AMERICA’S BEST DANCE CREW: Whack Track Challenge

February 6, 2009 by

Last night the remaining crews shimmied and shook to some of the worst (and by worst I mean BEST) dance crazes of the 90’s.  It wasn’t the strongest night of the show, but I don’t think the challenge was particularly inspired. And why oh why was no one given NSync’s “Bye Bye Bye” moves? That would have been classic!

If I were judging last night’s content, my top “y’all” would have gone to Strikers All Stars.  Y’alls take on MC Hammer’s 2 Legit 2 Quit was strong and full of energy.  Y’alls tore it up.  (Ok I’m done with the y’alls now…y’all here).

But with Strikers getting my 1st place finish last night, which crew came in second?  That would be my boys in Quest crew.  As always I loved their choreography and performance but I felt it was a little more scattered than it had been in week’s past.  That being said, Hok’s upside down fakeout at the beginning was awesome!

I like The Beat Freaks more and more with each week.  Again, this wasn’t my favorite performance of theirs, but I thought they had a lot of fun doing it.  The fangirl freakout at the end was pretty damn funny.  JC- you hate it, but you were the ultimate boy bander my friend.  But these girls, yeah they would have never been into you.

Dynamic Edition started off crazy good. Whether you like their style or not, they are really amazing at their style.  They are always so in step with each other (no pun intended). But I have to say that they faltered the further they got into the hip hop.  I like what Shane had to say about them performing in their own style, but I think it’s not always easy when they are given these hip hop numbers to choreograph to.  But for being so different, this crew is still kicking it and has never been in the bottom two.  They’re getting the votes.

For the first time this season, I didn’t see a cheerleading group on stage watching The Fly Khicks.  I still think they use their sexuality a bit too much, and they can’t hold a candle to The Beat Freaks, but they had some interesting (if not well executed) moves last night. I’m glad they are staying around one more week.  But I think it’s buh buh bye to them.

I’m going to go ahead and applaud The Ringmasters for bringing much more choreo to this week’s routine.  They didn’t just rely on their bone crushing moves.  Unfortunately they couldn’t get it together.  I can’t believe that none of the judges called them out on being so out of sync with each other.  It’s the Marcarena…little kids could do it.

In the end, we said goodbye to The Ringmasters.  I think it was there time to go.  Bring the pride home to Brooklyn, y’alls (sorry I couldn’t resist).

I’m still holding to my Week One truth that Quest Crew will win it all, but I think it might be Strikers All Stars pushing them to the spot.  God I love this show.

After watching both of the bottom two performances, I thought it was time that the Ringmasters head home, and so did the judges. Then, they started that clips package and I was a bawling baby. Damn them for messing with my emotions! 🙂 Also, in terms of the no *NSync, they actually did an all *NSync performance week in the first season, I think, so doing one again might have been a bit overkill.

I agree that it was definitely The Ringmasters week to leave. They are good at what they do, but not strong enough in the choreography to stay. Even with getting better, it was too little, too late. They were all over the place with their Macarena…it was crazy! The whole breaking thing is a cool trick, but it does get old.
I agree that Strikers All Stars were great. I love how JC said they weren’t clean and then Lil Mama said she agreed with him and talked about how clean they were. LOL! Kath, did the boys going all Chippendales have anything to do with their top spot this week? Just kidding! They were great.
I did love the Quest crew this week. I think they just show so much versatility in their choreography (we know Ryan, Dom, and Hok can do so much more!!!). I also love their sense of humor. Dom really has a problem with dropping his drawers, though! 😉
I didn’t think that this was the best week for the Beat Freaks. I loved the head spins, that was bnoodles. Kaylee, the girl that did the Rerun style locking section, was not that great. Also, when watching that video (Pretty Fly for a White Guy), I did not feel that the kid was doing the traditional “Carlton” dance. Technicality… All in all, it was a “cute” performance for me this week.
People on the message boards are saying that now they know the show is rigged due to the fact that Dynamic Edition got the Billy Ray Cyrus song this week, but truthfully, I think they would have preferred to have gotten a more hip hop type song so that they could show more hip hop than country. They did great and I love that (some) people are being open minded about them. It is called America’s Best Dance Crew and they really are talented. I don’t think they’ll be at the finale, but they deserve to still be on the show!
The Fly Khicks are good dancers, but still have that NBA cheerleader style. They do bring the sexy, but I don’t know how much longer it will hold them.
I think the bottom 2 next week will be Fly Khicks and Dynamic Edition.
I am still thinking it will be a Quest Crew/Beat Freaks finale!

Ah Sara V, thanks for the heads up on NSync week. This is my first season watching.
