Top 13 TV Shows of 2013

As I said in my top television episodes post, there is a lot of great television on right now. And what hit me as I was compiling this list was that an incredible amount of newbies came out of the gate amazing — in fact, the differences in my list from last year to this year is a bit unreal.

Before we get to the list, the normal disclaimer: I may watch an unholy amount of television (it was probably close to 100 series this year), but I don’t watch everything. Which means, I’m still behind on JUSTIFIED, THE GOOD WIFE, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, and I still haven’t brought myself to watch GAME OF THRONES. It’s possible if they were in the mix, my list would look different. But for now, until we can invent a time-pausing machine, we’ll work with what I can watch.

These are my top shows of 2013…

Okay, I’ve had my say, now it’s your turn: is there a show you think should be on the list? Is there a show you think is too high/low ranked?

GO ON: Scott Silveri on the End of Season Arc, the Show’s Evolution, Moving to Thursday Nights, Guest Stars, and More

As season 1 of GO ON winds down, the Matthew Perry-led comedy has had quite the ride: the series launched in August during NBC’s Olympic coverage and spent the first part of the season behind the comfortable lead-in of THE VOICE. The comedy struggled a bit in the ratings during the few months THE VOICE was on a hiatus, but starting tonight, NBC will try out the series in its Thursday night comedy block after THE OFFICE.

While GO ON may have had some highs and lows with the ratings in the first season, personally, I’ve found it to be arguably the strongest new comedy series of any network this year. So with the end of the season fast approaching, I spoke with GO ON creator Scott Silveri to get his take on when the show started clicking for them, the rating struggles, the show’s new night, what fans can expect from the end of the season…and from a potential season 2.

Take a look!

GO ON: Scott Silveri Talks Reuniting Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry On-Screen

March 26, 2013 by
Filed under #1 featured, Go On

For GO ON creator Scott Silveri, one of his former TV gigs — as an executive producer of a little sitcom called FRIENDS — is still a constant presence in his life, thanks to Matthew Perry being a part of both shows. But in tonight’s brand new episode, the duo staged a larger reunion than normal when Courteney Cox (who played the Monica to Perry’s Chandler) dropped by to play a potential love interest to Ryan (Perry).

“It’s really fun to see the two of them together,” Silveri noted of the duo’s first on-screen appearance in nearly nine years. “I really enjoyed being on stage with the two of them. It felt like old times. I feel like it’ll come through. I think the audience will appreciate it. If not, hey, I had a good time!”

GO ON Stages a FRIENDS Reunion: Courteney Cox to Guest Star

Comments Off on GO ON Stages a FRIENDS Reunion: Courteney Cox to Guest Star

The FRIENDS cast hasn’t been shy about hosting their own mini-reunions on the shows they’ve starred on since the NBC comedy went off the air in 2004, but this particular reunion has me incredibly excited: an NBC rep confirms that Courteney Cox will guest star on an upcoming episode of her former TV hubby Matthew Perry’s new series, GO ON. (And if you’re not watching GO ON, why not? It’s a lovely show you should be checking out.)

According to The Hollywood Reporter (who was first to break the casting), the duo will once again be potentially romantically matched when one of Ryan’s (Perry) group mates tries to set him up with Cox’s character. The episode is set to air in April.

Um, so I’m excited about this…how about you?

GO ON Stages a THE WEST WING/STUDIO 60 Reunion: Bradley Whitford to Guest Star

December 19, 2012 by

Another familiar face is coming to GO ON, but this time, it’s not a sports star: Matthew Perry’s (Ryan) former STUDIO 60/THE WEST WING costar Bradley Whitford is guest starring on an upcoming episode of the NBC comedy, a show rep confirmed.

Perry broke the news on Twitter, saying, “Working with Bradley Whitford again is so much fun. I mean, I wish we weren’t in a hot tub together, but you can’t ask for everything. #GoOn.” (Please, oh please, let this actually be true.)

No further character/episode details were available at this time, but if I find out more, I’ll be sure to update you.

Are you happy to see Perry and Whitford acting together again?
