CALIFORNICATION: La Ronde

Hey GMMR readers! It’s Sarah back with the highlights of this past Sunday’s Californication.

This week on Californication we witnessed Marcy’s stay in rehab and her wonderful ashtray making talents. Charlie and Daisy’s continued affection for each other. Hank’s very scary discovery of a lump, and Karen’s date with the Great Ashby.

The latest episode, titled La Ronde, opens with Marcy pouring her guts out to Charlie, Hank and Karen at rehab. Yes, she made it there after all! After a quick bathroom fling with a strange man and a pile of coke Marcy has hit rock bottom. Deciding to come clean, Marcy is facing her demons and wants to clear the air with her hubby.

NBC Announces January Schedule

NBC has just announced it’s lineup for January.  We’ve got some new shows, some returning favorites, and others…well, they just are no where to be found.

Let’s get at it.

Superstars of Dance” - from the producers of “So You Think You Can Dance?” — will be airing on Mondays at 8pm, which means “Chuck” will be getting a break during the month.  But before you go all panicky, this was planned all along.  I, for one, will miss “Chuck” but knowing that this mini-hiatus means more original episodes…I can live with that.

Airing on Mondays at 9pm, in place of “Heroes” will be “Mamas Boys“, a new reality show from Ryan Seacrest.  Yes, the same Seacrest that brought the Kradashian’s and Denise Richard’s reality shows into the world. I’m not expecting much.

The Biggest Loser: Couples” and “Law & Order: SVU” will air back-to-back starting at 8pm. But don’t worry “Life”ers…you’re show is safe.  It’s just going into no-peat land a la “Chuck” and “Heroes”.

Clearly NBC didn’t get my memo on how I’d like to see less of Howie Mandel rather than more.  On Fridays, we will have a new show from Mandel called “Howie Do It” - right, because that’s necessary.

As already reported, “Friday Night Lights” will return in all its glory on January 16th. (Um, with “Dollhouse“, “FNL” and “Battelstar Galactica” all airing on Friday nights, Friday is clearly THE night for TV.”  Sweet!! Finally having no life is going to pay off!!)

Notably missing from the January schedule is “Lipstick Jungle“.  The show was canceled and then not.  But now it is. Put the Maybelline away ladies, this one can’t be saved…

Thoughts on changes at NBC?  Other than the FNL news, I can’t say this this news is all that exciting. Although with “Chuck” off my schedule for a month, it does free up my Monday night’s in January.  I just went from 4 favorites up against each other at 8pm to 3 faves.  It’s the little victories.

The full January schedule by night can be found after the jump.

When Will FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Be On NBC? I’ll Tell Ya…

NBC best drama, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, will finally be “chiming” in on the peacock network in mid-January. Can I get an AMEN!!

FNL, which has been airing its third season exclusively on DirecTV since early October, will air on Friday nights at 9pm on NBC starting January 16, 2009.

I’ve been very careful not to talk about this season of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS on GMMR as I don’t want to risk spoiling anything for those of you who don’t have DirecTV. But I can say that this season is fantastic. I’m talking solid episode after solid episode. Everything that makes FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS such a special hour of television is well represented in what will most likely be its third and final season.

So January 16th is the date. If you have not experienced FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS I can’t stress enough how much you are missing out on. Don’t cheat yourself anymore. Go out and buy the DVDs and catch up on as much as you can before the third season premieres on NBC. I’ve received countless emails from GMMR readers who have started watching FNL as a result of my badgering nagging incessant pestering encouragement, and to date not one of those people have been disappointed.

As for all of you who are already fans of the show, start spreading the word.  Now is the time to get new viewers interested.  Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can’t Lose.

CHUCK vs. The Gravitron

CHUCK

“Unleash the Casey”—OMG! T-shirt, please!

So WOW, there was a lot going on last night. And I’m just going to be totally honest with you—I accidentally fell asleep for a long time before Billy came home and woke me up around 10 and insisted on immediately watching Chuck, so I think some of that chemical in your brain that makes you not remember dreams was still working because I’m a little fuzzier on details than normal, which is why I’m counting on you guys to comment and remind me of all the awesome one-liners, because I KNOW I laughed out loud.

Alright, let’s start with this Jill business. I was glad that we didn’t have to wait around the whole episode for Chuck to figure out that Jill was Fulcrum, but we obviously couldn’t be rid of her that quickly, either. And I was so mad at Chuck, again, for all the stupid things he did in regard to Jill, like FREEING HER FROM HER RESTRAINTS. Oh, Chuck. I did like the very nice touch that she was devious enough to shoot Leader to trick Chuck. And by the way, I totally thought that Jesse “The Body” Ventura would have made an awesome Leader, but Billy pointed out that this guy was basically the poor man’s Jesse Ventura. Although maybe not anymore—Jesse has really let himself go.

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER: The Naked Man

Neil Patrick Harris, The Naked Man

Hey everyone, it is Jen back again for another HIMYM episode commentary. Next week (12/1) is a repeat of last season’s “The Bracket”. But don’t stray too far because there will be a new episode the following week (12/8) and we’ll be keeping you posted on any big news.

Now, on to the show.

Ted is  trying to figure out just when he’ll be over Stella. Everyone has a different time line for getting over an ex. Marshall’s theory is by far the one I’ve heard the most - It takes half the time you were with a person to get over them.  [GMMR: I was kind of hoping Barney would haul out the whiteboard from some elaborate equations.]

As Future Ted thinks back on his post-Stella era, he can’t help but recall another certain memory from back in the day. Future Ted reminisces on some seriously bizarre events he encountered just by walking into his apartment -  Lily and some acrobats; Barney doing an underwater trick for over 12 minutes; Robin holding a gun to some robbers, and even something in our future, the goat (May 2009)! Bays and Thomas haven’t forgotten that carrot they keep dangling in front of us devoted fans. Damn them and their goat!

DEXTER Recap: “About Last Night”

DExter

Oh, has it been an interesting week. I come to you from the final days of a sinus infection, replete with fever and headaches. Also, “Pushing Daisies” and “Dirty Sexy Money” got the axe, breaking my TV heart. But, on the brighter side, my friend Mike found the joy of “The West Wing” for the first time (after badgering from yours truly) and I finally got to see the return of Jack Bauer in “24: Redemption.” Not a wash, certainly, but the week got better as it went on.

Now, on to the review…

Only three episodes left in this season and things are getting intense! We were left at the end of last week with the image of Prado entering Ellen Wolf’s home office with a lecherous look in his eyes…and a frightened look in hers.
