THE CRAZY ONES: Sarah Michelle Gellar and Tracy Poust on the Difficulty of Filming ‘Simon Roberts Was Here’

January 30, 2014 by

Sarah Michelle Gellar has faced a lot of foes on-screen, but it turns out one thing can render her job a little more difficult: cats.

And, unfortunately for her, tonight’s episode of THE CRAZY ONE has Gellar’s character, Sydney, interacting heavily with a cat.

“They wrote an entire episode — and we hadn’t gotten to script yet — and the new director came down [to talk to us],” Gellar recalled during a recent TCA panel for the show. “It’s kind of awkward [at first], you know, because they’re coming into this family. And he says, ‘By the way, you’re not allergic to cats, are you?’ And I was, like, ‘Ha, ha, I’m deathly allergic to cats.’ And he looks at me, and he’s like, ‘No, really.’ And I’m, like, ‘No. You’re joking, right?”’ And he’s, like, ‘No, you’re joking.’ And then we realize that they’d all written this whole episode, and we’re all allergic to cats.”

But the cast and crew were able to work around the unexpected speed bump, and were able to film the episode in a way that should make it look seamless to unsuspecting viewers.

“You’ve done so much split screen,” executive producer Tracy Poust pointed out to Gellar. “It’s brilliant. I mean, you were never in the room. You were never in the room with the cat…[Viewers] never know [the difference]. And I think [Gellar’s] RINGER work helped us.”
