Will Kelly Clarkson’s New Talk Show Impact Her Future on THE VOICE?

Kelly Clarkson has an extraordinarily busy 2019 on tap: so far she’s announced a tour for her album “Meaning of Life,” season 16 of THE VOICE, and a brand new talk show.

But with that crazy schedule comes uncertainty about her future with THE VOICE beyond Spring 2019. “It remains to be seen, to be honest with you,” THE VOICE executive producer Audrey Morrissey told reporters. “The fortunate thing is the show is being done by Universal and we’re NBC, so we’re just a stone’s throw away from each other’s offices to work out a schedule.”

What could also help is THE VOICE’s advanced production schedule: season 16 is set to start its earliest filming next month; a good chunk of season 17 would be filmed in summer.

Morrissey also pointed to Clarkson herself as a reason why viewers might be getting a double dose of the songstress on television. “Kelly is someone who is up for work,” she said. “She doesn’t shy away from working hard, or going the extra mile. [THE VOICE season 14 winner] Brynn [Cartelli, who was on Team Kelly] can attest to that. In between hosting the Billboard awards and I think it was our finale week, it was unbelievable—she was hiring special planes to get herself where she needed to be. And yet allowed herself the time to be with Brynn in special recording studios to record her single. If anybody can do it, it’s Kelly. I don’t know what [the talk show will] bring, but we’ll figure it out.”
