24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY: Manny Coto on the Time Jump, the Finale, and More

24-lad-featured

24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY concludes on Monday with a jam-packed finale, and while the hour includes a number of highly emotional scenes and incredible action sequences, the series is also pulling off a first: they’re doing a time jump during the hour to help conclude the day’s events.

“We’ve always had, since pretty early on in the design of the season, the feeling that to do time jumps throughout the season didn’t feel right to us,” 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY executive producer Manny Coto told reporters on a conference call earlier today. “We quickly found that it was easy to — while it’s possible to pause one story for a time jump, 24 is always telling multiple stories. And to pause them all became kind of unwieldy, and we found really slowed momentum. At a certain point we kind of realized where the season was building, and…given [the finale] ending, we knew we wanted…a sequence after [some of the big events], that would take place after people had processed what has happened. We knew that that would be a good place for a 12 hour time jump, and it felt right to do the time jump at that point.”

And while the time jump allows for a degree of closure, in true 24 tradition, every single storyline won’t be neatly tied up.

“Some things are definitely wrapped up, and I think the things that you want to be wrapped up are wrapped up,” Coto teased. “But there are also individuals whose stories aren’t completely closed, if that makes any sense.”

But will the stories that aren’t close-ended be enough to revive 24 again in the future?

“Well, all it really takes is a story that fires us up,” Coto allowed about the show’s future. “That’s what kind of got us excited about doing this season, frankly; the fact that Jack was a fugitive and that we had a really fun and interesting place to start him, and the fact that Chloe was also in a similar situation.  I think what would draw us back, if that were ever to happen — and that’s definitely up in the air — would be: we or somebody presents an interesting take on Jack’s character and where he is, which would suggest a great season.”

What are you hoping to see in the 24 finale? And are you hoping the 24 world is revived again when LIVE ANOTHER DAY is over?

I can’t wait for the finale but I am praying this episode leads to more 24 next season! It is truly the best show ever on tv and being without it these last four years has been sad! Kiefer Sutherland has more then proved that he’s still got it and Chloe was wonderful as usual! I would love to see them both back for more seasons. They make my Mondays worth getting up for!

I’ve loved this show from the beginning, I was disappointed when they couldn’t find a story for Tony Almeida this season but I hope that incourages them or someone like them to write a Tony centre story that involves getting him out of jail.. Again love this show! If it doesnt get picked up for another season Im sure Fox wont mind I end my cable services.

  6. Lynda on July 12th, 2014 11:23 am

YES, please more 24 and more and more. My family and I all agree its the BEST show ever. We never miss it, we text afterwards, we look forward to when its on.
The show gets first priority no matter what else is going on.
By the way, my family consists of 2 adult children, 32 and 35 and myself 61, so you have captured different ages here. We were so excited to learn it was coming back on and lamented last week that it was the finale hoping for more!
    Kiefer is fantastic!
I think I made my point, I hope more people respond. And I have never posted anything like this before, however, this show warrants my time and thumbs up!

The finale should of been 2 hour special then so much of a time jump would not be necessary!
Us 24 fans really want this show to continue listen to the fans an we will never miss a show! Every week I watch each episode twice back to back and watch the encore on Fridays! Can’t get enough 24!
Please do a full season this fall or January! We need our 24!

  8. Phil on July 12th, 2014 11:38 am

24 has been its usual best, it has been sorely missed, and
For the seemingly short time that’s it’s been on its
Drawing to an end. I’m in the UK so don’t get to
Watch it till 2 days after the US.

I truly hope the producers have plenty more
Ideas and sub plots , to make another season. LOVE IT

  9. Sioux on July 12th, 2014 11:39 am

This is the most amazing and action packed non movie on TV. You do not want to miss one episode and you cannot wait til Monday nights. I now got my daughter addicted and I want more too. Please another season!

  10. Romz on July 12th, 2014 11:40 am

If they wont give us a 10th season, at least have a spin-off with Yvonne Strahovski. Kate Morgan can then break Tony Almeida out of prison. Wouldn’t that be awesome? They can even mix in Adam Balwin if they want higher ratings. I bet the nerd herders would definitely watch that.

  11. Phyllis Hudson on July 12th, 2014 11:44 am

I have been watching 24 from the beginning and there is not a series out there that has kept me on the edge of my seat the way that the series does. I look forward to every Monday night now. We need more of 24!!! I would like to see a full season of 24. Jack and Chloe really make the show. I would like to see Audrey and Jack back together!!! Bring on more 24 PLEASE!!!

  12. Diego on July 12th, 2014 11:47 am

    JUST MAKE ANOTHER SEASON!

  13. Sharon on July 12th, 2014 11:51 am

YES – another season!! I have missed this show SO much!! Best show on TV – had very few bad seasons. Never missed it. Already depressed thinking it will be gone again. PLEASE give us at least one more season. There’s so much garbage on TV, how can you let such a great show end?

  14. Jamie on July 12th, 2014 11:55 am

Loved it but got to say I’m worried for Jack after seeing an article in the paper gave the impression Jack may not make it to the end. Please tell me I’m wrong

  15. Paula Klepitch on July 12th, 2014 11:57 am

All i can say is…..i want more! I can’t imagine never seeing it again. Sooi sad!! 🙁

  16. Tyler Leed on July 12th, 2014 12:04 pm

I freaking love 24!! Give us more Jack and bring Kate back for more! This season was way too short

  17. Jacqueline A Lewis on July 12th, 2014 12:15 pm

I can’t wait for Monday night finale – but I’m asking on bended knees – Please bring our Jack Bower back !!! We fans had to wait a long time for it’s return, I look forward to it, and love Chloe.

  18. Carol Du Kett-Cotts on July 12th, 2014 12:49 pm

My family knows that I will not answer my telephone or answer my door when this show is running….I absolutely love the cutting edge of “24” and it’s timely and all too plausible plots evolve. Needless to say “Live Another Day” is, as is usual and reliable, a wonderful story line and fast paced action. It is with great anticipation that I will watch the finale Monday night, and also with deep regret that we will again be bereft of our “24” excellence in entertainment and actual deeper thought processes! Salute to the cast, crew, and leadership of yet another “24” super program!

  19. Sharon on July 12th, 2014 12:59 pm

Yes, please! More, more, more! This show should be never-ending! It is the best, most well-written show EVER!!!!!

  20. Janet on July 12th, 2014 1:00 pm

Ditto what everyone else said. I don’t answer the phone no matter who’s calling. everyone knows they’re not permitted to call me anyway. I’ve been an addict since season 1. I literally sit on the edge of my seat and shake my fists in the air during the show, and have to take a sleeping pill afterwards cause I can’t wind down afterwards! I love it!!!!! Please bring it back!!!!!

  21. jerry rogers on July 12th, 2014 1:09 pm

Got to be the best thriller ever on tv Fox would be dumb to not bring it back next year More 24 please

  22. Ciro Ochoa jr on July 12th, 2014 1:19 pm

  23. Joan on July 12th, 2014 1:22 pm

I love 24! I think the finale deserves 2 hours tho. 24 is what I look forward to on Monday nights. I wish it was not ending. Definatley hope it comes back at some point. Keeps one riveted to the TV. Great show.

  24. Pete on July 12th, 2014 1:42 pm

    DAMMIT….we want more!

  25. J.R. on July 12th, 2014 1:49 pm

This is a passionate plea, much like those expressed before: don’t let “24” fade away and don’t let the Jack Bower character die. Reason: it’s a well thought out designed character and storyline and works! Very few shows really resonate with people like “24” and those that do, live long lives. Also, Kiefer best think about the fact it’s a good paycheck. He’s tried other shows and they’ve not worked out so well. And keep Chloe. She’s a keeper as characters go and has lots to offer. Also, keep the new gal Kate. She works well with Jack and would add be a great compliment to his character’s drive. Not to mention — she can pick up some of the stunts that his aging body may no longer wish to do. Kate would allow writers to develop new avenues for Jack. I see lots of possibilities! I hope the writers and Kiefer do as well! And lastly, if they choose to do shorter series, that’s still good too. With the new mix of characters brought out in these 12 hours, it can be done and still be fresh!

Ok —- it’s all worked out! Don’t disappoint us! Keep “24” coming! And thank you for bringing us such a truly great show!

  26. Smitty on July 12th, 2014 1:51 pm

I’m looking forward to the finale and hoping that there is more to come. What drew me to 24 early on is how closely the writers tied in what was happening in the world at that point in time then dropped Jack into the mix. I actually think this is a BIG universal appeal of 24. People want to see Jack inserted to at least bring his brand of justice to the chaos we see daily in the news. So…in the next series perhaps Jack w/ his pardon from Heller gets back to the US actually has a few episodes to be ‘normal’ w/ his family etc in southern CA but eventally gets tapped by CTI to thwart some crazy border stuff going on w/ ties to terrorism. Sound real? No matter what they decide to do, there’s a lot of us that will never get enough Jack! See everyone Monday night!

  27. Alfredo on July 12th, 2014 2:12 pm

I loved the show 24 and I’m glad it’s back. I’m hoping it comes back again. Best show ever!

  30. Maggie on July 12th, 2014 4:18 pm

I have poted many commments in the past about “24”. It is simply the best show that has ever been on TV. No other show has demanded that I be in my living room chair on Monday night liike this show has. No other show has kept me intrigued, excited and completely exhausted after watching one of Jack’s pulse-pounding chase scenes. It is the only TV show that I’ve purchased every season including 24: Redemption. Every suummer when there’ nothing but re-runs, I can always pop in a season of “24” to get a thrilling fill of multiple storylines, ruthless terrorists, the surprise mole and unexpected “twists”! I love watching how Jack, often disavowed by his country, always makes his entry back into a crisis situation in which the realization that no one and I mean no one can pry open, infiltrate and clean up a problem like he can! “Redemption” proved a 2 hr format is possible but that was ultimately a lead-in to the next season. 2 hrs of “24” will never be enough for true fans. This season’s 12 episodes weren’t enough! I hope they do more, they probably won’t – given the endless, mindless reality shows that permeate TV but I always have my “24” on dvd to fall back on!

  31. Mario Arocha on July 12th, 2014 6:18 pm

24 keeps us glued here in the Philippines! The series is soooo short.!We want more of it. It’s one show that keeps Philippine television alive in spite of the penchant of TV stations here to bombard us with korean telenovelas!

  32. Bill on July 12th, 2014 6:22 pm

I’ve always loved 24. Jack and Chloe are wonderful. I will be disappointed if Jack doesn’t kill Cheng.

  33. Cindy Stormark on July 12th, 2014 6:59 pm

24 is one of Fox’s greatest sows. Please do not make us wait another 4 years. I might be dead by then! Love Keifer Sutherland and the writers are the best!

Please do more seasons of 24. My family has been waiting patiently all these years for Jack to return. This is the best show and has been for years. I can’t go to sleep after these episodes. My mind is going like crazy thinking about what I just saw and what is going to happen next. I beg of you please don’t take 24 away from all the followers. Thank-you for listening. Linda Burzynski

  38. Marilyn Meyer on July 13th, 2014 2:02 am

i am a 73 year old grandma who has loved every single episode of 24 since the beginning. Life does not feel complete unless Jack Bauer is in it. My old college friends and I discuss it and feel like the cast of characters are part of our families. It’s a sad, sad time when 24 is not running. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime, which carries the complete show, all the seasons. It’s worth the membership price to be able to watch “24” whenever you want to. If Keifer Sutherland is willing to do more shows, there’s no question that it should continue. You know it would boost FOX’s ratings during prime time.

  39. janet on July 13th, 2014 2:07 am

I want to thank you for giving the fans these wonderful action packed 12 hours. My husband and I have loved each and every episode. We are diehard fans and have watched and own all the past seasons of 24. This was so much better than just a 2 hour movie which I know was a consideration for a long time. I realize it might not be possible to do a full season again but even an occasional 12 episode revival would be wonderful. I think you have found out there is still a huge audience base. Thank you again for bringing Jack and chloe back. Loved it all and cannot wait for the finale.

Hands down, no discussion needed, 24 is the BEST show ever made. I try to sit on my couch, but it doesn’t work. My butt is always up in the air. I stand up while 24 is on. I don’t know if my phone rings or not. I really don’t care. I have all the 24 season disc set. Life is really good. And yes, more, more, more, 24 !!!
