GALAVANT – Pilot – Screenwriter/executive producer Dan Fogelman (“Crazy, Stupid, Love,” “Tangled,” “Cars”) teams up with Broadway and Hollywood award-winning musical team-composer Alan Menken (“The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast”) and lyricist Glenn Slater (“The Little Mermaid,” “Tangled”)-for a musical comedy fairytale of epic proportions. Once upon a time, the dashing hero, Galavant (Joshua Sasse), lost the love of his life, Madalena (Mallory Jansen), to the evil King Richard (Timothy Omundson). ABC has picked up many of its remaining shows. Among those that scored the nod for next season: CASTLE, NASHVILLE, MODERN FAMILY, GALAVANT, AGENTS OF SHIELD, AGENT CARTER, AMERICAN CRIME, SECRETS AND LIES, BLACK-ISH, FRESH OFF THE BOAT, HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER, GREY’S ANATOMY, SCANDAL, THE GOLDBERGS, and THE MIDDLE.
As of now, only LAST MAN STANDING remains up in the air.

ABC’s split season schedule has been laid out a little bit more: while ONCE UPON A TIME and AGENTS OF SHIELD are on hiatus, GALAVANT will launch on Sunday, January 4th (with back-to-back episodes), while AGENT CARTER premieres Tuesday, January 6th.

One of the best parts about the Upfronts is we traditionally get our first looks at the new shows that will be populating our television screens during the upcoming season.
Of course, the trailers aren’t always an indication of how the show will turn out — great shows have had terrible trailers, and terrible shows have looked significantly better thanks to a great trailer. But for now, there are a few trailers I’m obsessing over for the new television season.

ABC is no stranger to having fairytale shows on its network, but the new show GALAVANT takes things one step further: it’s also a comedy-musical. (It’ll also, appropriately enough, be aired during ONCE UPON A TIME’s midseason break.)
