About Last Night…ARROW, NASHVILLE, AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, and More

A few thoughts on last night’s TV!

ARROW: I’m not the biggest fan week-to-week of the island flashbacks (I feel they work fine, but it’s not something I generally NEED to see every week), but I loved that the show started back off with Oliver back there in the present day. I wish we had gotten a little more time with him there, whether it was solo or with the team, but I’m glad we got it. And how kick ass was that Black Canary scene at the end of the episode???

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE: I think the thing that intrigues me most about the pilot was the decision to have Stephen join Jedikiah at Ultra. I don’t know how long that can work, but the easy thing would have been for Stephen to reject the offer and then it be clear-cut. Now, the lines are a little blurred. I’ve only seen the pilot so far, but I’m curious how the Ultra/TTP/regular life balance will work.

NASHVILLE: What happened to this show? I was glad to see more music last night, but some of the lines were just…so terrible. It was like they had been taken from a book of terrible, cheesy movie cliches. (The writers either need to stop making everything out of Oliver Hudson’s mouth absolutely ridiculous or they need to stop writing for him, period.)

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN: So. Frakked. Up. The rape scene — or arguably, scenes, if you count the very final scene — wasn’t easy to watch, but I’m so excited about where this could go. The cast is just stunning. Now that Kathy Bates isn’t confined to just flashbacks, I’m intrigued by what she and Jessica Lange might get up to. (And did anyone else have a SCREAM 4 flashback with Emma Roberts’ first scene?)

IRONSIDE: I wish more of you were watching IRONSIDE. It’s actually probably the best straight-up procedural to come around in the past few years, and I really like how they’re juggling the elements of the present and the flashbacks to the past. (Holly shoving her uncle’s face in a plate of food? Awe. Some.)
