CASTLE: David Amann Teases Castle and Beckett’s ‘Honeymoon’ in ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’

CASTLE’s Castle and Beckett got married in an adorably perfect/fitting ceremony in the latest episode of the series, and naturally, next up is a honeymoon. Unfortunately for the duo, it’s not their real honeymoon — they go undercover at a dude ranch to try and solve a case.

And while going undercover might sound like they’re going all out with fake names/personas, etc., CASTLE showrunner David Amann noted that the circumstances of the case will allow the two to keep things a little bit more simple than a traditional undercover assignment.

“Because they’re in a different part of the country, they’re not necessarily known in the same way,” he pointed out. “So [while going undercover] they use their actual names. But they’re not representing their true purpose for being there, which is to try and solve a murder, where the body ultimately ends up in New York, but it’s traced back to this dude ranch in the west.”

But just because the duo is trying to solve the crime, that doesn’t mean they don’t find a few ways to enjoy their new surroundings.

“Let’s put it this way: I think — partially because they have to — they embrace the culture of the dude ranch,” Amann teased. “Which includes dressing up in period clothes, and carrying on with the period [tasks] of the day. So there’s a lot of fun to be had in this episode, as they’re enjoying a bit of time away from the precinct, but at the same time, solving a case.”

Are you excited to see CASTLE’s honeymoon? And do you think Castle or Beckett is going to be better at dude ranch life?!

CASTLE airs Mondays at 10 PM on ABC.

I call bs that they can be themselves and this is why..
    1. Castle is a best selling novelist that his books are sold worldwide.
    2. He was just missing and his face was everywhere TV,newspapers, etc. And other countries seeing how Kate was speaking in French on the phone.
    3. I’m sorry did I dream that she announced their wedding announcement in a major new York paper.
    4. Are we now to believe that the world doesn’t know that Richard Castle follows around KB for research. And in previous seasons they were in Cosmo together.
Bottom line. Unless this dude ranch is in the amazon jungle people know who these two are. This is ludacris. I understand its a TV show. But the plot holes are getting so big you can lose a mack truck in them. Come on Amann

I agree 100%! Let’s not forget the “Richard Castle Lottery” where he offered 250K for any information about his disappearance, on talk show no less. At this point any plot/case that involves C and B having anonymity at all is ridiculous. The show has always had issues with believably but it’s beginning to reach levels that would far surpass suspension of disbelief for any viewer.

Well unfortunately, I have to agree. And if the ratings are any indicator, it certainly shows that the fans waning “tolerance” for the shows lack of continuity, unbelievable plots, two horrible season finales in a row and general lack of Caskett. (Last epi excluded) Ratings don’t lie people.

my thoughts exactly Elizabeth. Not sure why they are choosing a tired, old plot device like a dude ranch anyway. Oh wait- because it’s so perfect for the Caskett mythology. Errrrrrrr…..NOT. Loved the wedding episode like I loved Still. But looks like they are planning a trip down the same path. Awesome to absurd. Anyone recall the Episode that shall not be named? (squab). I hoped storyline issues might resolve themselves with a new show runner. Guess that’s not happening.

They are going AS themselves. That actually does make sense because of course they can’t pretend being other people. And they can pretend that they are just there for fun as tourists. Not everywhere they go they solve cases. That’s like saying real policmen are always investigating and never take a vacation. Castle and beckett go out for fun all the time in between cases (e.g. ski trip, karaoke in Hamptons, going out for jazz etc). They will just be pretending to act like a normal couple while secretly investigating. It can work. Nth bs abt this.
    Gahh so much nitpicking.
Anyway I already love the sound of this ep. Can’t wait. XD

I’m with you, rash, 100%. I can’t wait for the episode and it looks like it’s going to be lots of fun. I have this really strange attitude. When I watch a fictional TV show, I allow for a lot of “plot holes” as long as they carry the story forward. Let’s face it. Watch any number of cop shows and sooner or later, there are going to be episodes in which the lead of the show is in terrible danger – kidnapped, threatened, whatever, and that probably happens closer to never than often. But, it makes for a good story on a TV SHOW. If you’re looking for a show that never stretches the limit of believability, you might want to check out Discovery Channel or MSNBC – well maybe not MSNBC!

  7. rash on November 14th, 2014 2:12 pm

    Hahaha hooleo, agreed.
Also….the whole premise of this show, writer following. Realistic? Hell no. Fun? HELL YES!

….And for all its worth, I intend to enjoy all the rest of the episodes of this
Season 7 remaining….. Just in case there is no 8th. The Twists, Turns, Plot holes, believability or not, all the negatives & positives and so forth and so on is not that
Important to me anymore. I just want to see SK/NF do their thing ON SCREEN
And i’m happy. I’ll really miss them when it’s over!!!

Well, unfortunately, I have to agree with the first comment (Elizabeth). And if ratings are any indicator, it certainly shows the fans waning “tolerance” for the show’s lack of continuity, unbelievable plots, two horrible season finales in a row and general lack of caskett. (Last epi excluded) Ratings don’t lie people.

Okay, I am not saying I agree or disagree with anyone here but…this is what the article says:
“Because they’re in a different part of the country, they’re not necessarily known in the same way,” and that makes no sense. As posters above stated, there is no where they should be able to go (esp. in the US) where they would not be reconginzed. If they are there under the guise of “vacation” while investing a case that is not the issue here. It’s that the above statement makes it seems as though just because they are not in NY, people are not aware of who they are and what they do for a living. A detective and a mystery writer, solving crimes together.

I thought their wedding did not do justice to the characters or the fans. Simpler than 300 people; yes. Not one word from Kate’s dad, no Aunt Teresa and no friends; no. And the prom picture background; whoa. But this western episode looks really funny. Any guy that gets into a duel with Kate will be so distracted that he is guaranteed to lose. The sneak peeks show Lanie chewing out Kate because she did not invite her to the wedding; Ryan and Espo taking off with the wagon; and Kate saving Castle from a snake. I am really looking forward to my suspension of disbelief for this one.

  12. JLynn on November 14th, 2014 6:27 pm

One more Castle wedding comment. In the Castle universe the wedding was sometime between October and Christmas. New York City gets cold in the fall and winter. It is not Los Angeles. So why weren’t they shivering a bit given the clothes they were wearing? Kate looked great in her pantsuit but it had an open midriff. They must have been basking in the warm glow of that radiant sun.

  13. Susan on November 14th, 2014 8:09 pm

I might be able to believe that Kate Beckett doesn’t need to change her name, but not Richard Castle. Given his recent history his name should be very recognizable. I really hope this is where the plot holes end because I have really been looking forward to this episode and TPW is my favorite Castle writer.

Ive watched Castle since its inception, and love it; however, IMO, the plots and script writing have deteriorated in the last year. Time for fresh blood? Both leads are being given twaddle for parts – – not like previous seasons.

If this keeps up, the NCIS spin-off on CBS will eat their lunch.
