DAISY JONES & THE SIX: Jennifer Beals, Judy Greer Open to Appearing in Amazon Adaptation

DAISY JONES & THE SIX, the wildly addictive book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, is being adapted by Amazon Prime as a 13-episode limited series.

But prior to that hitting our televisions, the (incredible) Audible audiobook nabbed an all-star cast to read the story about the rise and fall of the fictional band Daisy Jones & The Six: Jennifer Beals (Daisy Jones), Pablo Schreiber (Billy Dunne), Benjamin Bratt (Graham Dunne), Judy Greer (Karen Karen), Fred Berman (Eddie Loving), Ari Fliakos (Warren Rhodes), Julia Whelan (Narrator/Author) and January LaVoy (Camila Dunne).

Though Greer is working on multiple projects, including Showtime’s KIDDING, which she paneled at the network’s Television Critics Association day, she admitted she was shocked by the attention she’s gotten for the audiobook. “Who knew? I get so much love from that!” she said with a laugh, while speaking with reporters.

“I loved the book,” she recalled, noting she found out later she shared a mutual friend with Reid. “Weirdly, I’m getting so much love from it. I didn’t anticipate it; I’m thrilled. I’m thrilled for the author, [plus] I’m happy people are reading and listening to books. All of the things! I’m a big fan of Audible; I listen to a lot of my books right now.”

Beals, who is also juggling multiple projects, including the upcoming THE L WORD sequel THE L WORD: GENERATION Q, spoke to her SWAMP THING co-star Will Patton, who has narrated a number of audiobooks. “I was like, talk to me about this process because I’ve never done this before,” she recalled.

But when she got in the booth, the process was smooth. “It was so fantastic,” she gushed. “And it was really like eight hours in the room, reading it over and over again. And they were like, ‘You don’t have to reread passages, you can just read the whole thing through.’ And I said, ‘No, I have to get the whole thing right; I don’t think I got it right then.’ And so I would go over and over certain passages. It was like an eight-hour meditation, an eight-hour play. You’re so deeply ensconced in that person. And because it’s Daisy, it’s really fantastic.”

With Amazon’s live-action adaptation in the pre-production stages, Beals noted she wouldn’t be able to reprise her role (“She’s 20-something years old!”), she is open to finding another way into the new world. “I would love to have a walk-on; that would be fun,” she said. “It would be pretty neat.”

Greer echoed both sentiments: “They are welcome to [reach out]; feel free! I have some time off.”
