As ARROW heads into its final season, Oliver (Stephen Amell) is in one of his toughest spots yet: he’s left his family to go with The Monitor, in theory, to sacrifice himself in the upcoming “Crisis” arc.

While that would be enough to send most into a spiral, Oliver’s mental headspace is “good,” Amell told reporters in the video below. “When I read the premiere, I talked with [executive producers] Marc [Guggenheim] and Beth [Schwartz] a bunch, because I didn’t want him to spend the entire season morose.”

“It was my thought that, yeah, he had to leave his wife and he had to leave his infant child,” he continues. “And he had to leave William. And, theoretically, he had to leave Diggle and Thea and all of the people that are important in his life. But I want him to be strong. It’s important to me that when Felicity says, ‘Whatever happens, I’ll find you.’ If he believes that, he can march forward.”

Watch the video below for more from Amell, including why he won’t totally rule out reprising his role of Oliver in the future…
