Alexi Hawley has been steadily working for the past decade, but he acknowledges his time on CASTLE was special.

“The people, definitely [stand out],” he says. “It really was a family. That’s the biggest part: the cast and the crew and the writers I worked with. A lot of them are still friends of mine.”

Hawley had two stints on the ABC series (which turned 10 on March 9): from 2009-2012, and then he returned for the final season as co-showrunner. (He now runs THE ROOKIE, which both stars Nathan Fillion, and includes a gaggle of former CASTLE writers and crew on staff.)

“[CASTLE] was a fun show to work on, because it was steeped in character, it was steeped in a comedy, but also in relationships,” Hawley admits. “Nathan and Stana [Katic] were so good. It really can’t be dismissed, and I think part of what made that show so special, was [Castle’s] family life: Susan [Sullivan] and Molly [Quinn, who played his mother and daughter, respectively]. I think that’s what grounded it with heart. You don’t see a lot of that on television: a healthy home life, that’s done with a tongue-in-cheek irreverence, but at the same time genuine emotion.”
