DOCTOR WHO: Steven Moffat Teases Maisie Williams’ Role

GAME OF THRONES’ Maisie Williams will have a high-profile guest spot between seasons: she’ll pop up on DOCTOR WHO.

“I think, once you see what she’s up to in the show, you’ll appreciate what a clever idea of [executive producer] Brian Minchin’s…who thought of Maisie for this part,” Steven Moffat told reporters during the DOCTOR WHO panel at the Television Critics Association tour. “And I think it’s a significant role. We are not throwing her away. You know, we are not just getting the star value and doing nothing with it. It’s a great part, and she’s terrific in it. But I would say it will develop in unexpected ways.”

And with that, Moffat also sought out to correct one misconception about Williams’ character: that she’s playing a character that has already been introduced.

“One thing I think is worth saying because it keeps coming up as an issue: she is not playing a returning character,” he said. “She is a brand new character. She’s not someone from the Doctor’s past — unless I’m lying.”

Who do you think Williams is playing?

Starz has renewed BLACK SAILS for a fourth season, the network announced during its Television Critics Association session.

The news comes months before season 3 even debuts on the network.

While the network didn’t give any clue about what’s in store for season 4, they did tease that “the ten-episode third season of the authentic high seas drama series, returning in 2016, follows the most feared pirate of the day, Captain Flint (Toby Stephens), and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Treasure Island.” Season three has seen the addition of Ray Stevenson (‘Rome,” Insurgent, Divergent) as the iconic pirate ‘Blackbeard.’”

Comments Off on BBC America Adds UNDERCOVER and THIRTEEN

BBC America has added two new shows to its 2016 lineup: UNDERCOVER and THIRTEEN. The co-productions (with AMC Networks) were announced at the Television Critics Association.

“The BBC is a creative powerhouse and we’re delighted to partner with them on these provocative,   contemporary stories,” said Sarah Barnett, President and General Manager, BBC America, in a statement. “[UNDERCOVER boss] Peter Moffat is one of the UK’s most vibrant and acclaimed screenwriters, while new talent Marnie Dickens brings a singular voice and perspective to her first original series [THIRTEEN]. We can’t wait to launch these shows on the network.”

Per BBC America, UNDERCOVER is a six part limited series, which features lead character Maya (Sophie Okonedo) who is “about to become the first black woman to hold the highest ranking public prosecutor role in England.

“Just as her life comes under intense public scrutiny she discovers her husband Nick (Lester), and the father of her children, has been lying to her for years. Is he concealing an affair, or is it something altogether more sinister? If she digs up his real past will she jeopardize her own future? What price do you pay for uncovering lies? And who wants her in the top job, and why?”

“I’m relishing the prospect of returning to the contemporary British political landscape to look at where we stand and how we got here,” Moffat said. “UNDERCOVER is a thriller about identity, trust and the struggle to lead a morally principled personal and professional life, while working up close with the police, press, politicians and criminals who have so corrupted and damaged public life over the last 20 years.”

SCORPION: Kevin Weisman Joins Season 2

July 29, 2015 by

Kevin Weisman (ALIAS, HELLO LADIES) has landed a recurring role on SCORPION.

“We are so excited to have Kevin join SCORPION this season,” SCORPION executive producer Nick Santora said in a statement. “As Ray, Walter’s new buddy from community service, Kevin is going to bring a completely different viewpoint to Walter’s life – he’s not a genius – in fact he probably has below average intelligence. He’s odd and a bit ‘off’ but for some reason, Walter learns to like the guy and we get to see Walter O’Brien make a non-genius friend outside of Scorpion. But Ray’s unique approach to life is something Walter and the gang have to adjust to, and that won’t always be that easy to do.”

The role is a reunion of sorts for Weisman and SCORPION producers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci — the trio worked together from 2001-2004 on ALIAS.

Weisman broke his casting by posting an on-set photo on Instagram.

Weisman isn’t the only new face joining SCORPION’s upcoming second season: Alana De La Garza was previously announced in the recurring role of the new head of Homeland Security, and rockstar Gene Simmons will guest star in the season premiere.

SCORPION returns Monday, September 21st at 9 PM.
