. That tells me that Booth is starting to react to Bones again. That his hurt feelings are healing and he is growing more comfortable with her again.

Booth called Brennan his partner last week when the Terror pushed her so I am not worried that he didn’t declare her his partner this week. He doesn’t always call her his partner in every episode so I think we shouldn’t look for it every week.
The “I could get away with murder” conversation was hilarious and the odd expressions on Booth’s face were pretty funny. This conversation shows how relaxed they are becoming towards each other.
I thought it was pretty amusing when Booth asked where Mrs Braverman was and Brennan said she would be out for about 8 hours or so. I nearly jumped out of my skin when the needle went into Mrs Braverman.
I loved Hodgins and way he acted around the Dude. It was so cute. When Angela said that if she has a girl she will name her Temperance, I thought, no way. Then Angela said it would be her middle name because Temperance was terrible and I thought yeah, it would be an ok middle name and Brennan would have the solid proof she needs that people do love her. Angela tells her she loves her a lot; but, Brennan doesn’t seem to hear her. A child named for her would be solid proof of that love.
The best part of the episode was when Booth was practically bouncing off the walls with nervousness for Brennan. He really wanted her to succeed. That my friends is love. He may not admit it but it is.

  15. bonesfan08 on October 15th, 2010 2:41 pm

I really liked this episode!! Not solely because it was hannah-free, but I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy that. 🙂 I loved all the B&B. Angela’s talk with Brennan was great too. Dude was very funny as well. Overall, I think this is my favorite episode of the season so far. And I’m a big baseball fan, but here’s to hoping that the playoffs and world series goes by fast so we can resume our weekly bones watching!! 🙂

  16. rynogeny on October 15th, 2010 2:56 pm

Being the slightly perverse creature that I am, I can say with a perfectly straight face that I liked this ep, think it was important for them to do, and that it’s probably never going to be one of my favorites.

Although I watch for a lot of different reasons, including the character growth and relationships other than B/B, their relationship is the primary draw for me, thus the eps I watch repeatedly tend to be the ones with ‘deep’ moments between them.

Every season has eps like this one, which I tend to think of B/B-lite, but I don’t think there’s ever been one that was as important as this one. Because the very fact that most of the moments between them are understated emphasizes what we most needed to see at this point: they’re okay. They’re a unit, they’re friends, they banter. Brennan’s not sad all the time (which is what some viewers seem to be seeing/expecting) and if her walls are up, they’re thin enough for Booth and Angela to successfully convince her to do something she initially didn’t want to do, and to enjoy it in the process.

That said, my favorite moments were the scene between her and Angela, where we see again the depth of their friendship, and the end, where she and Booth exchange the thumbs’ up. She’s looking for him, he knows it, and doesn’t hesitate in giving her the approval she’s looking for. I find it interesting that they continue to emphasize the friendship with Angela the way they are, and wonder if it’s because at some point, we’re going to see Angela challenge her in some way and they need the audience to remember how solid the friendship is, first. (Just a theory…)

Sweets continues to be a problem for me. I enjoyed his profiling scene, but really wish they’d let him grow up. As someone with a psych background, the fact that he let Booth simply run roughshod over his client (good thing the client wasn’t depressed and dealing with feelings of insignificance, huh?) wasn’t amusing to me in the least. I know they wanted him to be a ‘young genius’ type of character to sort of replace Zach and to fit in with the other younger characters on the show, but a therapist who allowed someone to do that to a client because he can’t stand up to the agent in question has no business doing therapy. (Seriously, can you imagine Booth bursting in on Gordon Gordon that way and GG going along with it?) That doesn’t mean I didn’t enjoy the cameo by the Masked Scheduler, or appreciate the gag of the gender switch. Still, I live for the day when we see character growth in Sweets.

But that was a minor complaint in an overall sweet ep that so many, I think, needed to see right now. Caroline was a bonus, as was Tootie. I loved Hodgins’ fanboy routine and David Alan Grier. I wouldn’t mind seeing him again, actually, though I can’t imagine how they’d do it.

  17. Gata on October 15th, 2010 3:25 pm

Okay while watching this episode I felt the whole team is disconnected. The last 2 episodes barely had Angela and Hodgins in the same room (to my recollection). It seems that Booth is doing more investigative work without Brennan. Sweets – since when did an FBI “employee” have a private practice at the FBI HQs??? I just felt that scene was totally “unreal.”

I did enjoy the interaction with B&B and didn’t miss Hannah in the least. I wasn’t really impressed with Brennan’s Miss Bones costume, but I was impressed with how all of the staff was stoked because she was on the science show. I especailly was impressed with Booths excitment. My first thought when they had a audience for the show, was “where is Parker,” that was unbelievable that he wouldn’t be there, it also unbelievable that he hasn’t been in any epsodes since the season premier.

Of course I will be rewatching this episode, but on a scale of 1-10, I have to give it an 7.5

  18. Bones234 on October 15th, 2010 4:42 pm

I loved this episode! I needed a break from the heartbreaking Hanna moving on thing. I was so worried that the show was done after I hated the first three episodes and they were uncomfortable to watch. But I am good now because Booth and Bones are actually okay and still have a spark. It was like old times. The thumbs up was my favorite part but I also enjoyed them sitting on the bench and Booth talking about the T rex and caveman. They were themselves again. I enjoyed it. I loved the perfect murder debate at the crime scene when she said he should remember that for his murder….. funny

Booth seems like his old self again, his scene with carolyn at the crime scene was old Boothe. He was just a lot more atttentive to everyone and friendly again. I am glad he is not really ruined. I was worried. IT was a good episode to leave on during the break.

Only bad part was the preview when Hannah got shot. I don’t know why they had to ruin my good mood. Don’t get me wrong I want her shot alright but not for Booth to play the loving bf.

  19. Deb on October 15th, 2010 10:18 pm

I missed Parker, that last scene would’ve been a lot better with him. It just felt weird that Booth was with strange kids, when Parker is supposed to love the show.
I also thought it was weird that Booth let Bones drive….

  20. Marypat on October 16th, 2010 12:16 am

Loved the last episode, particularly because Hannah was almost out of the picture, except for Bone’s remark. This will probably fall on deaf ears, but please make Hannah go away and get B&B really back together again. I hope that if the 5th episode was filmed with Booth proposing to Hannah, that they will take the time during baseball series to rewrite and reshoot!!!

  21. Cynthia on October 16th, 2010 1:16 am

Like many, I enjoyed the episode, especially the last scene. It took me a couple of viewings to understand that indeed, Booth was holding that girl on his lap. When I figured that out and watched the scene again, I could see a young Brennan in her–she looks like what I always imagined Brennan would look like as a young junior high/older elementary student. I liked that she was so enthusiastic–almost as if the writers were giving us a view of Brennan’s “inner child”–and she happened to be right next to Booth!

  22. Drew on October 16th, 2010 4:47 pm

Best episode of the season so far.

  23. Lenora on October 18th, 2010 8:37 am

Someone above (sorry I read it but couldn’t find it when I went back and looked) mentioned that Sweets was in the middle of a session with a private patient when Booth interrupted him. Actually he was in his FBI office and I am sure his patient worked for the FBI as Booth leaned down and said hello to Gordy. The fact that Sweets would rush his patient can be attributed to the fact that Booth can still intimidate Sweets and Booth is notorious for being impatient. Every few episodes he will tell Brennan “chop chop, lets go”. The fact the Gordy didn’t say anything about his session being busted early can be attributed to the fact that Special Agent Booth is probably higher in rank. I don’t think the writers were in error with this scene. It seems spot on.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you wrote. Plus, I noticed in the last three eps that Booth and Brenn hardly touched each other anymore, and I was so delighted to see her dragging him around in the hospital. To me this ep felt as if THEY were back.

Could someone tell me if I missed something in this episode? Why would the female bounty hunter put the head and hands in a dumpster? Why wouldn’t she just bury them with the rest of the body?

Mike H, I would assume she didn’t want the head and hands with the body so that the body could not be idenitified. Booth said the dumpster was a good place to dump the head and hands. The only reason they were found is because of the dumpster divers. Carrying a whole body around to dispose of would be cumbersome. Head and hands would fit in a small bag and would not excite attention. Brennan even says in the beginning that eliminating the body would be a perfect murder. The bounty hunter probably thought if she just got rid of the head and hands she would be safe. Hope this helps.

Lenora, that all makes sense. Except the rest of the body was only discovered because the evidence from the head and hands led them to the approximate location. Usually at the end they kind of summarize and fill in the blanks and I thought I must have missed something.

Mike H, You’re right they didn’t summarize the clues for the body like they normally do. I took it that the bounty hunter didn’t want the head and hands with the body because she buried the body so close to the house that the FBI was monitoring (hoping Braverman would show up there). She was probably worried that the FBI would stumble upon the body so she decided to remove any body parts that would have easily identified the body. She didn’t count on the dumpster divers finding the parts she took away from the body. I think the writers were more interested in a psycho running around and Booth and Bones chasing after him. Good show though. Felt more like season 3 than season 5 or 6.
