It’s going to be musical chairs once more over at The View as co-host Rosie O’Donnell has decided not to return to the show for a second season. Does Barbara Walters have cooties or something? First Meredith, then Star, now Rosie?

I can’t say I’m shocked. Rosie did what she came to do - get back on TV and cause a little raucous. She’s most likely got a another gig lined up - one where she can really be in control. I don’t really watch The View all that much, but Rosie certainly brought some freshness to the show. But I always felt like the minute she showed up it became “The View with Rosie O’Donnell…and whoever else she decides to let talk today.” It became all about Rosie. So much so at times she even had me feeling sorry for the annoying Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

So what does Miss Rosie have to say about all this? “My needs for the future just didn’t dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me,” O’Donnell said in a statement Wednesday. “This has been an amazing experience,” she said, “and one I wouldn’t have traded for the world.”

As for host Barbara Walters she says, “I induced Rosie to come back to television on ‘The View’ even for just one year. She has given the program new vigor, new excitement and wonderful hours of television. I can only be grateful to her for this year.”

The president of daytime programming for the Disney-ABC Television Group, Brian Frons, told ABCNEWS.com, ‘Going in we knew we would have an amazing year with her, and that anything beyond that would be gravy. But we were willing to take the chance because we understood what a coup it was to entice Ro back to daytime television. So here we are a year later, and while we’ve tried to come to terms on a deal that would extend her co-hosting duties on The View, we find ourselves unable to agree on some key elements.’ ”
