THE TOMORROW PEOPLE: Phil Klemmer on the Move to Monday Nights

March 17, 2014 by

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE is debuting on its Monday spot tonight, and understandably, some fans are a bit concerned about the shift this late in the season.

To get a little perspective on the move — and what it could mean for the show’s future — when I spoke with THE TOMORROW PEOPLE boss Phil Klemmer about what was to come on the series, I asked him for his take on everything…

“I will say The CW and our studio, Warner Bros., have been nothing but enthusiastic about our show. I’ve never felt so much support, and I feel like we’re all just moving forward in lockstep here. I think we all have the sensation, through no single party’s efforts, but really from everyone’s cooperation, that the show is just getting better, and better, and better. It’s incredible to me that every time an episode comes in, I just feel like a broken record telling people, ‘This is my favorite. No, this is my favorite.’ And it’s actually eerie. I’ve never worked on a show where you don’t get a turkey every so often. I think everybody, they just know what this show is, and our cast are honing in our characters, and our writers, we’re tying up loose ends and coming to this inevitable, epic conclusion.

“The move to Monday nights is a challenge, but I really feel like our fans are going to come with us, and I think they’re going to be rewarded for doing so. Up until the very end, I think the episodes are going to surprise and delight, and there’s sex and death and betrayal and sacrifice. And there are so many surprises ahead, I literally find myself watching episodes and being like, ‘We did that?’ I’m totally humbled by [it all].

“I think the network realizes shows like this don’t come along very often. There really is a lightning strike of serendipity and talent and certainly hard work. And I think we’re going to be going in and pitching a season 2 to them that, like THE GODFATHER, it’s a season that’s pretty hard to refuse.”

THE TOMORROW PEOPLE airs Mondays at 9 PM on The CW.
