John Legend—who just attained EGOT status with his Emmy win for NBC’s JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR—has joined THE VOICE season 16, NBC confirmed. The cycle will air Spring 2019.

Original coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, as well as returning coach Kelly Clarkson (who won her inaugural year with season 14; she’s also a part of the upcoming season 15) are also signed on for the spring cycle.

“John Legend is a one-of-a-kind musician and producer with remarkable skills that are beyond measure,” said Paul Telegdy, President, Alternative and Reality Group, NBC Entertainment, in a statement. “His multi-dimensional career and incredible talents provide a repertoire that will excite and inspire our artists. This coaching panel is sure to ignite season 16.”

“I’m thrilled to join the coaches of THE VOICE,” Legend added. “I’ve been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL.”

Legend and Clarkson previously collaborated on the reality competition DUETS, and “Run Run Run,” a song from Clarkson’s 2015 album.

The Hollywood Reporter was first to report Legend’s role on THE VOICE.
