Couch Madness Final Round: 'Exodus'

In honor of the NCAA tournament season, Give Me My Remote is bringing back our TV-centric bracket, pitting similarly titled episodes against each other: Couch Madness! (Credit for the excellent name goes to fellow reporter Chris Hayner.)

The seeding is simple: rather than quality of the hour, we’re going by air date (with the oldest episode getting the #1 slot and the newest getting #8). With Peak TV, this will not include every single show that has used this title; rather, we picked a selection from what was available.

We’re now up to the final round, with voting running from Monday, March 27 through Friday, March 31.

Next up? “Exodus.” Keep reading for the bracket, episode descriptions (from IMDB), and the poll. (For the other episodes competing, check out all the brackets here!) Read more

FRIENDS’ 25th Anniversary: Looking Back at the Quasi-ER Crossover

Fall of 1994 was a big one for NBC, as the network debuted two shows that would go on to be massive hits: FRIENDS and ER.

But when the shows were in their freshman years, they had a memorable (but odd) crossover: ER’s George Clooney and Noah Wyle guest starred in the second part of FRIENDS’ February ’95 two-parter as doctors…but not their County General characters.

Of course, their characters got entangled with Monica and Rachel (who were attempting to date the doctors while also participating in insurance fraud, which may not have been their best idea), and quickly bolted when things got weird. But for an episode, FRIENDS and ER overlapped.

From acclaimed producers Ava DuVernay and Greg Berlanti, THE RED LINE follows the lives of three vastly different Chicago families whose stories of loss and tragedy intersect in the wake of the mistaken shooting of an African American doctor by a white cop. When Noah Wyle signed on to do the new CBS limited series THE RED LINE, the series took him back to a familiar location: Chicago, where he sporadically shot ER. (ER’s series production was split between the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank—which housed the hospital set—and select shots in Chicago.)

“That was really interesting to be back in Chicago 25 years later,” Wyle told reporters after the Television Critics Association panel for THE RED LINE. “The city has changed a lot. I’ve changed a lot.”
