SUPERSTORE Season 4 Premiere: Justin Spitzer Teases the Awkward Ramifications of Amy and Jonah’s Tape

When SUPERSTORE concluded its third season, Jonah (Ben Feldman) and Amy (America Ferrera) were caught with their pants down—literally—when their photo lab tryst when viral, thanks to a worldwide Cloud 9 live-stream.

“The premiere is about checking back in with Jonah and Amy a number of months since the finale happened,” executive producer Justin Spitzer teases. “They were suspended [because of the live-stream] and now it’s their first day back. Dealing with, yes, seeing each other, but also the incredible awkwardness of dealing with other people, because everyone knows they’ve had sex. And how a woman is treated differently than a man.”

Unfortunately for the duo, that’s not their only problem: it’s also Back to School time, which has led to some mayhem in the store. “We’re always aware of the airdates and what might be happening seasonally around then,” Spitzer allows. “In the pilot, they reference Back to School vaguely in it, but then it ended up airing a little later [in the season]. So we’ve never aired a Back to School episode during [the real time]. It just seemed like what’s one more thing you don’t need on your first day back? It’s already hell; what is that topper that makes the timing terrible? And if you talk to people in retail, the two crazy times of the year are Black Friday and Back to School.”

Poor Jonah and Amy…it sounds like the opposite of a heavenly day.
