About Last Night…MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D., PERSON OF INTEREST, THE MINDY PROJECT, and More

September 25, 2013 by

So. Much. TV.

Let’s talk about what aired last night…

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.: I wanted to like this more than I did. It was slick, I do adore Coulson, I wish Maria could be a more regular presence on the show, but many of the other characters felt like they could have been transplanted from other recent Whedon projects. I will say, I’m very, very, very curious to see what episode 2 of this show might look like.

THE VOICE: Such, such, such great talent this year. The show remains one of the few reality competition series I wish was on more hours of the week.

DADS: I’ll admit it — I laughed at the Eskimo song. I may have been the only one watching, but I’m glad episode two was stronger than the pilot.

BROOKLYN NINE-NINE: Thank goodness episode two was sold. It’s always worrisome when I love a pilot, because there’s so much time to get things right in that initial episode, that when it comes time for an actual weekly series, thing might simply not gel properly. So I was so relieved to be laughing at what they had for us in last night’s episode. Please stay good, show!

THE GOLDBERGS: I really liked the pilot. The grandfather storyline broke my heart, and I’m curious to see how it’s handled as the season progresses. And I have had REO Speedwagon in my head for months. (PS – How amazing was the real/reel life comparisons to the real Goldbergs at the end?)

NEW GIRL: A significantly better episode than last week, but WTF were the writers thinking having Winston seriously contemplate killing a cat? The ridiculous puzzle looked like a freaking masterpiece compared to Winston ABOUT TO SMOTHER A CAT.

THE MINDY PROJECT: If you told me a month ago that Kris Humphries on THE MINDY PROJECT would make me laugh, I would have told you that you were out of your [insert any curse here] mind. I can completely admit now I was wrong, because Danny’s sad man basketball team was just so great. And I wouldn’t mind if James Franco would return at some point…he managed to surprise me on the show, too.

TROPHY WIFE: This is a nitpick, admittedly, but it’s ridiculous they recast one of the kids in the pilot and didn’t bother to reshoot the pilot. So, next week, is it just going to be like, hey, remember how your sister was TOTALLY DIFFERENT last time?

PERSON OF INTEREST: “I have a feeling things about to get more complicated.” Yeah, Finch, I don’t think you’re wrong there. It was a fine return episode, but part of me wishes it had either been a two-hour premiere or we had less threads to follow. I wanted to see more Root locked up; those little pieces were teases. It’s sad to see Carter demoted, and I wonder how long it will be until she takes up Reese on his offer to help.

LUCKY 7: I finally made it through the pilot. So. Yeah.

I enjoyed the B99 epi two as well! I laughed out loud at the ‘about the author’ section of his report, haha. And a lot of other stuff too.

“Why are you talking like a James Taylor song?” was my fave line from NG, and I liked the ep too. Loved the idea of a cool teachers club.

@Sarah: I practically fell over at that photo on the back of the report. SO amazing.
