Gage Whitney Shout Out

Just a throw back or something more? I’m watching Studio 60 and there is an attorney working on a law suit, and she just happens to be from the law offices of Gage Whitney. If I recall, Sam Seaborn was with Gage Whitney before joining the Bartlett campaign. Just a nod to us West Wing fans or does it have another meaning for Sorkin? I’m thinking Aaron Sorkin just wanted to remind us that he was the same guy that wrote The West Wing…you know, so we won’t judge him on Studio 60. Of course I’m a fan of the show (well except for last week’s episode).

I definitely noticed that too!! But I’m a total West Wing nut, so thats unsurprising. Did you also notice Suzanne’s, “I go home when you go home”? That was possibly Margaret to Leo, but it was definitely on West Wing at some point or another.

Maybe Sorkin thinks Gage Whitney sounds very law-firmish, and doesn’t think we’ll notice. Or perhaps he just doesn’t care, since there are so many instances of repetition in his work.

Thank you so much for clearing that up for me. I knew I had heard Gage Whitney before and it was driving me crazy!

In one of the actor’s dressing rooms in an earlier episode, there was a “Santos for America” Campaign poster on the wall.

I totally noticed that too! I *didn’t* see the Santos for America poster, however. Anyone have a screenshot?

I loved The West Wing and so desperately wanted to like Studio 60. I finally gave up on it about a month ago. I knew things had gotten bad when I was so bored with it, I changed the channel to — and became more interested in — What About Brian!

Better luck next time, Mr. Sorkin.

Quick question for those who watch Studio 60. Who is Jordan’s baby’s father? I think I missed a couple of episodes right after she told Josh/Danny she is pregnant.

    Thanks!

    Bonnie,

The father is an old boyfriend of Jordan’s that works for the insurance agency that busted Danny for drugs so he couldn’t direct the movie he wanted to in the first episode. (I hope I got that right).

Does anyone know what’s happening with Studio 60 b/c NBC is premiering a new show next Monday at 10 and there were no scenes for an upcoming episode at the end of the show last night. Is it moving to another night, going on hiatus, or is NBC giving it the axe?

HCH – thanks for the update on the father. I never would have guessed that. Currently there are no Studio 60 episodes coming out. My understanding from other blogs is that there are 6 more either done or in the works but NBC has taken Studio 60 off the schedule for now. Other blogsters have guessed it’ll be back later in the season as other shows get the axe, and that Studio 60 won’t be back in the fall. But I have no idea.

The Gage Whitney reference – which made me laugh out loud – isn’t the only throwback. I was really disappointed to hear Danny/Josh recycle Toby’s classic “mini van” line from the West Wing. (Toby’s admonishing Andrea, his very pregnant ex-wife while they’re both on Air Force One. He wonders how she actually fits into an airplane seat because she’s about the size of a minivan.) I really want a Sorkin show to work on the air because his writing is so good, but I would hope that he would know that people will notice recycling lines like that.
