CHUCK Saved!! NBC Renews CHUCK for S3

May 17, 2009 by

NBC will announce on Tuesday that CHUCK will be back for a third season! Congratulations to the cast, crew and all the fans that came together to make a difference.  You were heard!

I’m going to concentrate on the good news, that being CHUCK is back.  But there’s a bit of bad news too.  Sources say the show will only be back for 13 episodes next season rather than the full 22 episodes.  But hey, it’s coming back and that’s a win!

According to Variety, the NBC and Warner Bros made some concessions including budget cuts to make the final deal. How those budget cuts will play out is TBD.

More details coming soon…

I think the worst thing we could do right now would be to let up on our CHUCK chatter.  Let’s continue to do what we can to try to get new fans for next season. Lend out your DVDs and keep talking up the show.

“NBC and Warner Bros. TV were close to finalizing a third-season renewal deal on Sunday for the action-comedy that has a modest but passionate fanbase.” — Quote from the linked to Variety article

That Variety article can’t seem to make up it’s mind in what it’s trying to say.

Still waiting for an official announcement before getting excited.

Are you serious? This is fantastic. About damn time. GMMR thank you so much for getting things started with the Save Chuck campaign. You brought so much attention to the efforts to save the show. It seemed that once you started calling people together everything really took off. I hope the people behind the scenes of the show thank you properly (maybe they’ll bring you back to the set next season). On behalf of the fans, thanks for everything.

As for the 13 episode season, is that a definite? What if the ratings were awesome, could NBC pick up the show for more episodes? Do you think we are going to lose any cast members because of the budget cuts you mentioned? I am nervous.

    YAY and Thank You!

WOO HOO!!! This is the best day! I’m a late comer to CHUCK but it quickly became one of my favorite shows on TV. So glad it will be back next summer.

I couldn’t be more excited either!!!

Reina, thank you so much for your kind words but it’s important to remember that it was a team effort. People started the Save Chuck efforts before me and others, like Wendy “the Subway girl” (as she’ll forever be know) and other sites did more after. I was just happy to contribute in any way I can.

I don’t care who did what as long as it means NBC and WBTV reached a deal!

I go to the movies and I come back to this news? What a great way to start the week. Chuck is a great show. I can’t wait for more Yvonne each week.

I FEAR CHUCK WILL END UP LIKE JERICHO! We definitely need to promote the heck out of Chuck, the ‘Chuck’ campaigns should not stop now, just because it has been picking up for 13 episodes, i dont want this show to end up like Jericho, and it could end that way. We should not only lend our CHUCK DVDs out to friends and family, but we should go the extra step and purchase Season one of Chuck for our family and friends, and at only 19.99 at most stores (Target, Walmart, Best Buy…etc) it’s quite doable. And why not? Why stop at the 5 dollar footlong?

Yeah the economy is in the gutter right now, but, consider this, for those who bought the 5 dollar footlong, a vast majority bought more than just one sandwich that night for the show’s finale. Most bought dinner for the family, which in total would be around 20 bucks.

So yeah, I recently just bought my cousin Chucks season 1 dvd, and he is now waiting patiently for the season 2 set to come out.

Hopefully the official anouncment will say that it an initiall 13 episodes with the possibility of more depending on ratings. Over here in the UK I can’t wait.

The other part of the rumour of chacter cuts, easy get rid of big Mike and Emmett, make Morgan bos a Bye More, this keeps Jeffster and Anna (who’s Kung Fu skills could be used again either as deep undercover Fulcrum agent verus Chuck or another comedy scene where Chuck, Sarah and Anna all fight off a band of Fulcrum baddies while Morgan stands by gobsmaked). No need so much Eliie & awesome (however much I like Sarah Lancaster) quality scenes not quantity. What ever happens Chuck and Sarah become more equals throughout the series as Chuck’s additional skill manifest and they get together by the end of the Series.

Wow! I love the fact that I’m rest assured of more Chuck episodes. I’ll definitely be continuing to spread the word on Chuck and my friends will also do it as well. I’m hoping for Chuck to get the back 9 for a full 22 episode or more for the 3rd season. I can’t wait! Thank you Kath for helping putting the campaign into the limelight. We did it! 🙂

I am so excited. This is AWESOME!!!!! I wholeheartedly agree with Ron (above) on using the summer to recruit new viewers. Anyone know what we are going to get from NBC for re-runs, best of marathons, etc? I have so many friends who never heard of Chuck, so I loan them my DVDs and they are hooked. We went viral with the save/renew campaigns, so I think we need the schedule and spread the word!
    Can YOU be AWESOME?

  13. Ryan on May 18th, 2009 12:13 pm

Great News!!! Thanks everybody for working so hard on getting the show back. I’m still loaning my dvd’s out so next season will have an even bigger fan base.

  14. Lynzee on May 18th, 2009 12:42 pm

Bittersweet news. I fear a ‘Jerico’ situation where they tease us with a renewal, but then the whole season is just building up to a goodbye. Time to rally around our show. If we haven’t bought the DVDs yet, this summer is the time. KEEP watching reruns on NBC.com where your view can be counted. Hopefully this shortened season will be a temporary setback. But HUZZAH for a renewal!

Great job everyone! Good to know that the fans CAN be heard!

  15. Kimber on May 18th, 2009 12:58 pm

Woo hoo! That’s the best news in the world! I’m so glad that NBC is giving Chuck a chance to come back, but hopefully not to just “wrap things up” before being canceled! Here’s hoping for a larger fan base, more attention, and maybe a FULL fourth season!

  16. Hannah on May 18th, 2009 6:38 pm

I’m so glad Chuck is back. That show is the only good thing about my Monday. Me and my family adore Chuck! They can’t let Chuck go!!!!!!!! We do not want another “Jericho”.

I watched the first season over my university’s winter break but I never quite caught up with second season while at school. This summer I will definitely catch up. And I’ll lend my first season DVDs to friends who I will hook on the show. I’m so happy it got renewed because now I have something to work toward!

So excited Chuck is back, such a fun show! Hey NBC-you need to keep this one. With all the garbage on TV now, we need some family fun shows.

Love the Chuck! Great writers, great program. I’m sick the inane programming I pay and suffer for, this is one program they should have on and on. The best chance for keeping Chuck is to threaten, and carry through with boycotting products that sponsors peddle on the channel carrying it. \

In the past, stats show sponsors get nervous when threatened with boycotts on their products. I carry though with my threats, and avoid purchasing many products. I am very sick and tired of Reality (sucks) programs that I am forced to pay for. If Chuck gets cancelled, I just may opt for TIVO, so I can cut out advertising altogether.

Мысль никогда не должна подчиняться ни догме, ни направлению, ни страсти, ни интересу, ни предвзятой идее, ни чему бы то ни было, кроме фактов, потому что для нее подчинится — значило бы перестать существовать.
