FRINGE: Jasika Nicole Reveals What You Didn’t See in the Series Finale
May 6, 2013 by Marisa Roffman
It’s been more than three months since FRINGE finished its (often wild) journey, but even with the conclusion in place, there is still more to say about what ultimately wasn’t aired.
In honor of the fifth season being released on DVD/Blu-ray on Tuesday, May 7th, I asked FRINGE star Jasika Nicole (Astrid) to share her memories of a scene she shot that fans never saw. And, as it turns out, Astrid originally had a bigger sequence in the series finale Observer fight as the team struggled to guarantee that Michael would make it to the future to fulfill that ultimate plan…
“It was the first time Astrid was in a for-real gun battle; she had protected Walter before with a gun, but this scene, she and Olivia were double-teaming and running down the street and shooting bad guys,” Nicole explained. “So we had choreographed this whole scene, and I remember it was this really emotional night, because unfortunately, they didn’t take any time ahead of time to work on shooting the gun, so I had to work on learning all the [workings of the prop] that night. And they were like, ‘Be really careful, because you could really kill somebody.’ And I was like, ‘If I could kill somebody, you need to take some time to show me how to do it right!’ I didn’t want to die and didn’t want anyone else to die, and it was [ultimately] fine.”
“We ended up shooting this scene, and everyone said it looked really, really great,” she continued. “And it didn’t make it into the finale. There was like a fraction of it, but there was this whole long [sequence] that didn’t make it.”
Anyone else a little bummed we lost that scene of Astrid and Olivia kicking butt?
