RAISING HOPE Video Exclusive: Garret Dillahunt and Martha Plimpton Clean A Viewer’s Home — As Burt and Virginia

March 22, 2013 by

It’s increasingly hard to lure viewers to watch television — whether it’s in the traditional way (on TV) or via newer methods (DVR, online, iTunes, etc.)  — so networks have had to step up their game to get noticed.

Enter: Fox’s RAISING HOPE.

See, the delightful comedy often finds itself in the same predicament as many of the very good shows on television right now — much-loved, but struggling in the Nielsen ratings. So in an effort to creatively promote the show, Fox held a contest where the main prize was as unique as you can get: RAISING HOPE stars Garret Dillahunt (Burt) and Martha Plimpton (Virginia) cleaning a viewer’s home…in character.

RAISING HOPE creator Greg Garcia picked Benjamin Waiberman’s submission (included below) as the grand prize winner, so Dillahunt and Plimpton headed to Tampa to do some cleaning.

Check out the absolutely hilarious video of their adventure…

Waiberman’s winning submission: “My family surprisingly resembles the Chance family in more than a numbers of ways that makes me comfortable to say.  There’s my dad the self-made man with his own business.  He may not be as smart as he will assure you he is, but he makes up for it with charisma.  My mom works at a call center, so while she is not a maid, like Virginia, she deals with people’s shit everyday.  My sister works at a grocery store and has a 3 yr. old that we all take care of.  His fathers no serial killer, but he’s not around anyhow.  I am a 26 yr. old, lost his job, ran out of money and moved back in with his parents loser.  Like Jimmy I now also work a menial job.  We don’t have a Maw Maw family member, but my dad has a neurological condition where he will almost instantaneously forgot things he just said or did, which can occasionally lead to some hilarity.  I think we could use a visit from them because the house is a mess, the pool is green, and we could all use a break.  Plus Goonies was awesome. Thanks”

RAISING HOPE’s season finale airs on Thursday, March 28th at 9 PM. (Yes, that’s a special night and time.) Will you be checking it out?
