Save FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS – Let NBC Hear YOU!!!

February 8, 2008 by

SAVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Tonight is the last new episode of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS, and although it’s painful for me to even type this, tonight may be the last episode of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS ever. It’s really hard for me to comprehend such a thing because I’m not ready to say goodbye to the residents of Dillon, Texas and NBC shouldn’t be either.

In an era where TV is dominated by reality shows and game shows, it pains me to think that a superb scripted drama like FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS could be so easily dismissed by NBC. But it all comes down to money, and money comes from ratings. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS has never been a break out hit for NBC, and I personally think that has very little to do with the show and everything to do with missteps on the part of the network. The initial marketing campaign of the show was weak, and all changes to its placement on the NBC schedule did nothing to help. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS never had its moment in the sun because NBC didn’t allow it.

Going back to the ratings game, listen I get it. I understand that TV is about money and if FNL isn’t helping then maybe something else should be given a shot. Unfortunately, with the moves that NBC has made as of late, one would bet that the replacement show will be no where near the quality of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS.

We as watchers of TV need to stand up for our shows and make sure our voices are heard before there are no more quality shows left for us to fight for.

SAVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS PROJECT
So now it’s time to make sure NBC hears YOU. There are going to be a number of SAVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS campaigns floating around, and I plan on supporting every one of them (please participates in BestWeekEver and WWK’s efforts). There is power in numbers. For GiveMeMyRemote.com readers, I’m asking you to participate in a different way. To make sure NBC hears our voices, I’m asking that each of you make a brief video plea to NBC telling them what the show means to you and why they should keep FNL. I’ve already arranged with people behind the scenes to make sure that the videos make their way to the right people at the network.

If you plan on making a SAVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS video, please make sure there is NO copyrighted material in your video. NO copyrighted music. NO videos or pictures from the show. Just YOU telling NBC why the show should be saved. All videos should be no more than one minute long (I know that doesn’t seem too long, but it’s enough to get and keep their attention).

Please title the video: SAVE FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS and upload it to youtube.com. Once your video is uploaded, please send me an email at info(at)givememyremote(dot)com and I will be sure to post it on GMMR and add it to my list of all videos submitted.

Writing to the networks…
While I encourage each of you to make a video, I also ask that you take a few minutes out of your day (like right about now just as soon as you are finished reading this) and write a heartfelt letter to NBC asking them to save FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. Early this morning I wrote a letter to Jeff Zucker and Ben Silverman pleading on behalf of the show. Now it’s your turn.

I don’t have the equipment or technical know-how to make a video, but I am writing and mailing two letters right now. I will cry if this show is canceled, for real.

I think I will be inconsolable if tonight ends up being the last FNL episode. I also don’t have a video camera, but I definitely will write enthusiastic letters to NBC in support of the show. FNL is one of my favorite shows that I never miss – I cannot imagine never knowing what will happen to all of these wonderful characters. Let’s hope NBC wises up soon and gives it the support it so greatly deserves.

I don’t want to cry over losing this show. It’s so great to not have. I can’t make a video either, but the letter is on its way! I’ve also spread messages in my LJ and MySpace! We all can do it! 🙂

I don’t watch the show, but I will certainly write a letter. Cause I ave friends who do, and it seems like an amazing show.

  6. Arthur F on February 8th, 2008 7:42 pm

Ditto for me. No video. Letters sent. I promised never to watch another show on NBC if they cancel.

  7. Billiam on February 9th, 2008 3:43 pm

In my letter, do you think I could also include a plea to air a Scrubs finale, or should I keep the letter focused and brief?

GMMR – What did you think about this episode? I was curious to hear your take on it. I signed the petition to keep the show.

I cannot lose this show! I cannot believe people are not standing up for this fantastic small screen masterpiece. It is the single best show on TV. Every major critic will agree with me on this one because sine the Pilot aired all I have heard is great things about this show. Everyone, lets keep this show breathing! Anyone who hasn’t seen this show must try and get a glimpse! It is great stuff!

I have been watching Friday Night Lights since it started! I have to say that I am a pretty big fan. I tried to get my husband to watch it with me when it first started. He wasn’t to interested, (I watch alot of tv and he just thought it was just another one of my chick shows). Well he caught one of the first new shows in the second season and he loves it. I would hate to lose this show, it is one of the only things that my husband and I enjoy watching together on tv. I DVR it every week and I wait to watch it with him. So please everyone go out and look for all the sites you can and sign every petition that you can find to help save this show. -Thanks, Meagen P

Friday Night Lights is the ONLY show that I look forward to. Please DON’T CANCEL. I would be so disappointed. (Maybe try a new day?)

  13. Dori on February 14th, 2008 3:56 pm

I noticed the phone number to NBC is posted. Should we call as well as write to the network? Has anyone called the number? What did you say?

  14. mia on February 15th, 2008 2:09 pm

I LOVE THIS SHOW! IT’S ONE OF THE VERY FEW SHOWS ON TV. WHAT IS NBC THINKING? THEY HOULDN’T EVEN CONSIDER TAKING IT OFF THE AIR.

  15. Tanya on February 19th, 2008 5:02 am

so I have been a huge fan of FNL since the first episode. There is no show like it. THEY HAVE TO KEEP THIS SHOW ON!!! I only watch NBC for that show alone because everything else is crap. I know this studio moguls could care less about people like us but I still feel like I need to say my piece. This show is incredible in so many ways!! The acting is amazing, I have never seen anything like it. Everyone I know who watches ONE episode, falls in love. NBC has no show that appeals to the younger audience, and why the Friday time slot? Just because there is Friday in the title, doesn’t mean it needs to be on that night. WE NEED TO SAVE THIS SHOW!!! or so help me, I will never watch NBC again. DONT IGNORE THE PEOPLE!!!

Thank goodness I have a brain that lead me to this sight. Last week when Dion (puke) was on rather than FNL (which I practically live for) I felt sssssssssooooooooooooodisappointed! Now tonight, Feb 22 it’s not on again and I thought ‘oh-m’god,
where is my show???????? What is going on???? Is NBC gone stupid! This is the first show that has given me hope in TV. I am so sick of the host of ‘the new game shows’ Geez louise…….come on NBC this is the best show in all 1,000channels. Comcast is not even worth the $ I pay to have a variety of shit to choose from. There was another show as well which all the sudden was gone–I can’t remember its name as I sonly saw it two times—it was a 40ish male who set out to solve various scenarios; he was always referring to a zen-type thought process and his dead Father would often show up to help him process his actions and thoughts. Anyway it was great–came on at 10:ooPacific time on Wednesdays I think. It could have been CBS but I am not sure—could have been NBC. Please bring it back–if you don’t my f—-TV is going out the window—I live in a penthouse in Seattle.
    Reasons I love the show:
    1. the way it is filmed–camera angles–the director rocks
    2. it’s a ‘real’ show bringing very relevant subject matter
    3. a family that solves challenges in a diplomatic manner and not yelling and bs.
    4. the time is perfect–Friday night
    5. the cast is perfect–excellent acting; extremely believable–
    real, exciting drama, beautiful people.
    6. brings back hope for revival of the wholesome small time town
    7. shows men that have integrity and make great decisions
which are a great thing for young people coming up to see on TV—this is probably the best reason to keep this show alive.
    8. I really like the way they address Christianity in a tasteful real small time way –and a gorgeous gal to ‘sell it’ so to speak
    9. great family values that are the same and reoccur throughout all time
    I LOVE THIS SHOW
    PLEASE DON’T LET IT DIE
Friday Night Lights is the best show to come on board in years and years and years. If NBC cancels FNL then the only reason to watch NBC is for Jay Leno and when he retires the show will die esp if Conad trys to replace him. Conad is cool but he already has a show.

Please keep friday night lights on. We just started watching the 2nd season and loved it so much we bought the first season on DVD and have been watching it. This show is real and relates to real issues.

Friday Night Lights is THE BEST SHOW on television. And I DON’T EVEN LIKE FOOTBALL; nor, do my boyfriend and I agree on shows, but WE AGREE ON THIS ONE. Give it a chance and you won’t be disappointed. It’s not over-dramatic. It’s artistically filmed. It portrays a range of socioeconomic classes. Local video stores have season one and two available for rent. I saw Tim Riggins on the cover of Men’s Health and it made me excited for the possibilites, and yet, discouraged for what may be to come. KEEP FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS going. It’s the BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION.

I was just looking for this info for some time. After six hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your site. I wonder what is the lack of Google strategy that do not rank this type of informative sites in top of the list. Generally the top web sites are full of garbage.
